I enjoy this show and how creative and cool it can be but at the same time those fanfics(spike x rarity to be percise) are also creative and yet very fascinating. so which one is better...mlp fim tv show or mlp fim fanfics?

For me its easily the Tv show, sure there are some plot loop holes here and there but, a lot of the over all plots in that show are really well done. And I think sometimes we overly judge the plots in the show, pointing out every thing thats wrong with and forgetting the fact that its a children's show and the plots are not suppose to be supper complex.

This is not to say that fanfics are bad or boring though, there are many extremely well done fics, there even some out there that I wouldn't mind seeing in the show but;  I honestly think only a very small amount have high enough quality to make the show.

I would have to say the tv show. Its what got me into the fandom in the first place and is very well made for a kids show. It's not that I don't love fan-fics because they are very well made too and I am in the process of writing two of them right now. But I'm sticking with the show.

Well mainly for me, it just depends on what sort of the fan-fiction, consisting of genre, and what it is like for me to read it, and not bore myself and almost fall asleep. Though I do prefer both, and will sometimes take the show over a fan-fic.

The problem is, that the show is the "original stuff", but  there is not much to do until new episodes air.

I enjoy well written fanfics of all kind, but I'd never say they are necessarily better than the show. But what they can do is something the show can't. They can tell all the stories that will never be part of the canon, but many people are interested in. They make it possible for us to explore ideas, fanons and aspects of the show that are sometimes even "stronger", more meaningful than some of the things happening in the show.

They are part of our imagination, a possibility to identify ourselves even more with the contents of the show and to project our own emotions, ideas and interpretations. They are not better, but help us to identify better wiith the show.

That's at least how I explain it to myself.

I know not many people agree with me on this particular perspective but I believe that no matter how good a show is it will always be made better by it's fanworks. I don't read fanfics but I love comics, fanart and music for the show and fully believe they enhance my experience with the show itself. Many people believe that a show should be able to stand on it's own two feet and nothing else but I believe that it takes a great fanbase and great fanworks to make a show REALLY good. (Even if it doesn't make much sense.)

I've written two short fanfics and hope to write more time allowing, but the show blows fanfics away. The only thing fanfics have going for them is that they can and do explore topics the show would never touch. Personally I've tried to keep my fanfics as cannon as possible. I've never read comics and rarely look at fan art or listen to fan music. My main connection with the fanon is this forum.

I like the show first and foremost

But I like the fan fictions as well but only to the point of the talent of the writer.

If its good. I'll read it.

The TV show about 90 percent of the time will always be better than most fanfics, most of the time you end up with dumb plot lines and the writers dreams rather than the actual source content.

It's a bit unfair because fan-fics can be written about virtually anything while the show is very limited to what it can show. Fan fics are especially made to satisfy ourselves with what it may be about (Shipping, revenge, etc.)

That said I do enjoy both of them greatly but the show is easier to see without getting bored. I don't really like reading super long novel length fan fictions (even if they are the most popular) I enjoy a nice one or two shot story that's within a reasonable 5K words or so. Otherwise it would take forever to finish reading one story.

There are some incredible fan fics, and the best fan fic would be better than the average episode, but on average the show beats the fan fics by a lot.
