ooc (OOC) Defenders of Equestria

Gabriel Smith

Recommended Posts

Alright, Cloak and Dagger application incoming.

Name: Cloak and Dagger, seeking thrills mostly, blue and grey respectively.

Age: See database.

Appearance: See database.

Affiliation: Inquisitor.

Skills: Disguise- fairly self explanatory. Both of them, especially Dagger, are exceptionally skilled at disguising themselves. Dagger even claims to have disguised himself successfully as a minotaur, although whether or not this is true is anyone's guess.

Charm- Having been grifters for years before joining the Inquisition, both of them are quite charismatic, and are particularly good liars. Cloak is also known to use her good looks to her advantage.

Equipment: A variety of clothes, wigs, and other things for disguising themselves. They carry both daggers and throwing knives, but only use them as a last resort.

Personality: See database.

Backstory: Very little is known about Cloak and Dagger, and they prefer to keep it that way. Formerly grifters, Cloak and Dagger were approached by a mysterious stallion claiming to work for an organization known as the Inquisition, who offered them a chance to use their talents for the betterment of Equestria. Whether it was for the good of the people, or simply out of curiosity, the two eventually accepted.

Note: This character was made with the assumption that we're still early in Equestria's history and the dissolution of the inquisition happened not too long ago. I based this assumption on the fact that the inquisition is still distrusted by the general population - if we're in "modern" times and it's been over a thousand years since the inquisition disappeared and it's managed to stay hidden for all this time, I figured it's existence would be at least as obscure a bit of knowledge as the existence of Nightmare Moon. If I assumed wrong, I'll revise the character accordingly.

Name: Power Trip

Age: 36

Appearance: See database.

Affiliation: Inquisitor.

Skills: Magic - Power Trip found his special talent early in life. Growing up in a bustling city, he found plenty of opportunities for getting into trouble, and more often than not the only way out of that trouble was to fight. Constantly picked on by older and larger children, Power Trip developed his powers out of desperate necessity rather than academic curiosity - the result was an overwhelming tendency toward wildly destructive blasts of energy, especially lightning. While lacking in a broader education, no one can claim that inquisitor Trip is short on practical experience.

Investigation & Interrogation - Needless to say, an inquisitor who cannot perform the basic duties of the inquisition is no inquisitor at all. Power Trip has been in the game for a while, and knows that a carefully worded threat can yield much more information than hot coals or buckets full of hungry rats (although the latter are obviously much more fun).

Survival & Medicine - An inquisitor needs to be self-sufficient in these hard times, and so Power Trip has undergone basic survival and first aid training. While nowhere near a royal scholar of medicine or a veteran ranger, he knows how to apply bandages and not to eat the red mushrooms with white little dots on them.

Carpentry - Everyone needs a cover, and inquisitors tend to need several. Power Trip's appearance doesn't lend itself well to blending into crowds, and while the inquisition was still allowed to operate openly he never much bothered with that kind of subtelty. When the radical trials began, rather than turning himself in for judgement Power Trip decided to lay low and apprenticed himself to a carpenter for a short while. He is passable at his job at best, but it is a plausible excuse for carrying around nails and a large hammer.

Equipment: Hardened leather barding, carpenter's tools, basic survival gear, various lengths of rope and cloth, nine-tailed whip, and of course a nifty hat.

Personality: See database.

Backstory: See database.

Ladies and Gentlemen, due to failing Mental Health I've had to take a few days off. This has pushed it back further than planned.

Therefore, I will be writing up the initial post for the IC sometime tomorrow morning. The finalised list of characters and people who have been accepted have been printed on the front page for all to see.

I AM NOT TAKING ANY MORE APPLICATIONS AFTER TONIGHT.

If I have not added your OC to the main page, you have been declined.

Incidentally, if Frosty has made those last minute tweaks like I asked, I will add him to the front page as well.

I'd just like to point out that you've only accepted three characters, two of whom are knights. Do you really think that's enough? Oh, and I have to ask for a reason why Cloak and Dagger were declined, because otherwise I'm just going to continue wondering about it all night until I go insane.

Simple - the appearance and acceptance of Power Trip. Thus, having Cloak & Dagger around sort of became unnecessary. Unless of course, you are inclined to disagree?

That, and I also wanted to keep the RP small to begin with. I'm still holding out that Frosty might finish fine tuning Jaeger by then...if not, then I'll probably be using Cloak & Dagger in his place.

Three of four to begin with should be enough. Any more and I'm going to have my hands full chasing around everyone.

Wow. Now that's just insulting. It also exposes a variety of fallacies in your thinking in regards to your entire original plan for this roleplay, but I don't have the patience or the inclination to explain them.

I'm not so sure I'm going to do this after all. I've recently been reminded of some of my old plans, and I think it's about time I act on them, leaving me with little time to dedicate to this.

Oh, and you should have made it a bit more clear from the beginning how few characters you intended to accept. You could have saved quite a few people the trouble of applying.

I would have preferred it if these tweaks had been made in a Bio like everyone else wrote up...but I suppose this will do.

Hrm, two players is not quite enough for my tastes. I'll wait and see, but if this doesn't pick up I'm out.

I'm just having a lot of setbacks right now. A lot of them. I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth it.

  1. You are (were) already a member and thus had a character.
  2. We had a limited number of slots on the main page. It's why neither list ever moved past 4 (or if it did, that was the result of a formatting error).
  3. I was under the impression the reason Cloak and Dagger were suggested was to round out the character list. Taking Power Trip over the pair seemed like the better option as it fulfils the exact same job and adds another person to the roster and was a better use of the slot. There did not appear anything unreasonable about it.

1. Irrelevant. I never said anything to the contrary, anyway.

2. I never said you didn't specify, but you should have been more clear about it. Not that it really matters.

3. Actually, I suggested them because I was under the impression that you might allow more characters if it was more balanced instead of being pretty much all knights. I believe I said as much before I submitted them.

None of this has anything to do with the aforementioned flaws in your thinking. Indeed, I'm now under the impression that you wouldn't understand what I meant even if I were to explain these flaws to you. So I won't bother. Not that I mean to insult your intelligence, but simply in terms of perspective, I don't think you'd see it.

After careful consideration, I have two other things I'd like to say. First of all, I think since no one has joined the monks anyway, you'd be best off making this solely about the knights with the inquisition as a more specialized and less combat oriented offshoot. Second of all, I've decided that I no longer have any interest in this if it's going to be such a small number of characters. So I guess I'm done here. Sorry for wasting your time.

After talking with some associates of mine, I have decided to suspend this roleplay, pending a revitalisation of the idea. I apologise for everyone's time wasted, but this RP in it's current state and form will not be going forwards.
