Coinciding with my "Most Hated Victim(s)" thread, which villain(s)/killer(s)/etc. from any media source do you find yourself sympathizing with the most?

I'll start:

1. Darth Vader In "Star Wars"

Reason(s): Despite his constant God Mode Sue heroism, he just could not rid himself of nightmares of Padme potentially dying in childbirth (he wasn't unjustified, though, given his similar situation with his mother in the past), and so, due to stress, sleep deprivation, and seeming lack of support from the Jedi Council, he joined Palpatine/Sidious in desperation to discover Plagueis's "immortality" secrets for Padme, being forced to commit mass murder throughout the galaxy as a result. Eventually, he finally snapped from the weight of it all, Force-Choking Padme in a brief fit of rage, which only ended up sabotaging her health during her childbirth shortly thereafter, effectively fulfilling the very prophecy he'd wanted to prevent. This, combined with his own later injuries and subsequent painful surgical repairs, completely broke him, turning him into a Knight Templar whose only remaining purpose was to serve the Empire. However, he eventually encountered Force-sensitives such as Starkiller and Luke, the latter being his long-lost son, which led the Sith Lord to both form ambitions of revenge against his master who had tricked him into the dark side and question his own conscience. This eventually culminated in an all-out betrayal against Palpatine/Sidious in order to protect Luke, which killed the Emperor, but at the cost of Anakin's/Vader's own life. However, he at least got to have a few heartfelt words with his son before finally passing away, ultimately reuniting with his old friends and loved ones in the afterlife, and finally finding closure.

Benny in RENT isn't really a bad guy. I mean, he's not the villain in any true sense, but he is the most disliked main character as far as his actions.

The farmers in Fantastic Mr. Fox have every justification for their actions, even if they're crazy.

It's hard for me to contribute, most of the stuff I watch doesn't have a truly defined villain. If they do, it's usualy exaggerated.

Acro and Mimi Miney, both from Justice for all come to mind. And Mithos from Tales of Symphonia, who only wanted equality for the half elves

This is a spoiler for Ace Attorney: Justice For All, so don't open it if you don't wanna know one of the murderers. There isn't a single person I've seen play this game who didn't sympathise with this guy.

Ken Dingling, from Ace Attorney: Justice For All. I just feel so bad for the guy. Instead of killing Regina Berry, the girl he hates more than anyone in the world, he accidentally kills Russell Berry, the man who he owes so much gratitude for taking him in after he was abandoned by his parents.

The full story: Ken and his brother Sean were abandoned by their parents at a young age. Russell Berry, the owner of a circus, was the only one willing to take them in. They both were endlessly grateful for it and decided to become an acrobat duo in the circus performances, learning to become skilful and supreme in order to repay Russell and allow him to put a talented act in his line-up.

Now, Russell's daughter, Regina Berry, was the circus animal tamer. Sean grew to have a huge crush on her and they would always play pranks on each other. One time, Regina decided to prank Sean by dousing his scarf in pepper so that he would sneeze. What wasn't anticipated is that Sean would not notice the pepper and proceed to try and impress Regina by doing a trick with the circus lion - putting his head in the lion's jaws. The lion was specifically trained not to bite down in this instance, but Sean was still wearing the peppered scarf. The lion sneezed, and snapped his jaws shut - on Sean's neck. Ken jumped in and attempted to save him, but it was too late - Sean was completely paralysed and with severe, lifelong brain damage, and Ken was paralysed from the waist down attempting to fight off the lion. The lion was shot by Russell the next day, who covered up the incident.

After this, Ken, being extremely close to Sean, and with his career ruined, was in despair. He couldn't believe he and his closest friend and brother had to leave the circus. As more time went on without his brother there, Ken began to grow an ever-growing hatred for Regina - if it weren't for her, there would be no peppered scarf, no paralysis for him, no disappointment for Russell and, above all, no life-changing injury for Sean. The worst part is that Regina wasn't at all sorry - she believed that Sean had become one with the stars or some strange yet happy after-death story that she was told.

He was so enraged and saddened that, in his silent hysteria, he plotted to murder Regina. He grabbed an enormous bronze bust, positioned a box underneath his apartment window and left a note for Regina asking her to come and check out the box - planning to drop the bust on her and kill her.

What Ken didn't foresee was Russell going to inspect the box in place of Regina, for fear of his daughter's safety. Ken, still paralysed and unable to look out of his window, heard the scraping of feet and waited for the moment to drop the bust out from his window. It hit Russell square on the head and killed him.

Imagine that. This guy Russell took in Ken and Sean and turned their life around, giving them purpose, and asking for nothing in return. The kindest soul in their lives and the reason they survived abandonment. And Ken murdered him by accident... I just feel so sorry for Ken. I mean... fuck. Especially when you reveal him at the end... he isn't like any other witness on the stand. He was deeply remorseful.

Godot / Diego Armando in "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials And Tribulations" was definitely in the wrong when he chose to NOT get rid of Morgan Fey's letter after reading it, but he ultimately saved Maya Fey's life anyway, revenge against Dahlia Hawthorne or not; plus, imagine what was going through Dahlia's mind when, right before she could attack Maya, this toaster-faced vigilante came out of nowhere and attacked HER!
