gaming Sims 3 Launcher issue

So... long story short, the past few days I've been playing the Sims 3 and it's been perfectly fine. Today, however, I open up the game launcher but it "can't connect" to the web page that comes up from the website. I ignored it at first, not thinking, but after about ten times it's NOT loading. Not only that, but my game won't even work. When I click to play the game it freezes and stops responding.

 

So, do I need The Sims website to work in order to play my game? (God, I hope not)

 

Also, is the Sims website down? I've tried numerous times to go on it but it has loading errors and time-outs.

 

I'm wondering if the Sims is down for maintenance... I don't know. I'm just really frustrated.

Don't worry, EA's service for TS3 is crap.
