I've got a pretty decent collection of games. Most of which I never really play anyway.

 

 I just lose interest so quickly in a lot of them. It's kinda upsetting.

I honestly will go back and play old games just for the nostalgia. I had just about everything for my PS2, and I still go back and play it from time to time. Things like Guitar Hero, the old GTA's, even sports games, I'll go back and play the old ones.

I suppose my problem is that nowadays a lot of games just feel too...safe. Like they're trying their hardest to just be...normal.

I'll agree with you on that one, but I think it's more or less they're staying safe for the point of sales. By sticking to tried and true methods, they're safer when it comes to sales as opposed to trying new things. Problem with that is, there comes a point where monotony comes into play. Franchises like Call Of Duty, all the sports games; they all become the same after a while. A few companies have realized that taking a chance really pays off. Look at Bungie, and how much of a hit Destiny is. It probably isn't a bad idea if companies took more chances when it came to making games.

 I also think it boils down to a lack of personality and passion. A lot of games are made by large teams who all have different visions and all want something different. This leads to the games just feeling sort of spliced together, and not really complete.

 

I think games work a lot better when they're either made by a small team, a single person, or unified under a single person's vision.

The only "big" company that I really think of that puts out good games, is Rockstar. Their work is, and has always been, phenomenal. That's why I wait 5 years for a new GTA. Manhunt was a great series, RDR was a great game, Midnight Club was OK, and Max Payne was good. GTA is always redefining itself, always reinventing itself.

I can't think of any big name companies I'm particularly fond of. I tend to gravitate towards really strange stuff.

 

 My favorite game designer though is Edmund Mcmillen. Always put's out the weirdest things, has tons of interesting new ideas, and knows how to breathe life into old ones. That and he always manages to work with programmers, musicians and others who know what they're doing.

Yeah. New Vegas was really great.

 

 3's actually my least favorite though. I don't think it's really as good as 1,2, or Vegas. It's not that it's bad, it's just that it's not really as "Fallout-y" as the others.
