You have to get the accent. Don't believe the media, listen to a legitimate Australian rather than a fake. Our accent is kind of a mix between American accent and British. We pronounce words ending in ance for example Dance like Americans. While words like Can't and fast we pronounce like British.

Now that's confusing, because both of those words pronounce the letter "a" the same way in American.  How do you know which to pronounce which way?

I guess you just have to remember that Words that end in ance you pronounce the way you normally do and all the other words you pronounce lie British people.
