[Suggestion] Script to allow a "printable" version of threads

So I (and this is probably just me) think that it would be a good idea to have the ability to change the formatting of forum threads into a format that is 'printable'. I don't mean that I am going to print off the threads that I join, but I would like to be able to have threads that I want to keep put into a format where I can just ctrl-a, ctrl-v in a document to save a copy for myself as either a more easy to read version, or to keep a permanent record of what happened.

Just a script or something to take the name of the account and the actual post itself (not signatures or rank or any of that other garbage), and put it in a very simple document where there's no links to more pages. Just the thread, all the text seperated by thin lines.

If you still don't understand what I'm saying tell me because I'll post a picture as an example of what I'm talking about.

There is already a feature in existence that allows you to print threads. When you go to reply to a topic, underneath that box is a set of buttons for twitter, reddit, and so on. One of these buttons is a printer icon - clicking it brings you to a page that is a printable version of the thread.

A print button does not appear for every thread. This is a known issue among the staff that will be looked into at some point in the future.

Wait what? You made me spit my coffee.

Damn I didn't even notice that.

Still... that printable version still loads advertisements plus a whole 'lotta junk and links and the formatting gets all parasprited when you copy paste into documents.

Not sure if that script is customizable on your end.

You could probably avoid printing extraneous aspects of the page by highlighting only the actual thread content on the printable thread page, and then choosing to print the selection instead of the entire page.

I don't know whether or not this feature is customizable at all, but I agree that the printable version should not contain advertisements, or any content other than the thread that you want to print out.

It shouldn't be that hard to write one custom. Then again I have hardly dipped into web development programming. I'll do something fancy in open office and take a screenshot to show what I am yearning for.

Voila! My masterpiece is complete!

That looks good to me. It is far more minimalist in nature than the current printable thread pages, which is a good thing - the current ones tack on a lot of extraneous content that you probably don't want to print out with the thread.

I'd support a change such as that being made to the printable thread pages.

Yeah my only gripe with those is that it adds too much stupid stuff along with it. Like the print button actually bascially just gets rid of all the CSS and HTML and just leaves the text and links, and the download button just takes the entire HTML document and saves it so you will have to save every single page of the thread individually.

Hi! Revisiting this thread to say that I would still like to have this done at some point in the near future :3
