Singe 2,111 August 30, 2013 Share August 30, 2013 So is the Equestria Girls going to be just a high school teenager drama series or are we looking at the making of a Magical Girl series with high school teenager drama? FIM villians gets remade to MEG world. Flash becomes involved in the magical girl side.
Scootalove 10,692 August 31, 2013 Share August 31, 2013 I don't get it. I really don't want another Equestria Girls since one is enough because if we had another movie then people would find a way to complain more about it. SasQ 1,380 August 31, 2013 Share August 31, 2013 (edited) I was complaining about Hasbro making this spin-off when I first saw the trailer too. I was all like "What?! O my gawd, what's happening to my life! Whyyyy?! What else they attempt to ruin?!" I didn't want to watch it for a long time, but when many MLP friends started to recommend it to me, I finally gave up and watched the whole movie. And then... "Hey, nice intro scenes... I'm starting to be intrigued..." {the one with the night at the palace and Sunset Shimmer sneaking in.} "Oh, dat Stargate reference..." {the mirror} "Marvelous reactions to transforming into Human! Very legit!" "SYMBOLISM!!!!!!!111" {after seeing Twilight's shoes and the decorations of Canterlot High} "It's hilarious how she retained some pony behaviors there." {galloping, eating apple, holding pen...} "Hmm interesting that they made the relationships between her friends to be different than in Equestria..." {Indeed} "Interesting culture clash." {using computers} "Lawl, another joke! ;D" {yeah, they make jokes at the same level as in "MLP:FiM"} "Mmm nice catchy song..." {"Helping Twilight Win the Crown"} "THAT - IS - AWESOME! /)^3^(\" {the grand finale} So yeah, now I like it very much. I like how they continued the thread about Alicoronation stuff and made Twilight have some doubts about that (which I see as a signal that they're aware of what they messed up in Season 3 finale and they at least want to fix it somehow). I like how they matched my ideas about Pony World vs. Human World as being mirror to each other, and the dynamics of Bright Magic vs. Dark Magic. I like that they continue to use the deep symbolism as in the main series. I love how they expressed Twilight's surprise after she crossed the portal and made her retain many pony-ish behaviors; this was hilarious and very legit. I had a lot of fun with the jokes, and with noticing all those references & easter eggs. But what I like the most is how they embedded the idea of Magic of Friendship and extended it in a very new direction, with very deep implications to us, Humans. If anypony doesn't know what I'm talking about, then I strongly recommend to watch this movie again and again, until you notice it. The creators have done a great job in sending this positive and heart-warming message to the world, and, as usual, packing it in a way that it can go unnoticed, straight to the subconscious minds. There are just two things I don't like in "EqG". One is that they used their coat colors for their skin colors, because this is plain silly and looks very stupid. (But I guess this might be some way to avoid copyright issues, since the idea of humanized ponies is purely fan-made, and there were plenty of drawings & animations of humanized ponies there in the Internet long before "EqG", very similar to how Hasbro did it, and they seem to know that they just have it stolen from the fans.) The other one is that transformation scene in the grand finale, which is very "Sailor Moon"-ish and completely unnecessary. But I can live with that. So in one hand, I can understand this whole hate towards "EqG", I've been there too and done that. But on the other hand, I cannot understand it after I watched the movie. So if anyone of you still have some hard feelings towards "EqG", maybe it's because you haven't it watched yet? Then I recommend to just STFU and watch, and then let's see what will happen Edited August 31, 2013 by SasQ My best posts list Recent post: Language Exchange
Dusknight Haze 161 August 31, 2013 Share August 31, 2013 I kinda agree with your assessment, although I can still understand the hate after watching it. It was well-made, with very few problems from a technical perspective. The songs were damn catchy, too. However the nature of the characters themselves, a few plotholes and pacing problems, and a complete lack of the spirit of the original show kinda irks me. For one, why does only Twilight Sparkle not have a counterpart? If we can assume that EVERYONE else does, then where is hers located, and why was it apart from the rest? Secondly, why doesn't she just tell Celestia the crown is hers? Problem solved from the start.... Not to mention that Sunset Shimmer had the crown from the beginning (if you want to see a hilarious takedown of this, you should watch the youtube video "Everything Wrong with Equestria Girls") and could have transformed at any time from immediately entering the human world. Thirdly, why is Celestia a principal to begin with? Everyone has been condensed to inane and banal proportions relative to the show; whereas our mane heroines were all powerful and strong-of-heart Element wielders, they are now average human girls in a high school and Celestia, a magical being who can literally raise the sun into the sky, is now a measly principal? Could have been a little more creative on that front... Plus it just doesn't have the same general feminist undertone the show does, about girls caring none about boys and instead about their own adventures and lives. As a plus to the movie, the friendship aspect is retained, but that should be a given considering it's a spinoff of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic so maybe I shouldn't be kind in that respect. Okay, I've been a little harsh so far so let me dial back to the good. It's still about the mane 6, they still have their same cute and hilarious interactions and bonds as friends (even if it feels forced relative to the show) and they still sing damn catchy songs (Helping Twilight Get the Crown is one of my personal favorites out of all the songs). It's just that while the entire MLP franchise is a merchandise-driven cash cow (regardless of the actual quality or interest levels of the merchandise itself), the show was so much more and apart from that. Yeah, by its very nature it was a self-advertisement, but it was SO GOOD. Everything from the subtle feminism-for-little-girls aesops to the lovably adorable characters with unique personalities, to the wonderful story and song-writing, it was raising the bar for western animated television everywhere it aired. EqG, while still retaining the core idea of the franchise, is kind of a cop-out, because it is just a self-advertisement with little more. It doesn't have the same soul or spirit of the show, even if the character designs are brilliantly adapted, and the dynamic remains the same. It's just merchandising I don't think I'd mind if there was another, or even a series, just as long as it gets back to the core, ya'know? 1 Applejack > Fluttershy > Rarity > Pinkie Pie > Twilight Sparkle > Rainbow Dash "The fun has been doubled!" and "My sister is speakin' in Fancy!" f(x)= Cax where a=(y2/y1)1/(x2-x1) and also Vf2= Vi2 + 2a(Δs)
Rappy0 338 August 31, 2013 Share August 31, 2013 I really don't want to see this as a series spin off. I hated EG and would hate a series. That would just be a bad idea for the team to work on 2 shows. All it would do in the end is lower the quality of each other and put more stress on DHX especially when they work with this rabid of a fan base. This should stay as a one off thing and not be brought up again.
Singe 2,111 August 31, 2013 Author Share August 31, 2013 This movie leaves a blank template for a series or another movie to build on to do what ever they want. Human Twilight doesn't have to follow the same path as Pony Twilight and fall for Flash. She could instead not be interested in boys and focus on her education aiming for valedictorian. Added backstory that Twilight's mom was at the top of her classes and she wants to follow in those footsteps.
Cantankerous 106 August 31, 2013 Share August 31, 2013 (edited) It doesn't appear there's going to be a series at all. They don't seem to have set themselves up for one. But what I like the most is how they embedded the idea of Magic of Friendship and extended it in a very new direction, with very deep implications to us, Humans. If anypony doesn't know what I'm talking about, then I strongly recommend to watch this movie again and again, until you notice it. I'd prefer it if you just told me what you mean. Singe 2,111 August 31, 2013 Author Share August 31, 2013 There is no way Twilight is going to go for Flash, if she's going to be "I love you, big brother." Shining Armor was the only male Twilight was serious about to possessive. He could be very protective of Twilight and blocks Flash. Also having any of the other Mane 5 be attracted to Shining could write itself.
