Hello there I am planning a roleplay here, my first that is and I want some willing people to join. I'm going to lead the roleplay but not actually participate since my grammar is appalling. Anyway it's going to be about Equestria being like Ancient Egypt but with ponies. Equestria is going to be desert but have a river going through called the "Hile" and that area is going to be green and fertile. At the end of the river there is going to be a Delta similar to a Jungle and that is where most of the cities are going to be and be the home of the leader and the name doesn't have to be "Pharoah ". I  don't know a whole lot about roleplays but you guys can help me out on this. I'll allow ONE Alicorn but his powers cannot only be slightly more powerful than the rest of the ponies. NO Godmodding allowed, go do that at another roleplay if you wish.

There will be other creatures other than ponies such as griffons and humans but the majority of characters shall be composed of ponies. Your OC's can hold a variety of job's such as scribe, farmer and nomad in the desert. For right now I'm thinking about it but you guys can help me expand the universe with your authentic ideas. So that's it for right now and one last thing you roleplay skills DON'T HAVE to be good but just have legible grammar. Well I hope you guys join ;) .

 

P.S The river is called the "Hile" because the "H" stand for "Horse" and "Pile" sounded stupid.

Can I be the Alicorn?  I was wanting to create an Egyptian-themed Alicorn character for another roleplay when I saw the link to yours.  I'm a huge Egypt nerd.  Unfortunately, I'm at work, and my Egyptian language dictionaries--and graphics creation tools--are at home, so I can't name the character (probably "her" unless you're specifying a male monarch) and make her image yet.  Well, I could borrow a historical name like Hatshepswt or Amenemhet or something. :)

 

If you or other players want, I can provide quasi-authentic Egyptian names for your/their OC's.  E.g., if you want to have an OC named "River Lotus," I could look up words for "river" and "lotus" in ancient Egyptian and provide a few name options to choose from.  Given an extra day or three (to access the scanner at work) I could provide hand-written hieroglyphics of the name.  I can also advise on hieroglyphic cutie marks if desired.

 

A couple things:  "Pharaoh" is a Hebraization of "Per-a'a," meaning "Great House."  It was a reference to the Royal palace and a network of temples that were involved with administration of the country.  It was used as a synonym for the monarch the same way Americans use "the White House" to refer to the President of the U.S..  They had other words for "king" or "queen" (my dictionaries are at home ;) ), but "Pharaoh" became the title we use because it's what the ancient Hebrews used, which ended up in the Bible.

 

I could probably look up some more accurate names for "Nile."  The Egyptian deity of the Nile was Hapi (which would be pretty good for an FiM-like game!), and that's probably the most common word they'd have used for the river itself.  "Hile" would probably be what the Greek ponies (if we want Greek ponies) would call it.  In our history, the Greek names for Egyptian places, deities, etc. became the ones we use because the Greeks became more directly influential on Western culture than the Egyptians.  E.g., Anpu became Anubis, Djehwty became Thoth, Khufu became Cheops, Wset became Isis, etc..

 

Also, the location of ancient Kemare't ("Kemet" plus "mare" = "Kemare't" :) ) would probably not be in Equestria proper, but somewhere closer to Saddle Arabia.  A pony Ancient Egypt is quasi-canonical, since its ruins were featured in the novelized adventure of Derring Do (the Indiana Jones mare in the book Rainbow Dash was reading in the hospital).

 

Did I mention that I'm an Egypt nerd? ;)

Sure you can be the Alicorn since I'm probably just going to play some minor role in this. It's really cool that you can do all of that (like creating hieroglyphics and naming OC's). If only we could find more players :okiedokielokie: .

I wonder if more people are going to join well I hope so because you can't do a roleplay with two people. So if you find it in your heart join :D .

@@Brain Drain, I'll read your character's bio as soon as I can.  Do you want him to be a native Kemare'ti (Egyptian), or will he be a traveler from somewhere else?  If he's Kemare'ti, if you like I can come up with an Egyptian name for him, and a few subtle tweaks for his backstory within this RP (no need to add them to his official bio, of course), like replacing Dr. Xavier Rath with a powerful sorcerer pony.

 

I like him!  Also, nice art!

Hmm I think Egyptian name would be fine and you can make all the tweaks you want just keep in mind he is a sort of thief.

This is my original OC, but I can be someone else if you like. (Note: she is not immortal and can only do so much her ability, I'll give you a list if you want.)  

 

Star Belle may look like your average pegasus with a preforming talent, but she's actually a wizard from another dimension! She frequently visits Equestria and is friends with Pinkie Pie & Twilight. Can often be found at Twilight's library studying magic or Equestrian history. Can do a Sonic Starboom(Rainboom) but doesn't feel like showing up Rainbow Dash(It won't end well). She's also friends with many of the background ponies & babysits Scootaloo a lot.

 

I can be a background character, villain, Guard of the Something or Other, or just not use my powers if you'd like.

 

 

 

 

 

P.S. How does this thing work, exactly? :huh:

Honestly you can be what you want except the MAIN villain but you can be a side villain or one of the protagonist's if you like :) .

I want to be the guard of something important. And be evil. Do you mind if I use a spell? (It's okay if I can't, I just want to know the answer.)

I'm thinking you can be the main guard of the entrance to the Equestrian delta. Your can use spells but they CAN''T be TOO powerful to the point of looking like is a godmod that just wouldn't be fun now wouldn't it -_- .

A delta is the mouth of the river flowing into an ocean or lake. They're usually green and fertile because in this Roleplay the setting takes place in the desert but that area is going to be like a "Jungle". Anyway yeah I'll let you use a sword because simply that makes the roleplay more fun because the Ancient Egyptians didn't have swords ( I think).

Storm could be a peasant mare. :3

So do you want to be one of the protagonist's or one the background characters because you can be any of the roles I just mentioned if you wish.

Forgive me for asking, but can i play the role of a thief of a sort? I think it would best fit twisted fate unless you just want him as a commoner with some thief skills.

Yeah you can be a thief but a good thief or an evil one?. Is your OC generally good or evil ( Just wondering).

I hate it when I reply to someone and they don't reply back. I wonder what's going on with the notification system it seems screwed up. I'm talking in general I'm NOT talking about a SPECIFIC user , I don't want to offend someone

Well in my opinion your OC should start out as an antagonist but as the RP progresses he becomes "Good".

Hmm we shall see how it plays out because if there is a rich pony i'm pretty sure i'll steal it, but who knows. 

Yeah there will be "rich" antagonist's your OC can steal from because most of the antagonist's in this story will be rich or powerful ( socially) so yeah.

The roleplay's story or your character's story is what I would like to know.

 

I was going to use the most recent part of Merywset's backstory, since it contains things like the land going dark and the sudden emergence of a new monarch, which are things everypony else would notice. ;)  But, we can have a bit of time pass since that point, and do a different "hook" for the start of the story if you like.

 

@@Brain Drain,

 

Do you like Shai Khabu as an Egyptian name for your OC?  "Shai" is Fate (personified), and "Khabu" means twisted, bent, moral obliquity, fraud, guile, deceit.  If you don't like the sound of the words, I can look for some synonyms.  As for the bio tweaks, I wouldn't want to change anything of substance, just rub off the serial numbers a bit so his background fits with the setting.  E.g., replace the mad scientist with a mad sorcerer and give him an Egyptian name, replace "gypsy" with "bedouin" or an Egyptian name for desert nomads, that sort of thing.  Since FiM is no stranger to anachronism (Steampunk tech, plus arcade games!), I wouldn't change the stuff having to do with playing cards in his bio even though the Egyptians didn't have them. :)

The ancient Egyptians did have swords.  They looked like this, and were made of bronze (on Earth anyway...).  Maybe your character could be the Commander of the Royal Guard who served the (evil) Alicorn King who has recently been overthrown (see my character's backstory).  Is that OK with you, @@EP1C N3RD?  Epic Harmony, if you'd like to have an Egyptian name for your character, I can look up a translation of your name for the character, or just come up with something. 

 

@, would you like Egyptian names for your OC's?  Minty Wintergreen could be something like Nauaui-Sarqutunu (lit. Minty-Snow[green]plant) or Nauaui-Sarquakh (Minty Snow[to bloom, become green]).  My dictionaries don't have any words for "winter" and only one word for "snow," but there are a number of synonyms for "green," with different connotations.  There are a lot of words for "Storm," and similar concepts like "storm wind" or "storm god," so I could produce some of those for you if you're interested.

 

I don't think it ought to be a game rule to require Egyptian names (we're here to have fun, after all ;) ), but I'll try to find something you like if you want the frisson of authenticity. :)

I'm a wizard from another world, so I'll probably use a more modern sword if it is okay with @EP1C N3RD.

 

As for an Egyptian name, translate it, and if I like it, I'll keep it.

 

By the way, what attire would an Egyptian guard wear?

I'll let you use an iron sword if that is okay with you. Maybe we could use  minecraft style and make some out of diamond etc.
