The MLP Forums (Virtual) Racecar!

This Weekend's Racetrack (http://mlpforums.com/topic/74012-the-mlp-forums-virtual-racecar/page-3#entry1902668)

I currently run in an iRacing.com racing league known as the West Pro Series. I'm competing in the Competition Diecast Grand National Series division of the league, and I've gotten quite bored with my current paint scheme. So after a bit of thinking, and harkening back to the "MLP Appreciation wallpapers," I figured why not have the members of the MLP Forums "sponsor" my car with their OCs? Basically, I'll have the OC ponies on the hood of the car, and areas that are not completely covered by the default "contingency decals" that come stamped already to the car. All you have to do is post a vector image of your avatar that is easy for me to crop and adjust in an image editing program. To get a good idea of what the car looks like, here's a link to info about the car itself:
http://www.iracing.com/cars/chevrolet-national-impala/
The West Pro Series' Competition Diecast Grand National Series does have broadcasted races, so I figured that would sweeten the deal a bit. Despite that, their broadcasting schedule is rather erratic, making it difficult to plan a specific day that I'll run the scheme. So, instead, if I can get enough OCs, I'll run the scheme for the rest of the season! Due to limited space, I will have to limit, for now, the amount of OCs to 12. I'll need to get a good idea of how many I can fit, then consider adding more ponies to my car. Races will be broadcast live at http://allst01.wix.com/nobull-entertainment#!live-page/c60z Be sure to tune in when a race goes live (I'll let you guys know via mentions), so you can cheer me and your OC on in the 56 car, as well as my teammate in the 55 car!

I'll have my OC Shining Midnight on there. I'll get my pic up once I get the pic as just the pony so the background is transparent for easy editing ^-^ (Meaning this is a placeholder biggrin.png)

Here's the OC pic ^-^

People actually responded?!!?!?!?!! I thought this thread died!!!!!! Awesome, guys, I haven't had the chance to work on the scheme this weekend due to circumstances that were out of my control, but this week, I'll start to work on a design, as well as placement for the ponies! The next race will be at the infamous Rockingham Speedway, AKA, The Rock. I'm really hoping that the race will be broadcast (there are a few more races left in the season), and I'm sure at least one of them will be aired on NoBull.

Sure, I'll leave a few vectors of my OC, Blue Moon. You can choose whichever you want; I don't mind.

Anyway, here are the vectors for Blue Moon:

Is this picture okay?

Good Luck in the Race, by the way, this is a really good idea ^^

I'll be sure to cheer you guys on =)

I would love to include my OC in this, just as soon as I get a good vector, I'll post it ;) Great idea by the way and good luck

I will not be able to run tonight's race due to the fact that I have crap to do, but on the chance that it does broadcast, once again, watch out for the 55, as he's my teammate/team owner!

Also, I keep thinking how cool it would be if Poniverse were to sponsor the car, somehow. :P Slim chance, but still, that would be sweet. It'd create a good publicity thing for them, but I might need to focus more on finishing consistently in the top 5 before I try and find a legitimate sponsor. Next season has a possibility, though!

You bet ya! But I don't know what one to chose. It's either between Thunder Dash and Nitro Spark. But since Nitro Spark is a street racer, I'll choose him. Here's a ref pic.

You know what? This sounds pretty awesome and very interesting! smile.png Count me in.

I'm sure my OC, Orion Skies would love to get featured in the virtual competition. He is a fan of speed after all. wink.png

Here are some good vector references of him.

You can use my OC if you want. Use my main one, Blazing Hoof. There's a picture of him in my signature and in his profile. (Which is also in my signature)

Thanks everypony! I thought this idea would never take off. Guess I'm wrong again! The next three races are at Rockingham next week, Atlanta the week after, and the Charlotte for the season finale. All three are tracks I have a dominant car at, so if they're broadcasted, expect to see the 56 car running up front with your OCs! Maybe I'll even carry it into next season for a few races, as well!

Before I get into what I've quoted, I thought I'd make mention that I'm not really from around here and the chance of me maintaining my eye on this is slim, but Mr. Ragin' over there will for sure keep me in the loop about this thread.

For those who are curious, I just so happen to be Mr. Ragin's team owner and he has directed my attention to this thread so that I may greenlight whether or not he can use these schemes. I'll be honest, I'm not a brony and never really took any interest into this but after seeking this thread out, I actually like some of these 'OC' that I see. I usually try to refrain from using my imagination so it's quite refreshing to see these colors mashed together to make things.

Humor aside, I like what I see and I've decided that until I receive a primary sponsor, I will also open up my #55 Chevy to a select few 'OC' that I find to be interesting to me.

Be it broadcasted or not, I will write up a report on how the car did in the race that it was ran in and I'll provide pictures of the car in action both before and after the race. Keep in mind, this is all in the virtual world so there is little chance of your OC actually getting harmed.

Now, onto this. I'm not quite sure why, but I'm quite fond of this 'OC'. It feels like something I could make a car around. Mr. Thunder, would you be willing to consult with me to create another 'OC' based off of this character? It would be required to match the color of my already designed car and I feel that the way you have done this one, all you have to do is change some colors around.

Keep on posting your OC. I might even throw in a few prizes for getting your OC on the car.. Depending on if an Admin has a problem with this.

Keep up the work.

Let me think about that. As you can see, I made him via Pony Creator on the HUB website. To me, red and orange fit him best. I'll allow you to make an OC based off him, as long as it does not copy most of the features on it. This is gonna turn out real good.

Hey Thunder,

Thanks for the response, bud. As I've said, I'm not really from around here and I haven't done a lot of searching due to the fact that I'm short on time. I'm not really too keen on the idea of recreating or making a new one, the whole ordeal here is to get other people's work on the car and not just my own. So the more work you do the better, because then it's your work. Here is an image of the car scheme that I was hoping you'd be able to work with. I'm sure you could figure out something to fit it and make it look good so it blends in, but also sticks out.

I'll also put your name name on the car and if you have a Twitter handle or something that you'd like shouted out I'd be happy to do that as well. I'll consider doing this for everyone but right now the offer is only to you, as it would require you to modify your 'OC' slightly which bides into your personal time.

The image may be big, so be warned.

I could make an alternate color scheme just for this car. Besides, maybe that would turn into a "super form" of my OC Nitro Spark. I'll see what I can do.

That looks good, is it okay if the graphic designer makes minor color adjustments to ensure that they can see it? I like the way it is personally but I'll leave it with the graphic designer to decide. I'll keep you in the loop.

Sure! That'll be fine. Besides, I really want this to come out the best it can, so better safe than sorry.

I'm guessing that the individual picture can be adjusted to fit the car via iRacing's customization tools. Would I be correct?

Yes, sir. You are correct. Everything that is done for custom paint schemes is done by graphic editing tools such as Photoshop, Gimp or any other software that reads layers. The image that is provided can be scaled and recolored to match what ever it is that the graphic designer needs.

Photoshop, Gimp

I've got GIMP, but I only use it for coloring and stuff. Not very good at it.

Photoshop on the other hand, wish I had it, looks sooo easy to use. Anyhow, hope it all comes out well!

For the races that I run my pony car in the West Pro Series, I'll fill you guys in on the track and the upcoming race with a little write-up about the track and its history, as well as an exclusive lap-around video which will be created and uploaded sometime this weekend! The strategies used during the race will be discussed during the lap-around videos.

Track Overview

Rockingham Speedway, otherwise known as The Rock, is a very deceiving racetrack that the West Pro Series Competition Diecast Grand National Series will be visiting this weekend. The 1 mile course features turns that can initially be taken at high speeds, but looks are deceiving. The corners quickly sharpen, and a gradual and gentle reduction of speed is needed to successfully navigate the corners. The outside wall will smack drivers who overestimate their cars, and effectively end their racing day. Expect drivers to run a line in the straightaways that is right up against the wall, then bringing it down low into the turns, then back up again.

Track History

Built in 1965, The Rock eventually lost its prominence in the main NASCAR divisions, losing its race date in 2005. Despite this, the track still remained, and was the spot for filming of movie scenes in 3: The Dale Earnhardt Story, and Ta Ra Rum Pum. The Rock did have a resurgence at the turn of the decade, as it took new ownership in 2007. The track went on to host a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race in 2012, as well as a K&N Pro Series event, ushering a new era for the raceway as NASCAR welcomed it back onto the circuit.

Danger Zones

Due to the fact that drivers often are on the gas all the way through their corner exit, they may experience a condition in which the car starts to swing out towards the rear, a condition known as a loose condition. Such conditions are prevalent at corner exit, mostly at the exit of turns 2 and 4, and therefore, creates some passing opportunities, albeit risky ones. Running side by side against a loose car can often spell disaster, giving Rockingham very interesting risk vs. reward scenarios in which drivers will face on Sunday.

When do you think you're gonna get a vector of your OC? I'm starting to design the car right now.

Here you go! Don't know if you'll be able to use it or not, but here, have Nightshadow. I won't be annoyed if you can't use her, I'm just throwing her out there.

Nice, but do you have a vector of it? I'll try to use that, but I'd prefer a vector. And to everyone else, I'm gonna do a lap around video soon!

Hm, well, I don't have any vectors, but maybe I could look up a tutorial of how to make one and do it myself. If not, I'll see if I can get someone else to do it. I'll definitely try to get back to you ASAP. :)
