Only if she hit the actual face of the portal. She may have been planning to hit the side of it and destroy it by destroying the frame. Or she was bluffing Twilight, knowing she couldn't actually hit the portal, but hoping Twilight would be too anxious to think about it.

A lot of ponies seem to have missed this fact altogether and criticise the writers for it, but I'm fairly certain that if she broke the state that the portal would not work (just like smashing the mirror).

As Full Spectrum said she was bluffing. She needed the portal to invade Equestria with her teen army, so she never intended to actually damage it. Twilight called her bluff, so she was left with just one final option: Attack Twilight.
