Sunset Shimmer: An Enormous Waste of Potential

The reason I dont like SS is because shes more of an a-hole than a villain until she transforms into a demon. Since neither SS or Twilight cant use they unicorn powers in Equestria girls universe she had to be more manipulative. I just wished the villains would get more screen time so we can get some backstory about them. I didnt like the ending of it...for 2 reasons

1 she is suddenly forgiven for enslaving an entire school of people and have world domination plans.

2. Since its an alternate universe Sunset shimmer should already be in the equestria girls universe so now theres 2 of them in the same universe and that could be quite confusing to some but I guess the whole enslaved and girls getting ears and wings is also strange. Bottom line is that Sunset should've been brought back to ponyverse in my opinion.

i think its a yes captain browny sunset really wants the powers so she stole the element of harmony from twilight and if she has it she will invade the whole equestria which is bad.

You and I are on the same boat in this matter friend. Before EqG was released, we had a villain in the making that could've become one of the most memorable in the franchise, if not in the history of every villain to have ever existed. The way she was set up like, I was expecting a villain equal to Twilight in power and intelligence, and with the crown her powers would double, even triple, tenfold. The problem here, is that with the plotline and setting of Equestria Girls, Sunset was turned from becoming one of the franchise's most formidable villains to instead becoming the stereotypically brash, careless and domineering Alpha B*tch bad girl school bully.

Shame on you, Hasbro, for sh*tting on one gigantic opportunity to truly test Twilight's abilities as Celestia's protégé and the Element of Magic. Instead, you gave us what could be translated into a ponified/humanized version of Sailor Moon with hair extensions. angry.png

I actually liked Sunset Shimmer, a good bit more than Discord and the other favorites. To the people who complain about her being nothing but a bully, she had no magic, it was all she could at that point.

Oh, my God....

1. Trixie 2.0 / Luna 2.0 (Especially glaring since the originals were also in the movie.)
2. Dangerously Genre Blind
3. Anti-climactic One-Winged Angel powers

AVGN: What were they thinking?!

P.S.- At least the comics did somewhat better with her.

1. Trixie is weak, Sunset is strong. I don't see how Luna and Sunset relate.

2.Actually more genre savvy than the other villains. At least Sunset actually tried to kill Twilight instead of giving a momologue and standing there while the Elements rocket at them.

3. How were these Ani-climactic? I liked her little transformation, if only for looking like a Super Saiyan crossbred with a Gargoyle

@Evil Dragon Master:

1. Twilight's rival, Artifact Of Doom, redemption scene, etc. Sound familiar?

2. Actually monologued before trying to kill them, giving them enough time to become Sailor Scouts.

3. Didn't really do all that much after transforming, though.

P.S.: Lex Luthor, David Xanatos, and Grand Admiral Thrawn also have no powers, but have craploads of resources to compensate. If you ask me, Sunset was all set to be like that, but just didn't seem to capitalize on her high-school connections and all as well as she really could've. Hopefully, a potential sequel will have a true Bad@$$ Normal and/or Magnificent B@$+@rd human antagonist.

1. Luna isn't Twilight's rival and if you're referring to Trixie, you're insane. Trixie was nowhere near Twilight in power until she cheated, at which point she wasn't a rival, she was superior.

2. At least she actually tried to kill them, unlike Discord, Trixie, Nightmare Moon, or Queen Chrysalis. She also monologued vastly less than "What a lovely but a ridiculous sentiment".

3. It blew up part of the school, attempted to kill Twilight, mind-controlled the faculty, and made Snips and Snails demons. Not too much, but alright.

4. Sunset doesn't have enough resources other than fear, which is thrown out the window when you realize that that depends on people not banding together. She used all the sources available to her

I read her story in the Equestria Girls IDW comic. Explains all the things I was wondering about her relationship with Celestia and how she got banished.

Turns out Celestia was keeping secrets from her and the reason explained is why she couldnt continue being her student. (Being bleak because I dont want to spoil it.)
