Is this color palette acceptable?

Won't go into the story behind this, but how are the colors on this? I'm going to draw this out soon, but  I want a second opinion on the colors before I do.

make his hair a little darker and it should be ok. its always a shame when folks make the colours so bright/dark that some of the detail of their OC is lost

I agree, that is the main problem. When hair colour is similar to coat colour, it seems like it's more of the same IMO.

Otherwise, it does look pretty good :3

Just came home with my new (And first) drawing tablet =D About to draw him, and I readjusted the colours. I have two more questions now, are the new colours more appealing to the eye, and do you have any advice for drawing these things? (This isn't going to be a copy of this, so I need to make up alot of things on the fly, like cutie mark and manestyle)

I looove your first one. Not many people do pastel color schemes, and I love pastels. The only problem is that the grey in the cutie mark is hard to see, so I'd either lighten or darken the grey. I don't understand why people think the color scheme is too light. Just look at Fleur Dis Les:

I'm not fond of the second version...Possibly because the coat is so desaturated compared to the mane colors that they look like separate objects rather than a unified design.

Ultimately, it depends on your OC's personality. For example, Fleur Dis Les can get away with a light color scheme because it emphasizes her graceful personality. If your OC has a calm or gentle nature, pastel is great. If he's more action-oriented, darker colors might work better.

Well he has his oc against a white background, it is going to effect how light or dark people are going to see the colours.

Try looking at Fleur Dis Les against a white background. you'd think she was too white and try and darken the colours.

But unless Outkin's only goal for this OC is to have him star in white-background pictures, I don't see how it makes sense to tell him to change his OC's design just because it doesn't look good in this single instance.

I don't get why he even asks if its acceptable, its his OC, he could make it any colour he likes. smile.png I suppose it gives him a reason to tweak its design and he can always go back on a previous one if he wants.

I am SO happy for you biggrin.png I still remember when I got my first tablet   wub.png

I like the palette but how about a more "minty" green for the coat? Just an idea really.

Also! I was on deviantart yesterday and found this guy tutorials, they are really useful! Perhaps you don't need them but just in case you might wanna check them out :D

Thanks for the continued opinions :P I was content but I'll take whatever is thrown at me to make my product the best it can be (once I improve my art a bit more and get some free time....coughcoughschoolcough)

I see color schemes I thought were cool, but they clashed or were overused. I could say "Screw it" for the later, but for the former it's because I don't understand how colours flow together yet...this didn't make me realize it, but I know it's a weakness: I have poor taste in colors. I actually looked up good colour palettes and mixed and matched.

Why does this matter to me? I want to get more involved in the community soon, and want a pony form to represent me when I need it. I figure this is what's going out to world to be seen by people when they see me, so I may as well be enjoyable to look at no? At the same time I don't feel like I'm just coping to "fit in". If it didn't work out I would have kept the things I saw important (blue/green base, unique(ish) color scheme) and redid the idea. This is actually my ponysona MK2, but I decided the orginal sucked and scrapped it, took important bits, did what you see above. Being unique and who you are is important to me...I'm not sure if this has been for better or for worse, but nonetheless I'm trying to keep this concept true even within my pony self...to me this is the equivalent of taking a shower and tieing my hair back so I look better for a job interview. It doesn't change anything really, but it comes in a neater package. (I was never one to care much about the details of my appearance anyways XD)

...sorry for the word wall, just felt like explaining my backstory for this a bit XD I'm going to experiment with different backgrounds before I finish this so I can get the right tone, but I got the colors themselves right which makes me happy. I can keep asking you guys stuff and keep you updated if you want but you've done a great job at answering my question and giving a wide variety of opinions to bounce off of.

just avoid black and red Oc's, heard that colour combination is pretty infamous and overused XD
