Cami-~-Pegasis 27 October 16, 2013 Share October 16, 2013 Hello everypony, I am Cami, the pegasis. Here with a scientific breakdown all about: PONY HEIGHTS!!!!!!! Now, you may be wondering, who in the hoof cares about pony heights? Well, this may come in handy. You see, ponies may seem to be bigger than us, or the same height or smaller, and that this subject is irrelevant. But, since this may apply to the real show in some way, shape or form, you should stick around. Now, about pony sizes and heights. The licensed merchandise from Hasbro (the ones from Hasbro themselves) range from 1 inch to 15 inches. This'll come in handy later, so I'll set that aside for now. Let's talk about the show and how this proves my future statement. In "The Best Night Ever" We see Octavia, standing up, playing the cello. The cello? Yes, the cello. Standing up. Playing the cello. Standing up. Cello. Hind legs. C. E. L. L. O. Now that I'm done with the cello part, let me get started on the cello part. Cello. Well, the average cellist sits down while playing the cello, and when standing, it goes up to about mid-waist on the 6 foot male. And since Octavia stands up while playing the cello, we can presume that on all fours, a pony would be to the 6 foot male's mid-thigh. Pretty little. Now that we have that out of the way, we can say that a pony is about 2 and a half feet tall and that they're larger than the Hasbro licensed toys, and this concludes that ponies are indeed, little.
Silver Letter 1,832 October 16, 2013 Share October 16, 2013 (edited) I do not think that cello height in FiM is related to the height of the same instrument in Earth. Their cello may be quite large compared to Earth standards. It means that ponies may perhaps be large compared to humans like an actual pony. We wouldn't know for sure. Scootalove 10,689 October 16, 2013 Share October 16, 2013 I think that ponies vary from short to tall, like humans do sometimes. I think that the ponies do look larger compared to humans. 1 Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
Foreigner And Lover 207 October 16, 2013 Share October 16, 2013 I think I've already posted this twice on the forums in threads about pony heights, but whatever. So I guess there's your answer on pony height. 2 My OC-http://mlpforums.com/page/roleplay-characters/_/absolute-justice-r3895
Thrashy 2,800 October 16, 2013 Share October 16, 2013 Good hypothesis, but consider this: There is actually much dispute as to whether Octavia plays a cello or a double bass, the latter of which being quite a bit larger. Most people who aren't musically savvy automatically think cello when they see a "big violin", but there's quite a bit of evidence pointing towards Octavia's preferred instrument being a double bass. If this is indeed the case, the ponies would be respectably larger than what you're describing, although they would still be fairly short compared to the average human. To put it into perspective: Now, taking into account the obvious stylization difference (the show does exaggerate the design of real-life objects, after all), we can conclude that ponies, if she does indeed play a double bass, would be about chest-high to an adult woman of average height. Which is still fairly short in the grand scheme of things, but not nearly what I'd call toy-sized. Of course, this is all based on the big IF about it being a double bass and not a cello. This video, however, presents some pretty valid evidence of it being the former: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st9CxveZieg
Arretez 225 October 16, 2013 Share October 16, 2013 That's a rather interesting theory. However, cellos come in, I believe (I don't feel like checking the internet because mine's being stupid right now), four different sizes: 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and full. Then there's the end peg/in pin. My in pin comes out to about a foot, maybe a foot and a half. But I've heard that there are longer ones made for taller people. Basically, I think that you need a bit more information. It is an interesting concept, and you did do a lot of research, so I give you the smiley face of approval. You read for this? Ampharos 1,009 October 16, 2013 Share October 16, 2013 Well there's also the part in that episode that Spike has that Heart ruby thing and Rarity shouts that it's 20 carat or something, and a 20 carat ruby is very small. Roughly this size RWBY DISCUSSION THREAD
Passion 3,484 October 16, 2013 Share October 16, 2013 This issue again? I think I'm posting the thing 3rd time already. Anyway, I do not approve of the cello/whatever nor apple theories. It means that we ASSUME the size of given item is an average of our own items height. But why should we refer to such things if we have information, coming from the cast themselves, that candy sticks in img below are 8 feet tall?
