I recall seeing hims ay he's done 4-5 episodes to date,

he's hinting at doing a song,

or does he just delight in being one hell of a cheeky basturd?

 

He never seems to give a straight up answer like he's on permanent troll patrol.

Well, he is the voice actor for Discord after all. He is probably getting a song in Season 4, and I think he enjoys being Discord since it shows off his natural trolling antics and causing chaos for a quick laugh.

John de Lancie is the all-father of trolls. You can't get trollier than John de Lancie. After all, he played Q AND Discord: two of the trolliest characters ever!

Ah, yes John De Lancie as Q was a huge step in his career. It's a good thing that he enjoys being Discord, in a show that is popular.
