"I sure hope your selective in your buyers of the venoms, then. I don't think the healers could handle venoms as potent as I assume yours to be. After all, they're only trained for natural poisons."

 

And I'm guessing this is the part where I start disliking him. It all depends on how he recovers from this.

"You assume I sell them, my good madam, I do not sell these venoms. I use them if I ever find my self in a situation that calls for violence. Though, I do sell my medical potions to people quite often, as they tend to be quite useful to many people besides doctors" Icarus explained.

Minath nodded, mostly satisfied with his answer, but vowing to keep an eye on him.

 

"What situation would call for violence? M job calls for it on a regular basis, but what does an alchemist do that would need fighting?"

 

Minath was peppering him with questions, hoping to get a feel for his personality.

Icarus' attention suddenly became more focused,

"I seek one whom I call the "Creator", the person who engineered the plague at Stalliongrad. And following this person, can lead you into some interesting situations, such as being attacked by what I assume were subordinates. I also try to help people whenever I can, such as helping guards raid thief hideouts and destroying a timberwolf cave that is threatening the town." 

 

Icarus' voice became quite serious

"So I find myself in dangerous situations from time to time"

Minath nodded. She was liking him more and more.

 

"So you're a raider. What division do you normally work with? I have a couple friends who are in charge in other cities..." Minath said. But really she just wanted more info on him so she could decide on his character. He had the feeling of one who is dangerous, but everything he's saying is contradicting that. Or at least agreeing, but on a different scale.

 

And I thought I was an enigma.

"No, I am not a Raider, just a pony who helps those that need to be helped, and destroys those who need to be destroyed" Icarus was slightly intrigued as to why he was being asked all these questions. An inquisitive pony such as this one, would make a great ally, and a challenging enemy. Only time would tell witch one he would consider her.

 

"Though, I have worked with several cities, I believe one of them was named Dodge Junction," Icarus paused for a second "Yes, that was its name, hmm, the bandits there were easily dispatched, considering they found themselves paralyzed..." Icarus trailed off a little.

So that means I need to get in touch with Steel Barricade. And if he has a venom for paralysis, what else does he have that he's not letting on to?

 

"So how did you manage to paralyze them? I assume you just didn't walk into their hideout." 

 

I need to get a proper feel for his abilities.

"That is a good question, I supplied the guards with the venom on to put on their blades, not to mention I armed the  venom on my crossbow, most of the bandits succumbed to respiratory failure a few minutes after a sufficient amount of the venom entered their bloodstream, if I examined the bodies correctly." Icarus explained

 

"A rather painless death, but a  scary one none the less"

 Then Icarus snapped hi attention back to Minath

"But enough about me, may I inquire what you do for a living?"

 

This one seems most interested in me, time to find out what she does, and possibly why.

So he uses a crossbow. Interesting, considering I train the melee units. And the way he addresses death casually is... troubling, to say the least.

 

"I'm the captain of the Canterlot Guard, specifically the Solar unit. I mostly train the newcomers, though. I trained and ascended the Captain of the Cloudsdale guard."

A captain, or the captive, probably has high leadership skills, and high combat skills. Low Physiological impact form killing. Good, he could use her as an ally.

Now, the mare- or, er, colt, Pitch was, initially he had been interested in the story, but he did leave the pony's backstory alone as he realized it was getting dark quite a few posts back.

 

At the moment, the feminine colt set himself down a fair distance away from the group. He reached into his saddlebag and pulled out the comical novel he had in there.

... Aimed for children, of course. Pitch wasn't one for the more vulgar literature that comes in the adult age group.

"Yeah, I've been in the guard since I was 15, way younger than most join. 2 years ago I was promoted to Captain after the death of my captain in the Changeling attack. I'm the youngest captain ever, and considered to be the best of this time." Minath said.

"Best" Eh?, Icarus had met many people considered  "Best", and many of them had perished in unfortunate ways. Only time will tell him if she was the best commander, as she said.

 

"Most interesting....." Icarus said, looking around at the group.

She then noticed another clot sitting by himself with a book of his own. Lila stood up, carrying her stuff over with her and laid next to the colt her stuff hittin the ground with a loud thud. "Hey there." she started with a small smile. "What are you reading?"

Icarus looked Minath with, what seemed like, curiosity in his eyes.

 

"hmmm,  an alicorn, are you possibly some kind of royalty?"

 

An alicorn guard, now that is an anomaly, and an asset Canterlot would sparingly use. I wounder what the princess is planning.

"Not that I'm aware of. It's difficult to trace my lineage, considering I don't know my parents. I was dropped off at an orphanage when I was young, and I don't remember them at all."

 

And I'm glad I don't. I wouldn't be commander if I hadn't fended off the bullies.

Ah an Orphan, they tend to make good soldiers, especially the oppressed ones.

 

"I see, an orphan, guess that's one of the reasons you joined the guard. I hope your parents can give you that answer eventually."

 

The rest of this group seems preoccupied, but I wonder what that stallion I spoke to earlier is doing.

Pitch seemed somewhat startled at Lila's sudden appearance, but he adapted quickly. Ah, um... it's just a comedy novel. You don't need to worry about it.

Lila smiled, "It's my aunts old spell book. This is where I learned my magic, never went to a school, completely self-taught." she said with a slight bit of pride. "It's also where I keep all my potion precipices. It's kind of my thing, potions are that is. The book mostly contains pyromancy spells." she said dragging the book out from her saddlebag and flipping to a random page, showing Pitch. "Oh, I'm Lila by the way." Lila stuck her hoof out to shake.

Minath waved her hoof dismissively.

 

"I don't want to know. I found myself a new life without them, and whatever excuse they have, I don't want to hear it."

 

Minath didn't want to say that about a year of her life had been dedicated to finding them, but now when she thought about them she only felt rage and a pit in the bottom of her stomach.

Icarus couldn't help but feel slightly amused. Hate, Rage, Anger, whatever she felt towards he parents, was unexpected, but none the less a common reaction from some orphans.

Icarus slightly smiled under his mask. 

"An unanswered question shouldn't go unanswered forever, but some things are better left buried I suppose" Icarus said in a neutral tone.

"I'll admit, part of me is curious. But I feel like I wouldn't be the pony I am now without that orphanage. In a way, I'm grateful. Them abandoning me. I wouldn't have fled to Canterlot, wouldn't have snuck into the castle, wouldn't have gotten my cutiemark, and wouldn't have become Captain."

As she reached the gates of the castle, she looked up to find the location of the tallest tower. She sighed. "I'm not going to have enough time to reach the tower before the princess arrives!" she said to herself. If she's not already there! Using her magic, Melody teleported to the tower. Arriving at the door, she tried to compose herself; fixing her messy mane, straightening her saddlebag, and making sure that she looked like anything but a teenager. She opened the door and approached a group of ponies at the center of the room. "I hope I'm not late, am I?"
