open Broken World: Equestria

Firestorm

11 a.m.

Something is stirring in the settlement. The Hierarchy are on alert after capturing several rebels, including Absolon's friend, Oak Mead. No doubt they will be sent to Capital Prime but a prison skyship will not be here for another two hours. Some of the settlers of Stonewall Settlement have begin protests but it isn't widespread...not yet anyway.

In seedy parts of the settlement, rebel supporters begin arming themselves for a fight. A total of two hundred youths put on their armor and load their weapons. The Hierarchy are not aware of the imminent rebellion. They think the settlers of Stonewall Settlement are docile and their death threats should prevent uprisings. How wrong they are.

Absolon

You make your way to the east end bazaar looking for your party members. Since the Hierarchy Enforcers did not know that you were with Oak Mead, your cover is still safe but it is only a matter of time before somepony spots you as an outsider. The air feels rather tense, as if tensions in the settlement are reaching a breaking point. You see settlers arguing with Hierarchy Enforcers and a few hoof fights break out but not enough to elicit a full response from the Hierarchy Enforcers. As you enter the bazaar, a Hierarchy Commissar stops you in your tracks.

"Stop where you are," the commissar growled. Unlike the Enforcers, the commissar wears lesser armor and instead of wearing a helmet, he wears a black officer's cap with the insignia of the Hierarchy in front of it. "I don't think we've met, chavir ("stranger" in West Equestrian Tongue). Where is your identification card?"

Dichromate

You got your new disguise and by the time you are done changing your clothes, you can sense that something is wrong. The settlers and traders seem restless. The Hierarchy are beginning to enter a state of alert and they're stopping random ponies more frequently for an identity check. The first thought that comes into your mind is Sunrise's well-being. You do not know her too well but you can not afford to let somepony like her to wander dangerous streets. You secure your weapons in your saddlebag and blend into the crowd, hoping that you can find Sunrise before the Hierarchy does.

Sunrise

You are happy that you were given free supplies but before you can go any further, a Hierarchy Enforcer stops you by clutching your left leg tightly.

"Where do you think you're going?" the Enforcer asks and looks at your supplies. "I saw everything. You don't have a rationing card and it's against the law to take supplies without a card. I also hear that you're from New Ponyville, hm? I think you're a rebel!"

You start to panic as the Enforcer starts dragging you off to the security station. You struggle but the weapons mounted on his armor's hardpoints come to life. You hear the sound of energy cells charging up and the gun barrel glowed red.

"You come with me quietly or I'll see you reduced to molten slag!"

Nidal

You circle around the settlement and see that several of your friends are in trouble. You can also see that in the middle of the crater, several young colts in light armor are preparing for an attack. As you fly near the mayor's tower, you can see the mayor discussing something with a Hierarchy Commissar through an open window. The mayor seems agitated and he did not seem happy. The commissar, on the other hoof, is smiling, as if he won a bet. That smile faded when he sees you flying outside and staring into the office. He whispers something over his mic and moments later, the skies around you start to fill with black clouds of shrapnel. A flak attack.

Share on other sites

Nidal pulls her wings in and drops down, hoping to evade the flak attack by losing altitude quickly. When closer to the ground, she intends to open her wings and stop her descent as she pulls out her gun. Knowing there are too many enemies, she would fly away, staying close to the ground.

When and if she gets away, the first thing she'll do is put on the Kevlar armor. If the enemies don't let her, she'll run until she finds a place she can fight, at which point she'd fire Rook at the nearest enemy.

When she's in the Kevlar, she'll go up into the sky and locate one of her friends. If twelve comes before that, she'll toss the Molotov into a Hierarchy building.

((Rook is her Stonewall.))

"Oh...hey! No, let me go, I-" Sunrise struggled as the Enforcer dragged her away. Ah no, he thinks I'm a rebel! She attempted to fight against the enforcer, but failed miserably-she just wasn't the fighting type. The enforcer gave a growl of irritation as his guns blazed to life. Oh...not good. Sunrise stopped struggling, and the enforcer, satisfied, decharged the guns. Where am I going? she wondered, as she was dragged away. After a few minutes of aimless wandering, she realized that she was headed to the security office.

~~~~~
Dichromate looked around anxiously for Sunrise, but he couldn't find anyone in this crowd. Although, he realized with dawning suspicion, the Heiarchy appeared to be on tighter guard. Maybe she's been captured already...? He waved the thought out of his mind. No, stop being so bloody pessimistic. Get in there, find Sunrise, find the rest of the group too, and then get the hell out and start a few fires. Dichromate continued searching, but quickly realized that the Heiarchy would get suspicious. They were already double and triple-checking everypony suspiciously, and if he looked like he was searching for someone, they would definitely be on his case.
It was no use. He couldn't find her, and he had been strolling around for at least half an hour. He didn't dare go back to the places he had already been to, the Heiarchy would definitely be on his case. The only place he HADN'T been to yet was the outpost, his bombing target. And, he realized as he carefully trotted to the location, the place Sunrise would probably end up if she HAD been captured. Stop thinking so pessimistically. All the same, the closer he got, the more careful he became. Eventually, just a few blocks away, he hid in a dark alleyway, to bypass a few guards on patrol.
How the hay do I get to the outpost, this place must be swarming with highly alert soldiers! Dichromate pondered this thought. Maybe if I could ambush a guard and steal his armor or something. Or I could cause a distraction. Or try to fight them. Hmm...No matter which path he chose, he knew they would all involve one thing he was good at. Fire. Closing his eyes, he began concentrating. His cutie mark flickered to life as he built up energy for a more powerful fire spell than he was used to.
Absolon
The commissar raises an eyebrow. Your accent seems convincing enough to fool most ponies but the commissar is still doubtful. He sizes you up and eyes your saddlebag. He points at it with his left hoof.
"What's in there?" he asks.
Dichromate
The situation is worsening even before noon. The clock on the clock tower shows that you have only half an hour left before noon. Explosions in the sky catches your attention. It looks like Nidal is keeping Hierarchy busy. Nopony in the settlement seem to care, as if flak attacks are a norm here. You continue to build up your fire attack as you near what seems like the Hierarchy security station. Just then, from the corner of your eye, you see Sunrise being dragged into the station by an Enforcer.
Sunrise
The Enforcer pushes you into a couch forcefully.
"You stay right there, rebel. If you try to leave, I'll gut you alive," he growled.
You can't help but wonder about him. Unlike most Enforcers that spoke in a Trottingham accent, this particular Enforcer sounded like he's from the Eastern parts of Equestria, the Governmental Region (a region within 100 kilometers of Canterlot) to be precise. You also notice that he seems to be looking at you every once in a while. Perhaps you could try striking up a conversation with him, see if you succeed again in your charisma check.
Nidal
You land into an open water tank with a loud splash. Luckily, there is a ladder for you to climb out. You peek out from your hiding place and see no Enforcers coming after you. You exit the water tank and land the roof of a house with a soft thud. You check your equipments and find that they are still in working condition. The clock tower now shows that you have fifteen more minutes before noon.
Nidal pulled out the molotov and spotted a Hierarchy owned building. She waited ten minutes studying the patrols around the building and the guards stationed. When she knew how they went and had five until noon, she flew out. As she approached the building, she threw her molotov, proceeding to ride the updraft of the flames up into the air.
The commissar pushes you away.
"You stay away from me, chavir. I don't have any water for you. Look, just stay out of trouble and none will find you. Now get out of my sight."
With that, he walks past you and went away. You can tell he didn't like being around you at all but it's a good thing. At least he did not insist that you show him an identity card. The clock tower chimes rang as its hands hit 12. Noon. Not long after that happens, all hell breaks loose. You see a building on fire and circling the air is Nidal. At the same time, armed youths emerge from alleyways and houses with weapons. They shouted: "Freedom for Stonewall!"
An armed rebellion.
Nidal scouted out the city, looking for vital enemy targets like a commander and looking for where the concentration of troops, ally and enemy, were.
((Basically, I want a description of how the armed forces are on both sides. It's hard to make decisions without information like that. If you can't think of anything, send me a PM.))
Dichromate swore as he realized that his pessimism had not been for naught. He gritted his teeth, stepped forward, and was just about to charge at the guard when the clock began tolling noon. He blinked, and stepped back. Crap, I don't have time. I'll be back for you later, Sunrise. Peeking out from the alleyway, he spotted rebel factions taking up arms. A building was on fire, and ponies were yelling. Best chance I'm gonna get-I always deliver what I promise. Using the mass confusion as a screen, he dashed past yelling rebels and guards fleeing every which way.
He stopped by the station for a split second to catch his breath, then ran past it, until the command outpost that had been a speck on the horizon suddenly loomed in front of him. With the security station behind him, and his target in front, he paused to analyze the situation. There were soldiers at the outpost, and a few rebels, exchanging blows.
For a second he thought about chucking the cocktail from the distance where he was, but he doubted he'd make the shot. He was just about to edge closer, and risk getting hit in crossfire, when his horn gave a painful twinge, a reminder of what he had been building up for the past ten minutes. Oh, right. If fire doesn't solve the problem-use more! He lowered his horn towards the outpost, and released the energy. The resulting recoil knocked him backwards into the ground. Ow! He opened his eyes just in time to see a wall of flame rushing straight towards the command outpost.
~~~~~

Sunrise was forced onto a couch by the guard, where she stayed, cowed by the threat of his guns. Oh no, now what do I do? She wasn't quite sure if she could make it out if she ran for the exit just now. She decided that she wouldn't and pushed the notion out of her mind. C'mon Sunrise, you gotta be able to do something for yourself. But she wasn't a fast runner. Nor was she a fighter. She wasn't even a superior flyer. Only thing I've got are me and my plants, and I don't even have any plants with me.

While pondering her next move, she noticed that the guard was deliberately trying to avoid looking at her, but every once in a while, he couldn't help but glance her away. Well, better than nothing, right? If I can make friends with him, maybe I can convince him ta let me go. She knew it was a rather stupid idea, but she had nothing better. "So," she said aloud the the guard in a cheerful voice. "You're not from around here, are ya?"

[Quest: Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death]

General Reward: 150 EXP, 500 metal coins

Nidal

As you circle around the settlement while avoiding anti-air fire, you get a clear picture of the situation groundside. Two hundred armed youths along with several older settlers versus one hundred Hierarchy Enforcers and Commissars. The melee started as a hoof fight as settlers and guards throw punches at each other but the situation explodes when one of the Enforcers fired his weapon, killing one of the youths as the energy shot penetrates through the relatively thin armor the youths wear. The youths retaliate by firing their guns at point blank range into the Enforcer's helmet, penetrating his visor and killing him with a headshot. The Enforcer's body falls to the ground.

You can hear shouts of anger and calls for liberation coming from the crowd. "Death to the Hierarch!" they shouted.

You admire their spirit but you also quickly realize that the Hierarchy are beating them back. They have thicker armor and have better weapons compared to the settlers as well as combat experience. Outside the settlement, you spot a few flak cannons and a mobile command center located near the east wall of the settlement. That must be where the Hierarchy officers are directing their troops.

Absolon

Chaos.

It is absolute chaos now in Stonewall Settlement. You arrived here not too long ago as ponies looking for a place to rest but you got dragged into a rebellion instead. News about this will definitely get out and even if the settlers succeed in defeating the Hierarchy, you fear for their future. The Senate will not take this incident lightly and more likely than not, they'll attempt to nuke the settlement once this is over. You have seen it before, you are one of the survivors of the ill-fated Antares Colony. Incessant rebellions led to the destruction of your colony when the Hierarchy dropped a super bunker buster bomb called the "Final Judgment", an enhanced bunker buster bomb with a supercharged magic warhead. It bore right through the ground, fell right into the middle of the colony and exploded. Now, the location where Antares Colony used to be is nothing but a smoking radioactive crater. You were spared because you were on a mission that day.

Somehow, you doubt there will be any win-win situation in this battle for liberty. Nevertheless, for the sake of the ponies of Stonewall Settlement, you decide to fight. The sound of weapons charging up brings you back to reality. You look to your left and see an Enforcer taking aim at you with his weapon. Defend yourself.

Dichromate

Your supercharged fireball spirals towards the command outpost. The fireball explodes when it hit the outpost and sends wooden splinters and metal shards flying everywhere. From the wreck of the outpost, a Commissar emerges with his body on fire, screaming in pain as the fire burned through his clothes, skin and flesh. He rolls on the ground, attempting to douse the flames that burned his body. Several Enforcers emerge from the ruins too but their suits protected them from your fire attack.

"You'll pay for that, rebel scum!" one of them shouted and lowers his head, his horn pointed at you. Seconds later, you see a fireball spiraling towards you. ((Do a saving roll, feel free to describe the results of the roll))

Sunrise

You can't help but shudder as the battle rages outside of the security station. While some of the Enforcers in the station mobilize for battle, the one that dragged you in here stayed with you. The question you asked him seem to hit him like a brick.

"Well...I...I come from the Fillydelphia Colony. What's it to you?" he asked. At the same time, a bullet struck the window of the security station and shatters into hundreds of glass shards. "You better hide under that armored desk. Things are getting choppy," he said and points towards the desk near the counter. You hide underneath the desk while the Enforcer takes cover behind a file cabinet.

"You alright?" he asks.

[Morale]

Rebels: 100

Hierarchy: 100

[Reinforcements]

Rebels: 192 left

Hierarchy: 95 left

Dichromate ducked to the ground to avoid the fireball, which still managed to singe him as it passed overhead. Aw hell, I don't even have a weapon. They have GUNS. Calling upon his magic again, he shot out another spurt of flame, this time in an attempt to create a smokescreen and give him a chance to escape. No way I can beat three like this. Remembering the Rainbow Cocktail he had, he tossed that at them too, not sure what,if anything, it would do.

~~~~~~~~~
Sunrise blinked. "I'm fine. But...it looks kind of...dangerous out there." She tilted her head. "Are-are you sure you want to throw away your life like this for the Heiarchy?"
You fire five shots from your weapon. Three shots went wild and hits a building behind the Enforcer. The remaining two shards strike the Enforcer's left leg, throwing his aim. The Enforcer regains his aim and fires a bolt of plasma at you.
Nidal
"It's not a Molotov; it's called a Rainbow Cocktail," the trader said while emerging from the back of his stall with a double-barreled shotgun in hoof. "Here, take another one if it helps beat those bastards." He slips you another bottle.
Dichromate
Your Rainbow Cocktail hits the Enforcer on the right but it dealt splash damage, hitting the other two Enforcers. Though not invulnerable to fire attacks, their armor made them resistant to most fire attacks. In the end, they suffered only singed armor.
"Get that pyromaniac! I want him dead!" the middle Enforcer shouted.
Sunrise
"What about the Hierarchy? They've done so much for us and because of them, my family has better living standards compared to those that support the New Canterlot Government...I...I do believe that the NCG is the legitimate government but the world left them behind long ago."
He looks towards you and said something you will never forget. "The Hierarchy is the new world order now. Old things die and the next generation takes over. It has always been that way since the dawn of time. I for one believe that the Hierarchy will be the one that brings us the peace and harmony that our kind has long lost since the Adonis Impact."
"Same thing. It's a fiery boom." She took the cocktail and flew up to low altitude and dashed towards the command station she had seen earlier on. She stayed close to the ground and attempted to dodge any attack that came her way.
(I'm guessing flak, but I don't know if they can fire [or if they would fire] at a low altitude target with the city behind her.)
"Wow, that was rather useless," commented Dichromate as the Enforcer ponies regained their composure. Now what? The smoke from the burning command outpost was starting to mix with the smokescreen he had created a few seconds earlier, not to mention the fire that was already there, and the fireballs that were now spreading. The air was choked with smoke, and soon the Enforcer were no more than shadowy figures in a black cloud of haze. Dichromate couldn't even see the burning outpost anymore, although he knew it should be somewhere in front of him.
Take advantage of the smoke, you fool, and RUN! Your fire ain't gonna help you against these guys. Dichromate made a run for it, dodging in and out of the smoke cloud, but his sense of direction was no better than anypony else's. Where the buck am I going? He was sure he was going southwards, back towards the security station where he saw Sunrise being dragged into, but he couldn't even be sure anymore. He bumped into a building, and jumped back with a yelp of pain as embers singed him. To his dismay, he realized that not only was he nowhere near the station, he had somehow ended up at the outpost. Which meant the Enforcers must be right behind him, if they hadn't moved. He had no time to think of anything else to do-he ran into the burning outpost.
~~~

"But," protested Sunrise. "Look at the citizens. The ponies that the Heiarchy are supposed to protect. They're rebelling-they HATE the government. There's no peace and harmony if everypony who would've been there to enjoy it is dead! They support the Canterlot government, and they'll die to protect their interests. You can't possibly be willing to throw your life away to subdue the very citizens the Heirachy is supposed to protect. They could be your friends, your family for all you know." She ducked as another bullet whizzed through the broken window.

Flying low to avoid the anti-air fire, you light the the Rainbow Cocktail with a lighter. As you approach the command outpost, you drop the cocktail at just about the right moment so it hits the entrance. The fire engulfs the command post and you see several ponies run out from the command post, screaming in pain as the intense fire burns them alive. A gas canister located next to the command post explodes as the flames burn it too, causing it to knock down the communications tower. That should keep them from calling for reinforcements for the time being. Now to deal with the anti-aircraft guns. The settlers can use the extra firepower to defend their settlement so it's good if you just defeat the gunners and leave the gun intact. There are four flak cannons located at each corner of the settlement.

Dichromate

A stray bullet nearly hit you as you run towards the burning outpost. The dense smoke prevents you from being seen by the Enforcers as you brush past them. The burning outpost is nearly engulfed by flames save for one room which you accessed via an open window. The room's entrance is on fire and you quickly realize you're in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's an armory and if the flames reach the ammunition stockpile, it will cause a catastrophic explosion. To make matters worse, the Hierarchy also had tanks of processed magical energy stored near the entrance. These silver cylindrical steel tanks of processed magical energy are safe for unicorn use to recharge their magical powers and to power energy weapons. However, exposing it to explosives or fire hazards can cause them to explode and contaminate an area with magical radiation, or M-Rad.

You also notice several documents left on the wooden table. You are not sure what they are about but it seems important enough to warrant being labeled as "Eyes Only".

Tasks (optional)

>Move the Mana Tanks away from harm

>Retrieve the documents

>Search weapons and ammunition stockpiles

Sunrise

"I understand your concern...but...think about it. Without law and order, there is no peace and harmony. For too long, we've been in the dark ages, barely advancing. Until the Hierarchy came along, we've led nomadic lives, living as bands of raiders looking for means to survive, living underground like moles. Now, we have what we need to live. Look at Manehatten. If it weren't for the Hierarchy, it can never become a place of opportunity. Harsh are their methods...but we owe the Hierarchy something. Look at the East. Ponies are still living underground, thinking that the surface is still a radioactive-filled wasteland. The Brotherhood and Legions are still fighting for the Canterlot throne and the New Canterlot Government ain't doing a thing to stop those two from bickering. I'm tired of all their politicking and incessant bickering. The day I would return my allegiance to the NCG is the day I see Equestria united under one banner; not multiple banners from parties who can't agree on a single thing."

Absolon

Your cover is slowly being shot to pieces. You move from one hiding spot to the other, waiting for an opportunity to strike back. Just then, a grenade lands in front of the Enforcer that is attacking you. Before he could react, the grenade exploded and sends him flying backwards into a building. There is little shrapnel from the resulting explosion and you assume that it was a concussion grenade that exploded.

"Absolon, over here!" someone yells to you.

You look around and sees your friend, Oak Mead, waving at you from behind a wooden barricade. Behind him are several rebel youths armed with shotguns and rifles. You make a break for it.

Seeing as they're still flak guns and she's still an airborne fighter, Nidal stays near the surface. She flies towards the nearest flak gun, scanning for guards that might fire upon her.

Dichromate scowled. I'd rather not get blown to bloody bits. Quickly dashing over to the tanks, he moved them away from the fire, and from the window as well (just in case). He eyed the documents when he was done, and reached out a hoof to take a look.

(This is going to turn into a political debate, isn't it? :S)

"But you have to give them a chance," pleaded Sunrise. "The only reason there's bickering at all is because of the free will of the ponies involved. Yeah, politics are stupid," she added. "But they represents the freedom of choice. Whereas the Heiarchy just kills anyone who opposes it. Harsh is an understatement, they're reducing ponies to little more than workdogs. Some of the privileged few might see some glory, but the majority of the citizens here don't like it one bit. At the very least...you can choose your destiny in the NCG."

Absolon

"Glad to see you're still alive, chap. The Hierarchy aren't going down easily and the weapons these youths are carrying aren't strong enough to penetrate Hierarchy power armor. Our plan now is to kill any Hierarchy we see and secure freedom for this settlement. There is a Hierarchy outpost somewhere at the north end of the settlement and inside that outpost are better weapons. Perhaps you can help arm these fighters with better weapons, we may still have a chance of winning. Here, take this healing powder I looted from one of the dead Enforcers."

[Healing Powder]

HP Recover: 10 HP for 3 seconds

Nidal

You near one of the flak cannons but the gunners are expecting you. To your surprise, the gunners aren't Hierarchy Enforcers. Instead, the guns are manned by three young Earth pony conscripts. They barely have any armor on them save for a steel helmet and simple steel body armor resembling Royal Guard armor from the pre-Adonis era. One of them tries to shoot you with a laser pistol but his aim was so bad that the shots he fires are clean misses. You approach the shooter and snatch his pistol.

((Your chance to introduce your character here))

Dichromate

With the tanks away from the fire, you read the documents. To your dismay, you find that the document is written in Hierarchical Runes, the official written language of the Hierarchy Senate. You do not understand a word but that only means that the document has to be very important. It is best to keep the documents and find somepony who can understand Hierarchical Runes. To keep the invading fire from the mana tanks, you lift them up with your telekinesis spell and throw them out the window. You also search the armory for usable things.

You find a lot of good armor but you still do not have any experience in using any of them yet. You also find weapons but all of them are mounted weapons - weapons that are mounted on suit hardpoints and not meant to be carried like a normal weapon.

Sunrise

The guard nods his head slowly. While he contemplates your words, three rebels enters the security station, looking for Enforcers to kill.

"There's one behind that file cabinet!" one of them shouted.

He stands on his hind legs, raises his shotgun and takes aim at the Enforcer. You see him wobble a bit as he tries to stay balanced while maintaining his aim at the Enforcer. Instead of powering up his weapon, the Enforcer just stood there. Will you try and stop the rebels from killing the Enforcer?

[Morale]

Rebels: 72

Hierarchy: 85

[Reinforcements]

Rebels: 160 left

Hierarchy: 89 left

Nidal fired Rook three times, taking out two of the three guards. The last one had rosen a shield just in time to deflect the bullet. Seeing her bullets do nothing to the shield, she holstered the gun and charged him instead, getting past the shield with her superior speed. One lead pipe to the head later, the earth pony conscript was on the ground unconscious.

Knowing that it would be too hard to go to each gun seperately, Nidal used the first flak gun and began to fire at one of the other ones.
