open XCOM: Equestria (Action)

You are standing in the middle of a vast mission control room, in the center is a green unicorn with a monitor for a  cutie mark who begins to speak to you, "One day, the ponies of Equestria got good news and bad news at the same time. The good news was that there was life on other planets, the bad news was they weren't friendly. In light of the present threat to the world, the Princesses decided a new method of combating the problem was called for. They called for a team to be created from experts of all walks of life, and called it Extraterrestrial Combat, or XCOM for short. New technologies were developed, and the team was assembled. You are that team. You are Equestria's first and last line of defense. I'm Central officer End Game, callsign 'Central', and I'll be your handler and guide here in Mission Control. I'll leave you time to get to know each other, but you could be called to deploy at any moment." He returns to staring at the large holographic map in the center, showing all of Equestria.

Guardian sat in the barrack room checking and rechecking his machine gun. He wore the standard XCOM armor but his helmet was black with a blood red glass reflected visor in the shape of a V. After his final look over, he went to the control room to meet End Game and to see if he can find his squad mates.

Unlike his current peers, Thunder King wasn't standing at attention or triple checking his shiny new gun. If he couldn't trust his rifle to remain in optimal working condition in the two minutes after he had placed it in the armory inside their own base of operations, then there was clearly something seriously wrong with the world. He did have a very simple helmet black helmet that covered his head with his face viable due to the clear, bullet resistant glass that made up the visor, but it was currently clipped to the belt of his brand new XCOM armor.

Once the warm welcome to the XCOM program was completed and they had appeared to be dismissed so that they could do their own things, Thunder had taken the time to learn the lay of the land as it were and explore his new home for the foreseeable future. This had led him to what appeared to be a cafeteria and the cup of coffee that was currently in his hoof as he offered a pretty purple unicorn mare in a lab coat who appeared to be on a coffee break a friendly smile. "I'm sorry to bother you Ms, but I'm rather new here and I don't really know my way around all that well yet. Would you mind telling me where the Barracks are?" Seemly just remembering himself, he offered her a coffee cup free hoof before introducing himself as "Rookie Thunder King, at your service Ms."

If command needed him for a mission, he would sure as little grey aliens were invading them be among the first ponies to hear the call.

Reever finished talking with end game and decided to head to the barracks to see what the rest of his squad was up to and who they where for that matter reever made his way to the barracks when he got there he sat on his bed and opened a holo projector on his wrist reevers own design and flipped through the xcom database "well..... I'm bored as hell when I took this job I expected more shooting and me getting to blast aliens in the face but eh" reever said with a sigh

A middle-aged earth pony mare sat alone in the cafeteria room, eating a ration of bean soup and crackers. She was dressed in typical military clothing...of what seemed to be several decades before. Tundra terrain-camouflage military shirt and pants, black hat with an insignia on the front, ceremonial sword, and a holster of a service pistol used by the pre-XCOM military. She didn't quite fit in, yet she has for nearly two decades.

Cpt. Blockade had no interest with wearing unnecessarily futuristic armor. She doubted it'll protect them against anything; the damn aliens were going to shoot it like it's nothing but paper, anyway. It was utterly useless, and Blockade figured that she might as well go with the standard military clothing because it didn't matter.

The same went for the guns. A bullet was a bullet; she didn't need any complex firing device or target detector. She could shoot just as fine with a sniper. Her higher subordinate accused her of being too old-fashioned; Blockade thought they were being too impractical. One kind of assault rifle lasted for at least a century, and no one said anything about that.

She was one of the few officers that stayed in combat rather than command. Incidentally, she couldn't give the commands; only the Central officer and Colonels could do that. At most she controlled a platoon. But Blockade was like every soldier on this camp. At least she didn't need to wear that uncomfortable and useless XCOM armor.

And she was here to save the pony race, not kill aliens. If she needed to sacrifice and kill a few privates to maintain something bigger at stake, she would do it. She had done it ever since she was promoted to captain in the XCOM army, and Blockade did her best not to befriend anyone lower than her. She needed to make them obedient, and she had seen several of them die on the battlefield. At least they were there to do something big.

Blockade rolled her eyes. There was one in every rookie...she needed to deal with this one. She tensed a bit, then slammed down her bowl. "First of all, it's 'Captain Blockade, ma'am'," Blockade said sternly, raising her voice. "If you refuse to greet me correctly, I will see that as an act of disrespect to your higher authority, and will deny your request. I believe you're a newcomer to this camp, so I will let you off just this once. Next time, it won't be so easy."

"Second, we're not here to kill aliens. If you want to shoot at things, then go to a hunting club, not the army." she shouted loudly. "The XCOM doesn't take lazy soldiers like you who have no intention to serve their country. It's simple: do what the Central Command tells you to do, and follow what everyone else does. If you have any other questions, tell that to the your squad's lieutenant. Now leave."

Blockade put her hoof on her head. What did they think this was, a shooting field? Of course, every day she had to look at these soldiers...

A siren begins to drone throughout the complex, "Alien activity detected, intercept was successful. All response units please report to the Situation Room for briefing and deployment, Thank You. The War Clock has been reset."

Blockade sighed. Were the drill sergeants even picking the right soldiers to enter XCOM these days? She would have discharged him if she had the power to, but her thoughts were interrupted by the siren sound. All right, thankfully I don't have to deal with this scoundrel...

She was ahead of her squad, being one of the firsts to get into the Situation Room. Blockade stood behind the chair to the large computer screen's right, next to a lieutenant colonel, and saluted, saying: "Captain Blockade, reporting for duty and awaiting orders, sir."

As the alarm started to sound and interrupting the conversation before it even had the chance to truly get going, Thunder merely clicked his tongue in annoyance before offering the mare he had been attempting to strike up a conversation with an apologetic smile. "Sorry to cut this off so soon, but duty calls Ms. Maybe another time." was all he could really say as he bolted towards and out the door before slowing to a more sustainable jogging pace.

Arriving at the Situation Room in good time, the Rookie quickly fell in line and stood at attention, plans to visit the armory on the way to the hanger already processed and approved in his head as he waited to hear the mission details.

End Game looks the group over and sighs, "Look, I don't care what you were where you came from, or how good of a shot you think you are, you're all new to the XCOM program, and you will be treated as such. Wear armor or don't, but you are all assigned rifles for this op. We have a single medkit that someone may take instead of a grenade if they wish, but that's all we have to offer in terms of gear. We're just getting started ourselves. Today's op will be in Ponyville, so keep your eyes open and make sure that you stay safe, we need all the soldiers we can get. Move to the Skyranger, it'll take you to the AO." The situation room opens to a hangar, where a large transport vehicle stands, waiting on its passengers.

Thunder King didn't show any desire to back talk or bring attention to himself as he stood at attention during the pre-briefing. Once they were given their marching orders, all he said was "Sir yes Sir!" before he took off for the armory between them and the Skyranger. The stop off was short and to the point, gaining his rifle and double checking his pistol before selecting what appeared to be the medkit that had been offered instead of the small balls of metal death known as a grenade.

While this slight detour might have meant that he wasn't the first to arrive at the Skyranger, once he did he respectfully nodded his head at his fellow teammates before taking his seat and strapping in. While he had never been to Ponyville before, the fact that it was the home of the former model Fluttershy made him predisposed to liking the place enough not to see it burned to the ground.

"Wait! Waaaiiit!" Splicer jumped onto the Skyranger before they could depart, almost falling flat on his face in the process.

Splicer was a considerably young stallion, probably in his early 20's, but he was decently built and was fit enough for the job.

He put strapped himself into the chair with his magic and waited impatiently for them to take off.

"Augh, when are we gonna GO?" He swapped a clip in his pistol with another in boredom, tapping his hoof to the metal floor of the Skyranger at an irregularly fast pace.

@@TheYoungestBrony,

Turning his head to watch the somewhat unprofessional stallion enter the Skyranger, Thunder frowned a little at the unicorn in question due not only to the way he seemed to have been wailing like a desperate teenager pleading with the universe to try and get the ride to school to stop for him, but also to the inpatient boredom that he was openly displaying almost as soon as he was buckled in. He could already tell he wasn't going to get along well with the guy. "Calm down. It's not like you're waiting in line at the circus here." He chastised, the idea of anyone being eager to go into Luna only knows how bad a situation they were traveling being almost as alien to him as those who were soon to be shooting at them.

"Well sor-ry, mine aswell get this over with when we can." Splicer managed to contain himself and sat there looking as professional as he could. Maybe he should calm down a bit, seems that these ponies are fairly serious. He put the pistol in its holster with his magic and he remembered that out there, in the field, you could die any time and so could anyone else. This brought back unwelcome memories of his father so he tried not to think about it. He looked at the other ponies around him and sat back for the ride.

Blockade didn't feel the need to use the XCOM service rifles or pistols; she was never used to unusual weapons. Instead, she brought her own. After all, she loved her guns, and it was irreplaceable to her.

She had listened to the mission details, and recalled the last time she went to Ponyville. That was more than a decade ago. Blockade had wondered if it was same as before, unchanged. The ponies there must have evacuated, and the last thing Blockade wanted to happen was to see it demolished and fail her first mission.

Blockade waited inside the Skyranger, sitting down, bored. She was a fairly quick pony, and so when she got there, only a few ponies were in the Skyranger; most seats were empty. There was that pegasus stallion on the opposite side. Another young stallion came in, and she decided to simply sleep. Blockade had enough with these soldiers, maybe she needed a little rest.

@,

The trip itself hadn't been all that bad all things consider. Oh sure, the knowledge that they were flying towards a hostile makeshift warzone against enemies that were armed with things that outweighed their firepower by leaps and bounds hung in the atmosphere of the Skyranger but the physical side of the ride was rather nice, if somewhat quiet.

Once the Skyranger touched down on the ground and the back started to open, Thunder gave his weapon a last minute check up to ensure the part of his mind that worried about such things that it was in working order before darting out of flying machine with brave caution, his gun raised as he swept it across his field of vision. Spotting nothing, he flicked his comm on before saying "This is Thunder, going up." To the rest of the squad before flapping his wings and raising off the ground, flying as quickly as possible towards the nearest rooftop in order to give himself a better field of vision as well as a higher position. He couldn't do his job as a medic unless someone was injured and the best way to avoid that was to find the enemy first. Once he was on the rooftop, he made damn sure there was nothing up here with him that wasn't meant to be before trying to spot or hear signs of enemy activity.

Guardian was the next out of the Skyranger. He looked for a decent spot to set up a defensive hold so that the rest of the team can get out safely. In case the enemy decides to show itself. He spots a stone fence that is half his height. He quickly runs over to it and places his LMG along the top to give himself better accuracy. "This is Guardian, I'm in position." he radioed to his squad mates.

(Seriously? Radioed is a word?)

For the whole trip, Blockade's world was limited to the sound of the rumbling and rattling of the Skyranger, the group of soldiers, and nothing more than the Skyranger itself. A few ponies were quietly whispering to each other, while one was checking his gun. Blockade herself was silently unfolding the stock of her rifle, adjusting the scope, and loading her magazine. She also pulled back the pistol as well, loading it and placing it on her holster.

When the Skyranger finally touched down, Blockade ran for an empty building while checking for hostiles. Detecting none, Blockade proceeded on, taking out her rifle, holding it in the aiming position with her left eye staring at the magnifying scope, and her left hoof gripping right on top of the trigger. Her right vacant hoof was feeling the atmosphere outside.

No wind to interfere with bullet trajectory. Good. She moved her hoof to the radio, and declared, "Blockade, awaiting orders."
