Back Track was on his way back home to his apartment from classes. The stallion had carried his saddlebags full of books and tech. Though there was this one store that he wanted to try out. They had built it about a year ago and it was a new book store. Near the corner of 152nd NW street, which it was constructed on. It was called, "The Enchanted Bookstore".

 

The unicorn had entered the construct which seemed like an unusual. There wasn't even a cafe or anything. Just old books, new books, textbooks, etc.  Canterlot usually had plenty of cafe's yet this one didn't.

 

"Bummer, guess I'll just buy an espresso somewhere else," He said to himself quietly as he examined the aisles.

 

There was a wall sign that said, "Some books are truly enchanted". Obviously a crappy marketplace strategy he chuckled to himself.

Sweetie Pie wa s taking her usual "before work ended" naps. Because the store was mostly empty all day everyday Sweetie got to take 5 naps each time she worked this was in preparation for her night job, as she slept she dreamed of owning her own store with lots of customers and plenty of window space and a huge sign with her name on it. In her dream she was just about to open shop and let the mob of customers in when *ding* went the bell over the door of the shop she had forgotten she was actually working at.

"A customer?" She thought, "but nopony hardly ever comes into the store anymore" and she found herself almost forgetting what she was supposed to do so she just sat upright behind the counter and waited for somepony to ask for her help.

Back Track had gone through aisle and aisle until one book that caught his eye. Alternate History section of the book store. It was about the three tribes or rather kingdoms than tribes. This book looked old and dusty, but interesting. The book was called, "Clash of the Kingdoms". 

 

"Something to read I guess," He said before approaching the counter. The unicorn caught a glimpse of the mare behind the counter. She was an earth pony, but with style. The earth mare had a beautiful magenta mane and her eyes were like green gems. Clearly, this unicorn was more than nervous being around her. Back Track put the book on the counter and immediately grabbed some bits as way to avoid eye contact.

When the mistery customer finaly appeared Sweetie was ready for him beaming her work smile and watching the unicorn set the book down on the counter.

"Will that be all for tonight?" Just then the book flapped open to a random page with a resounding boom making Sweetie jump a little letting out a small eep! Her eyes going wide, as the dust settles she coughed slightly.

The unicorn had dropped his small bag of bits but, it was weird how the book opened up. Back Track soon narrowed his eyes at a line of text. Though it was vertical on the side of the page rather than horizontal which was weird for any book. 

 

"War comes at a price," He said before a blinding light appeared from the book and then a portal. It was unlike anything he'd seen before being pulled into the book.

 

The next thing he knew he heard a loud thud and passed out.

Sweetie opened her eyes rubbing her head with one hoof, "ow! Where am I?" She felt dirt beneath her and heard the chirping of birds. Her eyes snapped open her head jerking to look around her she was in some kind of forest but a minute ago she was in the city, how could she be in the middlr of a forest?

Then she spotted him the unicorn that was in the shop with her. His eyes were closed and he looked very much dead, she poked him.

"H-hey.... hey you."

The stallion began to gain consciousness and not just from hearing outside noises, but from somepony poking him. 

 

"Five more minutes mom," He mumbled still dazed from the impact. Though the unicorn soon began to realize that he wasn't laying on a bed and he definitely wasn't inside due to the birds chirping. Back Track sat up and took in his surroundings. He was bewildered by where he was. He remembered being at a bookstore and now he was here.

 

"Where am I?" He asked before noticing the mare from the shop as well.

 

"Oh, sorry didn't see you there. Ummm where are we? I could have sworn I was in Canterlot a few minutes ago." He stated before looking over the surroundings again. This forest definitely wasn't the Everfree Forest otherwise they'd be under attack right now.

"I'm not entirely sure either," they were on the slope of a very tall hill, she gazed over the hill going through her mind all the rational possibilities that could have happened. 13 reasons came to mind 3 were likely but only 2 were realistic, and 1 meant she couldn't trust the pony she had woken up with.

"I can see smoke over there," she pointed with one hoof at a billowing cloud that disappeared into the trees about a mile off. "maybe there'll be a factory over there."

she then began to trot toward the smoke the night star twinkling above them both.

"H-Hey, wait up!" He said, pursuing the mare before finally catching up to her. Even if it was a small distance, it was quite obvious that he was definitely not the athletic type of stallion.

 

"So, what's your name?" Back Track asked the mare. It was a little direct for him to even ask flat out then again he wasn't one for subtlety.
