It was a cold, dark evening in Ponyville. There were a few tired, shivering ponies out on the street who had some last-minute business to finish. They were eager to complete their remaining tasks, return to their families, and retreat to the warm shelter that was their home. 

 

For one mare though, she didn't have a home to go to or a family waiting for her. They're much too far away for that. And she had very important business to do and many ponies to meet. At a coffee shop of all places.

 

Star-chan, North-chan, I hope you two won't be late. Her two friends still had some preparations to make, so the mare, Kanon, was going to be the first arrival. With that thought in mind, she scanned the shops until she found the coffee shop that her friends, the volunteers, and she were to meet at. "Ah, here we go," Kanon said to herself in her Neighponese accent before coming in.

 

The shop was empty except for one exhausted worker. It wasn't the most popular place to go at this time and that was why they chose this location. A lot of the chairs have already been stacked up except for one big table with many chairs. They had let the shop owner know ahead of time that she and many others would be here. It took many well-chosen words and her own charm to convince him to let them come.

 

Well, my friends will be thirsty and we won't get luxuries like this for a while, so I'd better get them something. She ordered fruit juice for North Shine, mocha for Star Rain, and bottled tea for herself and sat down herself, her bags of supplies, and what appeared to be a long, harmless stick at the reserved table. She adjusted her scarf(which concealed her family crest) and prepared to meet them.

It wasn't all that hard to have his vice president set up to run the company for a little while, a fact that Myopia was more than happy to discover for himself. After all the time and effort he had put into making Theed Co a success in Manehatten he felt he had more then earned a vacation before he made the push to spread the company Equestria wide. Requests for his products were already coming in from the other major cities so he knew it was the next logical step.

 

Despite the dark clouds above, Myopia couldn't help but smile as he walked through the streets of Ponyville at just how far a colt from the streets could come if he really pushed himself to succeed.

 

Glancing at his note again, he looked up at the different shop names until he found the one he was looking for. Dressed in his green coat and wearing his standard top hat, the unicorn took the time to wipe his shoes on the doormat before opening the door and entering. As his hooves touched the floor, there was a metal sound to his steps as he approuched the only table still set up with a rather beautiful mare sitting and waiting already. Removing his hat to be polite, he simply asked "Pardon me, but are you one of the three whom sent me an invitation to your little expedition?" He already suspected she was, but it didn't hurt to ask for introductions sake.

Kanon was in the process of opening her bottle when she heard the door open. She was surprised to see such a well-dressed gentle colt here for the expedition. Having been around nobles and rich business ponies for a good part of her life, it was always a surprise to see one willing to get their hooves dirty. Then again, she was the former heir to the vast majority of her family's fortune and she's on this trip as well.

 

"Why yes I am," she said with a smile. She bowed(as was the tradition when greeting some pony in her country) as she introduced herself. "My name is Kanon. Pleased to meet you." There was a pause before she said that last line, because she almost said,"Yoroshiku onegai shimasu."

Smiling as he was proven correct with his assumption, the unicorn returned her bow with one of his own as he simply introduced himself as "Myopia Oncler, at your service. It is a pleasure to meet you Lady Kanon." Righting himself once the introduction was over, he calmly walked towards the table and politely pulled out the chair that she had been nearest to before politely offering it to the lady. "I must admit that I found the idea of what you are looking for rather intriguing, but I'm sure we can save business until everypony gets here. Will the companions Star Rain and North Shine be joining us, or are will we be meeting them later on? " He asked politely.

Noble Persona had gone over the letter three times. He'd almost assumed it to be a prank, but on the off-chance that it wasn't, he and his right hand mare had accepted this open invitation. He thought about it on the train to Ponyville and on the only carriage they could get at this time of night.

 

"What do you think, Ice? Do you think it's a hoax? Or could they be genuine and just possessed of bad timing?" He asked, addressing the plain-looking mare sitting across from him.

Kinetic Energy had to admit he was excited when he received the letter. He didn't have a clue what he would wish for yet, though he did want a chance to take a look at the scroll, maybe examine it and find out its magical properties.

 

He didn't plan on getting lost, though. He'd only rarely been to Ponyville and every street looked the same. He'd passed the same shop three times before ending up at the correct location. Fortunately, it seemed everypony else was still on their way as well.

 

"Good evening, everypony. I was wondering if you might be able to help me. I'm looking for a pony by the name of Kanon." He asked as he entered the shop.

Monkshood wandered through the streets of Ponyville. His saddlebags rattled and clinked within the night breeze as he thought about how good the crispness of the wind felt on his fur. It reminded him of his travels, and the wilderness surrounding the towns he oft visited. Normally, he would be looking for shelter from the encroaching night at around this time, but a business prospect beckoned.

 

Tilting his head, he stopped for a minute, and pulled a dirt smeared piece of parchment out of one of his saddlebags. It described a quest to find a mysterious scroll said to grant anypony a single wish. In addition, it said for him, and whoever else, to meet up at small coffee shop in town if interested. Monkshood sighed as he thought back to the night he had arrived in Ponyville, a couple days back. He had just checked in to the local inn, when a small envelope, containing the note, slid underneath his door. He been in town for nary a few hours, yet apparently he had already caught the attention of somepony. Normally, such expeditions were generally out of his purview, but business had been much too slow for him lately.

 

Monkshood scanned the street looking for the coffee shop that the letter described. He soon found it, though looked like it was getting ready to shut down for the night. Regardless, he trotted up to the entrance and opened the door. It appeared that a few other ponies had already arrived. They were chatting it up, but he couldn't stand to introduce himself currently. Instead, he ignored them and walked up to the counter.

 

"Could I get a cup of hot water" Monkshood paused for a moment as he turned his head, and grabbed a small pouch out of his bag. The pouch gave off a sweet spiced aroma. "Also could I get this mixed into it", he told the employee in a dull tone. The worker was clearly not impressed, but complied anyway. Taking his drink, he found a spot at the table. It was distanced far enough away from anypony else for his own comfort.

'Ice'

 

Ice stopped examining the cart and returned her attention to Noble, confident that it wasn't bugged or trapped magically or otherwise. "No Sir it doesn't appear to be a hoax, the mares in charge of this expedition seem quite serious. Not only are where not the only ones to be sent a letter but it would seem that they are sending out to mercenaries, mages, and businessponies, likely to use as muscle, magic, and funding. I anticipate that you where called to lend your own funds to this expedition in return for the 'thrill'... In addition my own sources confirm their findings, they aren't lieing Sir."

"They will be joining us, but they still have things to prepare. Knowing those two, North-chan will be here before Star-chan," Kanon said with a laugh, forgetting to drop the honorifics. Her ears twitched at the sound of the door opening again and she tightened her scarf, which revealed a little bit of her family's crest for a split second. "Oh, here comes some more," she exclaimed cheerfully.

"You may be looking for me," she said, raising her voice to make herself heard. She didn't notice the third stallion who had also walked in.

A light blue pegasus flew by the carriage, almost as if in a hurry. That Star, being slow 'n all! How come she just can't teleport?!

Noticing the blur go buy Ice blinks outside of the carriage and inspects their surroundings, believing that any pegisis flying that fast and low so close to a carriage is an attacker... Only to find a distinct lack of ambushers. Faintly embarrassed even though it doesn't show in her voice or expression she  teleports back inside the carriage. "Nevermind that Sir just a late night flyer apparently."  *'A suicidal one judging by their speed...'*

Noble leaned back in his seat. "I'd say that's one of our clients. Driver, double time, if you please. I'm more than happy to pay extra." He said, rapping on the side of the carriage. The scenery went by slightly faster. "Hmm... I'd have to see this scroll for myself before deciding if it's worth making a wish. Still they went to the trouble of inviting us. It's only fair that we accept, even if they could've chosen a better time of day."

The formally dressed business unicorn nodded his head in understanding as he moved to take a chair different from the one he had pulled out for the lovely lady and sit down, waiting to see who showed up and to get business underway.

Thunder

 

As he darted through the mostly abandoned streets of Ponyville, Thunder was muttering under his breath to himself in a rather heated fashion.  He understood the fact that most of the weather team hadn't shown up because they had the flu (Some of them at least. Rainbow Dash had voiced her suspicions that some of them were just calling in sick and Thunder had to agree with her) but the timing was just really inconvenient.

 

Finding the coffee shop the note said they were all meant to meet at, the gray Pegasus hovered in the air in front of the door for a moment before opening it and coming to a landing inside. He didn't waste time walking to the counter and asking the coffee mare "A large, black coffee please."

After settling back into her seat she returns her attention to Noble. "It is possible Sir, one of our clients is a light blue pegisis named North Shine... And while its polite to at least answer their call, i believe that we should see what they have in mind before we just accept."

Wind Symphony.

 

Typical.

 

She had known from the writing that it was going to be from some jumped up noble - or some other pony who considered themselves 'superior' to others - but she almost failed to hide her disgust as the door swung closed behind her.

 

'Don't the rich ones usually sit around sipping their drinks while others do the hard work for them?' She muttered mentally as she paused to assume her identity before announcing her presence:

 

Wind Sonnet.

 

"Good evening Gentlecolts..." Said the mare as she stepped towards the table with what might even be mistaken for a regal look about her: nothing could be further from the truth but nobility had always been an act that she had been good at - not to mention one that she enjoyed, despite the company that it entailed.

 

She ruffled her crystalline feathers as if cold, concealing the blackened patch as she did, and looked about the gathering with genuine interest.

 

"Wind Sonnet - I received your letter and was... intrigued, to say the least." She claimed in a soft, sweet voice that she hated and loved at the same time. "Naturally I couldn't decline."

"I'm Kanon, thanks for coming," she greeted the stallion with a smile, along with her bow. "My two friends will be arriving shortly, but please take a seat. I won't be starting without them." She moved her supplies and long stick away from the table, but she pushed her friends' drinks together so that they don't get mixed up with somepony else's.

The coffee mare nodded and began to make Thunder's coffee. While doing so, she casually asked,"Are you one of the 'volunteers' that unicorn and earth pony mare mentioned when they came over a couple days ago?"

 

Kanon turned to Myopia and Kinetic and in an encouraging voice, said,"You should start at least getting to know each other and the others when they arrive, along with my two friends. Just a warning though, Star Rain is going to be a biiiit tougher to get to know. Just saying!" She gave a laugh at that last statement.

Kanon turned to the next arrival and a brief look of surprise flickered on her face for a split second. Except for photos from North Shine's travels to the Crystal Empire, she had never seen a Crystal Pony before. However, her surprise was replaced by unseen fear. She felt somewhat threatened by her and way she carried herself.

 

Nonetheless, she put her smile on and introduced herself. "My name is Kanon, pleased to meet you," she said with the same friendly tone.

Everypony seems to be ignoring the other part of the letter. And why are there ponies like Myopia here? Didn't Star say that there would be traveling and possibly even combat along the way in our letter?

 

At that moment, the light blue pegasus she knew all too well came in. "Ah! It looks like North Shine is here!", she said to everypony. North took a few flying leaps forward and bowed to Kanon, who bowed back. "Konnichiwa, Kanon!" she teased in greeting, setting a large bag of supplies down along with a small pull string bag that made a metallic sound. Her wings also had a strange, steel edge to them that seemed very sharp.

"Is Star Rain alright?" Kanon asked North. "Yeah, just being slow as usual," North said impatiently. Her sharp eye then picked out the lone stallion. She immediately trotted over to him and was careful not to open her wings up next to him. "Hey, are you here for the mission?"

Thunder offered the mare a polite smile as he answered "I'm not sure yet. I wanted to take the time to hear them out before deciding one way or another. What about you? I'm sure you're only here because we are, but I'm sure you'll get to listen in and make up your mind if you want to sign up or not." the pegasus asked respectfully. It was always a good idea to be respectful to those who made or served food or other such items. 

 

Myopia took a moment  to look at the the stallion that Kanon had more or less recommended for him to introduce himself to and still sitting he politely bowed his head to him. "Myopia Oncler, a pleasure to meet you sir."

Turning his attention towards the new comer, Myopia was a little surprised to see a crystal pony of all things in Ponyville. The fact that she seemed to talking to him first and foremost gave Myopia the impression that she believed that he was the one in charge of this little get together. Offering her a polite smile, he calmly shook his head a little as he stood up and offered the lady a respectful bow "Myopia Oncler, it is a pleasure to meet you Lady Sonnet. However, if you are looking to introduce yourself to one of our hosts for this evening, the lovely Lady Kanon is the mare you should be speaking to." Beckoning towards the mare in question who had come over to introduce herself and having said his piece for the moment, Myopia sat back down.

North Shine overheard Myopia call her friend "The lovely Lady Kanon" and snickered, which quickly turned into outright laughter. "Geez Kanon! Worked your magic already?!" she laughed, hovering in the air for a moment, which revealed the blades on her wings for a moment.

 

Kanon naturally didn't take too kindly to that. "Well it is not like I did it on purpose, North-chan!" she yelled. Che' her and her fruit bat hearing! She then remembered the fruit juice she had bought for her. "Oh by the way North-chan, I got you some fruit juice!" If this were anime though, there would be a large sweat drop at her head, because North Shine had gone back to pestering the stallion who was sitting alone.

 

To Thunder, the coffee mare said,"I don't know about those three. The unicorn seemed a little cold and aloof when I saw her and the earth pony looked a little strange. She even had this weird accent like she had never learned to speak properly!"

Dorado

 

'Ay diosas mio...' 

 

The handsome stallion in the gilded armor said mentally. 'Why did we have to meet in Ponyville? What a stupid village. Bunch of farm folk they all are. Although...' He glanced over at a couple mares speaking to each other. 'They certainly don't have bad looking mares around here.' A smile appeared on his face.  He was strolling down the street, keeping his head up high and acting as if he was royalty, and looking for the coffee shop they all were supposed to meet at.

 

Ever since he moved away from his home country of Espoña, (Pony equivalent of España, or Spain) he fancied adventure and money over all things. And Mares. Can't forget about that. He has traveled all over the world looking for fortune or fame. And also doing many other jobs no pony was willing to take, like stealing things, smuggling, or even taking bounties, all to get some bits in his bags. Though most of that wasn't in Equestria. Equestria was such a nice peaceful place, unlike other parts of the world. 

 

When he got the invitation to come on an expedition to find a wishing scroll of all things, he was delighted. He already knew exactly what he was going to wish for. However he knew it was going to dangerous. No doubt there would be competitors. Which is why he brought two of his favorite crossbows; his weapon of choice. Dorado was skilled in many forms of archery and ranged combat. Even his cutie mark was a bow and arrow. He had a smaller crossbow attached to one of his front legs and a larger, folded up one on his back. Along with some saddlebags and a sword in case he had to use melee. He also wore his favorite armor. It was similar to the armor of a royal guard aesthetically, but lighter, less bulky, yet less durable.

 

Eventually he found the coffee shop. He grinned as he smoothed back his luxurious silky mane and prepared to make an entrance. He then bursted open the front door, almost as if he kicked it open.

"No need to fret anymore my good ponies! For I, EL DORADO! Have arrived!" He said in his Espoñol (Spanish) accent.

 

The first thing he noticed were two mares in the room. One Crystal, and one Neighponese. Both Exotic. "Oh? What do we have here? The letter never said anything about two lovely young goddesses meeting with us." He said acting flirtatious. Then he proceed to take both their hooves, and kiss their hooves. All the while ignoring North Shine. 

 

(OOC: This outta be good. Also I only mentioned everyone since he made a big entrance but Dorado only spoke to Cinder's OC and Kanon.

Monkshood didn't take notice of the pegasus mare that had just approached him, but instead just relaxed in spot slowly nursing his drink. Though she still approached him, and apparently wanted to know why he was here. Unfazed by the question, he took a small sip as he savoured the flavours of the mixture before putting down his cup. His head shifted from his cup to towards the pegasus as he began looking over her with a quizzical glance. There was nothing out of the ordinary or inherently dangerous looking about this one. Sighing, he opened his mouth to speak. "Indeed, I am here for the job. If only to sate my current curiosity".

As North Shine was about to reply, she was startled by the grand entrance the next volunteer made and her bladed wings almost flared open. She saw the hoof-kissing scene and thought Great, now we have two Kanons. And one of them is male! Esponish it seems like. She had met many Esponish folk on her travels and none of them were this flashy and flirty.

 

She turned her attention back to the stallion and asked,"So yeah… uh, how come you aren't sitting with us? My friends aren't the most observant of ponies and they might leave you behind!"

 

When the hoof-kissing happened, Kanon was utterly shocked. It took a minute to compose herself and go about with her usual greeting. "My name is Kanon, anata  Ariwara no Narihira," she said, bowing and flirting back at him. 

 

(OOC: Kanon's last line translates into "you Casanova", Ariwara being Japan's equivalent of Casanova. Also, anata may translate into "you", but it's not a polite thing to say to a Japanese person(or to a person who understands the language to some extent.)

"Thank you, my dear." 'Sonnet' responded in that same, loathsomely sweet, airy voice as she turned to look towards the other mare with a slight curtesy.

 

She couldn't quite decide on what approach to take: playing the game properly meant that she needed to put on an act... and as the group continued to diversify she found herself considering more and more.

 

Thankfully, the grand entrance gave her pause for thought: she felt her hoof move and simply went with it: deciding to let her newest personality build itself. Innocent but sharp minded... something like that would suffice.

She gasped, flushing profusely and considering the mare beside her... was she playing the game too? Probably not.

 

She pushed the thoughts aside: they were distracting her from her character.

 

"Señor Dorado!" She exclaimed, holding her hoof in the air for a moment longer than necessary. "You'll make me blush!"

 

Loud, arrogant, brash... though not completely without appeal, she thought as she shied away - feigning embarrassment as she looked over the stallion with a keen eye as she made no effort to hide the crimson in her cheeks.

By the sound of the two Mare's responses, Dorado was confident he had already won them over. Be brushed back his mane again and took a look and the group of ponies around them before look back to Kanon. "My name is Dorado Oros Mercantil de Caballo, but tu may call me, El Dorado. And if you are Kanon, then that means you are my fair host. Might I say It is a pleasure meeting such a muy, muy bonita, very beautiful, exotic pony, such as myself. This is a very... odd group. Were you all waiting on Dorado? Mis disculpas, my apologies for being late. Or are we still waiting on somepony aún más tarde?"

He bowed to Myopia in return, though the grace of his gesture hinted that there may be more to him than first thought. "Delighted, sir."

 

This Dorado pony's entrance was decidedly over the top, but entertaining nonetheless. Kinetic watched the events that followed with great interest. He took a bag of sweets out of his coat pocket and offered some to Myopia. “Want one? They’re strawberry.”

"That's the invitation. They invited us to hear what they had to say. Trust me, Ice. I'm not so reckless to consider a business proposition without hearing the terms and conditions first. I wouldn’t be here if I was." Noble said gazing out the window as they reached their destination. "At last. Well, let's see what's going on."

Ice simply nods in acceptance. "As long as your ready Sir." She then gets out and inspects her surroundings, familiarizing herself with the area. She then moves to the entrance of the coffee shop, looks back at Noble, and states in a monotone voice. "After you Sir." Before opening the door and inspecting the ponies inside from the corner of her eye.

Noble stepped out of the carriage and handed the driver a bag of bits. He nodded to Ice and stepped inside, removing his black coat as he did so. “Saluti, everypony. I’m looking for either Star Rain, North Shine or Kanon. Are any of these ponies present?” He made no attempt to hide his arrogant tones, as if to indirectly punish them for their choice of meeting times.

 

He scanned the room, taking note of the ponies in it and noticing one he recognized. ‘Earl Kinetic Energy. I didn’t expect him to be here. Better keep a close eye on him. I doubt the others know about his eccentricities.’ He thought while he awaited a response.
