Maya listened to Meadow's heart as it beat a steady pace. "Do-do I have one...too?" Maya asked as she continued to listen to Meadow's heart as she burrowed herself into her soft fuzzy fur. Meadow's heartbeat actually calmed her down a little, nearly putting her to sleep.

Meadowlark smiles and holds Maya out in her arms, "Of course you do love, it's right here" She gently places a hoof on Maya's chest where her heart is, "Every pony has one, it is what keeps us alive, pumping the blood through our veins, granted some pony's hearts are dark and full of evil, those ponies you need to stay away from. But I wouldn't worry about your heart, your's is sweet, innocent and gentle" She kisses her on the head and pulls her back in for a snuggle.

Maya sort of burrowed herself into Meadow's fur. "Wh-what's e-evil?" Maya asked starting to quiver a bit. As a matter of fact, the word scared her a bit when Meadow stated, but she had to learn, even though she was scared. She burrowed herself deeper into Meadow's fur.

Meadowlark sighs, "Evil, darling, is a bad thing, an evil pony goes out to hurt and even kill other ponies. They care for nopony but themselves. It is something I never want you to be, I want you to stay your sweet, innocent, kind, caring, beautiful self, ok love?" She kisses Maya on the head and hugs her closer, "it would break mummy's heart if you turned evil"

"I-I don't want to...turn...evil..." Maya stated now retorting to lightly sobbing into Meadow's fur. She was very scared now, for she had learned about how merciless the world was, outside of her little forest. The curse the sage planted in her could cause her to become evil, but since Meadow had provided her with a ray of hope, the curse was almost rendered.

 

(At some point, the sage who created Maya will be introduced as a villan)

Meadowlark wiped Maya's tears away, "Please darling do not cry," she hugs her close and kisses her head again, stroking her mane, "I do not think you will ever turn evil, not in a million moons." she continues to hug her tightly.

"A-a million...moons?" Maya asked. She didn't learn anything about the calender system. All she knew was day and night. She was still quivering very lightly but had stopped crying.

Meadowlark smiles, "Let's just say, that I don't think you would ever turn evil, you are just too adorable to ever turn evil" She snuggles her close, "my very special little daughter, i love you so much and I will defend you with my very life"

Maya blushed very lightly at this. She then looked up at the sky. The sun was slowly setting. "Mommy, it's getting kind of um...um...dark..." Maya stated as she burrowed a little deeper into Meadow's warm and fluffly fur. She tried to pry open one of her wings so she could be covered.

Meadowlark smiled, "shh, shh it's ok darling, mummy is here" she spreads open both of her wings and wraps Maya up in them. "You just go to sleep in mummy's wings and I will keep a watch on you" she picks up the small stuffed animal and gives it over to Maya, "this will help you sleep"

Night had fallen. Maya was slowly drifting off to sleep as she snuggled her little stuffed animal.

 

In the middle of the night, as Maya was sleeping soundly tucked in with Meadow, she had a bad dream. The sage was taking over her mind since she wasn't awake. Suddenly Maya woke with a jolt and scream. "Mommy!" She cried out as she began to sob.

Meadowlark was prepared for this, she could tell that Maya was having a bad dream, so she pulls her in really close to her and gently holds her head where her heart is, "Shh, shh, it's ok darling. mummy's here, did you have another bad dream sweetheart?" she coos to her, stroking her mane gently to calm her down

Maya was breathing rapidly and quivering. "I-I can't sleep..." She said still sobbing and trying her best to calm her down. The sage's curse was almost at full power. If Maya didn't discover her hidden ability, they curse would take over her mind, tormenting her non-stop.

Meadowlark snuggled her close, making sure that Maya was still snuggling her stuffed animal,  "shh, shh, it's ok angel, mummy's here" She thinks for a bit then reaches into her saddle bag and places a small necklace around Maya's neck, "here you are darling, this little pendant will help, it's a dream catcher, so hopefully it will help  get rid of your nasty nightmares"

Maya calmed down a little more, but she was still quivering. Some of the curse had been lifted. Meanwhile the sage was monitoring Maya carefully. He was angry that Meadowlark had adapted her, for he needed her to be his slave and start taking over parts of Equestria for himself.

"You just try to go back to sleep now love, I'll keep a watch on you, we've got a big day of building our new home tomorrow, and you need all the sleep you can get" She kisses her on the cheek and holds her ever closer and whispers, "my darling little angel, my miracle." a tear falls from her eye and hits Maya on the nuzzle

(No, I'll have Maya discover her hidden abilities in front of Meadowlark. The encounter with the sage will come later. The next day, Maya will discover her hidden talent, as she nearly builds the house on her own.)

 

Maya was still quivering a little. She flinched when a tear plopped on her muzzle. "What was that?" She asked as she still quivered.

Meadow smiled, "that was a tear darling, mummy was...mummy was crying" she hugs Maya close to her, "I never want to lose you my love, you mean life to me, the world to me" she strokes Maya's mane, "I'm going to have to teach you how to take care of your body though, that's going to be fun" she chuckles a litle

Maya stopped quivering and calmed down. she soon drifted back to sleep.

Morning rose over the forest. Maya could see the hint of the sun rising. She opened her little eyes. "M-mommy?" She asked as she slowly wedged herself out of Meadow's wing. She folded it back gently.

Meadow had fallen asleep, but at the sound of Maya's voice calling her mummy ,woke her up, "Oh no! I'm so sorry darling, I fell asleep" She snuggles Maya with tear stained eyes, "I am so, so sorry my angel, I should have staid awake. Please forgive me" She says stroking her mane.

"Don't cry mommy." Maya stated looking at Meadow with her somewhat sparkly eyes. She then looked around. Suddenly her stomach growled. "Uh..." She said backing away with a little look of fear. She still had not gotten used to her stomach growling like this.

Meadowlark kisses her on the head, "I'm sorry love, I was crying long before you woke up, I..I'll tell you why after I get you some food and water." She gets up and walks off to get some more fruit from the plantation, she brings them back then goes off to get some water, returning with that, she sits down and nibbles slowly on a piece of fruit. "Dear, the reason I say meeting you was a miracle was because... Well love, mummy cannot have a foal of her own."

"Why? Is it because..." Maya couldn't figure it out. She then poured the water on herself, which caused her hair to grow a little longer. She then started to eat some of the fruit still pondering why Meadow couldn't have a foal of her own

"Well you see darling, mummy is a half-breed, it was hard enough for my parents to conceive me, and well, what stallion would want me? But the real reason is that mummy is barren or infertile, which means that i am just incapable of having foals" she kisses Maya on the head, "I love you darling, as if you were actually flesh and blood of mine"

The "flesh and blood" kinda scared Maya a little. "P-please don't say that again m-mommy..." Maya stated quivering while holding a fruit. Maya didn't know how to interpret some of the cliches and colloquiums that ponies stated in that time, since she was so young.
