could FIM be a prequel?

No.

A prequel has to be made beforehand, hence the prefix -pre. It's more of a remake than a prequel, since Hasbro had to remake the show after the first generation ended. That's why we have four generations.

Actually, a prequel is a story that is released after the main story but actually explains events prior to it.

Basically, it's a flash-back.

What have you got to be afraid of?

Even so, Friendship is Magic didn't explain events prior to it in a case like this: the generations before it. I'll take your word for it.

Oh yeah, I definitely don't think it's a prequel.  It has nothing to do with the other MLP shows.  I was just explaining the difference between a prequel and sequel.  lawl.

FIM has a more defined... Well, everything, as well as better technology then G1. Also, didn't G1 only have earth ponies and pegasi? I could be wrong... So unless an apocalypse happened somewhere in between then no, I don't think it is.

Actually the original Twilight was a unicorn.
