How to make OC

THIS CONTENT MAY BE VERY OFFENSIVE TO SOME. YOU DON'T HAVE TO FOLLOW THIS BUT I VERY VERY STRONGLY RECOMMEND IT.

Who they are

You probably know what an OC is. An Original Character. I'm going to help explain how to make one. First off, you should draw (or find a base) that shows the front of your pony, the sides and behind it. Next up, decide your pony's race. Are you fast and athletic? Pegasus. Are you wise and smart? Unicorn. Are you hard-working and not afraid to get dirty? Earth pony! Now, that's just my view on it. If you want to be a different race that doesn't exactly match you, fine with me. Now the race is set, we can decide on what mane and tail to give them. Be creative! Don't give them a mane from the show.

Their colors

Whatever you do, don't give your pony rainbow hair. Just don't. Just remember in the show you never see a pony with a black coat or a rainbow mane like Dashie's. Ponies don't have black or white eyes either. I recommend giving your pony colors that are across from each other on the color wheel so they can pop.

Their personality

Here's where everypony goes wrong. Don't make a Mary-sue. Make your pony different from yourself. You can make it like the same things as you, but a ponifed version of someone always turns out bad. Do they like sports? Are they athletic? Are they friendly? Are they shy? Don't just go 'Oh, they're super friendly and kind.' DON'T MAKE A MARY-SUE. Think about it. everyone has their downsides. Example, a pony can be very friendly but gullible. Ponies can have a good sense of humor, but ponies may not like their humor.  So just don't go with the good things. Give them something bad. Decide what they like to do, what they don't like. Their favorite food, their favorite color, their skills and friends (And for the love of all that is good, don't be best friends with the Mane Six).

Their cutie mark

Most ponies have cutie marks. If you don't know what your OC is good at, or is good at nothing, skip this. Let's look at what you have for their skills. What do they love doing the most out of those? Do they like cooking? Give them a cooking cutie mark. Be creative. Design your own cutie mark, don't copy others. Next, you should make up a story about how they got their cutie mark. Ponies have to realize their talent, and prove that talent.

Their back story

This is the hard part. You have to think about how your pony's life is, was and will be. Where were they raised? Who are their parents (NOT A MANE CHARACTER OR PRINCESS OR ANYTHING!)? Do they have siblings (THE SAME AS BEFORE!)? This is a life. Just kind of think of how their day to day life was. Did their childhood disturb them? And the most annoying question, how and when will they die? All up to you.

Dos and Don'ts

DON'T make an Alicorn OC

DON'T give it a mane like one of the mane six's.

DON'T MAKE A -SUE

DON'T make it BFFs with any mane, princess or side characters.

DO design your own mane

DO design your own Gala Outfit

DO make up your own name

DON'T take some one else's work.

YOU DON'T HAVE to listen to this guide. But it's very strongly recommended.

Thanks for reading, and I hoped this helped some. I'm sorry if I offended anyone... But it's just my opinion.

I find this guide somewhat misleading.

> Fundamentally, there's nothing wrong with having a multicolored (Even rainbow-colored) mane.  It's kind of silly to ban any sort of aesthetic, unless it's a bunch of aesthetics coming together to form Snowflake Syndrome.  And, given that FiM is a very colorful universe, the ceiling for Snowflake Syndrome is significantly higher than it would normally be.

> I think placing a focus on the petty things like "favorite food, favorite color etc etc." is somewhat superficial, as it doesn't reveal a great deal about the character.  If I had to reveal more about the character through questions, I would pose more thoughtful questions, like "If they had one wish, no holds barred, what would they wish for?".

> You know, I don't ever think I've seen a poorly-written ponysona character.  Maybe one, two tops.  But making a character that's "Me, as a pony!  Plus a few extra whistles and bells, because pony." is not a bad thing.

> What's wrong with being friends with the Mane Six?  A lot of people fail to write it correctly; that doesn't mean it's a bad concept at any rate.

Honestly, it sounds like you've met a lot of really poorly designed characters (Or Mane Six clones, given the emphasis on being original) and wanted to do something about that, which is admirable.  But there is a certain degree of failure to explain in this guide which makes it fail to meet standards.  I mean...you don't even explain who Mary Sue is.

@@CHAOS_FANTAZY, I wasn't banning being friends with the mane six, I just get annoyed how everyone loves to say their OC is Fluttershy's best friend etc. etc. I was assuming people knew what a mary sue was anyway,
