Every time i have a good idea for a thread it gets instalocked because i have no bloody idea how to use the search feature correctly every time i use it i can't find any threads the same but there always is one. So how can i make threads if all threads are made heck there is probably already a thread about the amount of threads taken already.

I don't know how you're using the search function but try to use more general terms. If you're too specific it won't bring up the right threads, or any at all.

Most importantly do try to make a thread that's not completely generic. The more generic it is, the more likely there's already a thread.

If you have to, go through the forum pages a little and see if you can find something for yourself. If you can't find anything in the first three or four pages you're probably safe to make the thread.

Hey @Best Username Ever, I have moved your topic from General Discussion to Site Questions & Tech Support. The latter is the best place to ask questions about the site. :)

I understand your frustration, but we have our policy to avoid redundant discussion, in addition to helping keep things more organized. You can read more about our reasons for doing this in this FAQ article.

That being said, it is understandable that it can be difficult to find something with the search system and we don't expect people to spend hours searching through currently existing threads before posting a new one. Basically, the more generic the purpose of your thread is, the higher the likelihood there is already a thread for it. When searching you should try using both general and specific search terms. Which approach results in the most relevant search results can vary. As Discordian said, if, by just looking through the first few pages of search results you do not see a thread you are considering posting already in existing, it's probably safe to go ahead and post it.

So, just keep these things in mind when making a new topic. Additionally, don't worry if you make a topic that gets locked because of this :) this is very common and not a serious offense by any means.

Wait so can i have a step by step guide on how to use the search feature like a boss.

One of our help files explains how to use the search feature. Just click that link and scroll down to where it says "Searching," and click that to expand the guide. :)

You know, I like to use Google to search before I decide to make a thread. It's not the site's way to look for threads, but it works all the same.

To do so, you go on the Google search bar and type in site:mlpforums.com *SEARCH KEYWORDS*

Here's how it should look:

Just one way to do it :P thought I'd throw out a different approach that works quite well in my opinion. If no results are popping up and you're trying out a good amount of keywords relating to the thread you wanna make, it's likely that you're fine.
