gaming Star Fox 64 Easter Egg?

So, while playing the Solar level in Star Fox 64 taking the normal route, I noticed two bird enemies that were golden colored:

 

 

There seems to be only two in the level. If you shoot these and kill them(if possible), what do you get? I haven't been able to kill them even when I try targeting them.

Anyways, I have not noticed golden birds before! Shoot them down!

If memory serves, you can obtain a spiked ring as the most common drop, which as you may know restores roughly 1000% more health than your regular ring.

 

I think they can potentially also drop laser power-up and bombs. Perhaps a golden ring as well.

I haven't tested it, but it appears that they don't appear all the time on the level. I fact, they may appear sometimes but not other times.
