That's pretty good for your first go at it! If you troll around deviantart you can find templates for eyes and different body parts that you can use.

What I did to learn how to vector really well is trace characters from the show to get used to the proportions and the thickness of the outlines. If you go to my deviantart page I have posted a fair amount of files that can help. All my templates are uploaded in the .PSD photoshop format.

Yeah I've been thinking of ways to make the eyes rounder. Also thank you, I will try that.

It's been literally a year since I've used Illustrator, but if there is an ellipse making tool of some sort, then definitely use that. The last thing you want with eye is harsh bends.

I'm using inkscape. And there is an ellipse tool, but I haven't quite figured out how to tilt them. Also how to deal with that and pupils/irises that go off the edge of the eye.

That's a really awesome pic for your first time! :D

Thank you :) hopefully I'll have the eyes figured out soon.

Im not sure if it works in inkscape but typically for those sort of those edits you can press ctrl-t to rotate and scale and stretch and all that fun stuff. I used inkscape for a whole 10 minutes before I went back to photoshop.
