How you became a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: I'm not a fan yet, exactly.

Guys, I'm gonna be honest with here. I am nowhere near a MLP fan. I am legitimately trying to find out the big deal with MLPFIM. I'm a Sonic the Hedgehog fan, kind of a furry (I guess), a Tara Strong fan, into a lot of nerd/non nerd stuff. MLP showcases a unique art style with story arch that pays homage to many cartoons I watched growing up. Nothing has something so trendy has ever been able to pull of an episodic cartoon show with those lame after school PSA lessons so effectively. It is a cartoon that seems to cater to the young female demographic but its audience exceeds that, creating fans of all genders, ages, and backgrounds. It is the cartoon phenomenon that for a time took the world by storm and is still very popular, showing no signs of going any where, any time soon.

That being said, why am I not a fan of this? I am just finishing up season 1 of MLP and I am still not a fan of it yet. Its cute, its adorable and I'm a manly man who would rock some Puppycat jammies all day long. I like Applejack because she reminds me a lot of Bunnie Rabbot from Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM). What I'm trying to say is that I am not a fan of MLP and I think I should be. I am an aspiring screenwriter (hoping to start out writing for animated television shows) but that isn't the reason why I'm trying to understand all of this. I'm coming to the realization that I'm trying to hard so now I'm turning to the forums...sort of to hear it from the...pony's mouth...can't believe I typed that. I think true fans could shed a light on this situation. I got the idea from watching that Bronies documentary. I'm not sure if that was an accurate representation of a MLP fan, though. I want to know what brought you all to MLP. Hearing from fans may help me put things into perspective. (I am dead serious. I really want some input. This is coming from a genuinely curious and open-minded place.)

It's just a good cartoon.

It's got some good animation, well-written believable characters, an expansive universe, and a sprawling fandom with much to do in it...

Isn't that what matters,no matter the candy-colored packaging?

 

I like to think so.

 

So what if you don't end up liking it? I don't like Invader Zim, and too many lots of people still do. It's all a matter of preference.

I'm also a Tara Strong fan, my favorite voices of her are Bubbles and Raven.

The season 1 is a great season but definetly not the best one. I guess you'll prefer the 2nd season, and the current one (4th) has some great episodes too.

Good luck to you in your search. IMO, the series gets better as you go on. Try wetting your feet into Season 2 a bit. After all, you haven't even met best Villain, yet, and you do, in the S2 premiere.

 

(I'd also try and get lengthy, serious feedback somewhere other than your intro :3 Intro threads are really meant for hellos, how do you do's and casualities, they're not generally reliable for lengthy discussions. Try Show Discussion or Sugarcube Corner. Even search for some past topics, in where people have explained why they like the show and how they got into the fandom.)

I was not entirely convinced of the show for most of season one either, season two gets alot better than season one (not that 

 

season one was bad or anything). Honestly though, I  became a true fan after I saw all of the amazing fan animations, music, fictions,

 

art and such.

Let me start by saying "Welcome to the forums!"

 

I too sort of found my way into the fandom via the Bronies documentary put together by John De Lancie, and having a girlfriend who was already into the show.

 

For me personally, it's an excellent mesh of good artwork and animation, top tier voice acting, well-written and catchy tunes, and above all, characters.

 

I mean the Mane 6 are pretty much just a grab bag of personality disorders.

- Pinkie's an ADHD mess, who can't handle not being the most fun pony in town, or when people don't like her for any reason.

- Rainbow Dash is hyper-competitive to a fault, often leaving her friends in the dust for the sake of winning (which is HIlarious, given that her element is supposed to be loyalty), but eventually coming back around to them. Also, no filter between brain and mouth. Whatsoever.

- Applejack's determination has lead her mouth to write a few checks her body can't cash. I'd really like to see the writers do more with her.

- Rarity is both self-obsessed and generous to a fault. We saw in Suited for Success how she ended up drowning herself in work and throwing away amazing designs just to make her friends happy.

- Fluttershy... well it's in her name. Crippling fear of interaction with other ponies.

- Twilight even has her own issues, well illustrated in Lesson Zero and It's About Time (the latter being one of my favorite episodes).

 

All in all, the writers have created a relateable cast with adorable artwork. It's hard to resist!

Well this is not going be one reglur greeting cause your post is making me think. Is nice people adventure outside there comfort zone. I can kind relate, considering am also a hug 40k fan at heart. And for longest time i couldn't figure myself out. How could go from grim-dark further. To little ponies. XD Don't know if felt same way. But i think is great that you are exploring the MLP fandom. And what can say we are a bounce of good people, our should say ponies? Anyhow i hope you be enjoying your stay here, and that you will find allot of new good friends.
