Can Dreaming Make you Travel to Other Worlds in Another Universe?

Hi everypony! I just got this questions that came into my head right about now.

We all love to dream when we dream, don't we? Riding on spaceships, being in a fantasy land, becoming a warrior etc. All of us can imagine being in those scenarios when we sleep. This makes me wonder though if dreaming can make us travel to worlds located in different universes when we use our imaginative mind.

Who knows where we all might be every time we dream? One time we could be in a world similar to ours and somewhere different in another time. But I know this dream mind transporting thing can be a silly theory I might have made up but that's what I think when it comes to using our unstoppable brain power when we rest.

Even if this theory cannot be true, what do you ponies think about this? Could Luna have the power for us to travel to different worlds in other universes while we sleep in this one or is it just our imagination?

I don't think so. My dreams are usually just random insanity that I hardly remember when I wake up. Maybe they do that, but unless you can control your dreams it would be rather useless. I would need some kind of proof to believe in such a thing.

It does sound really cool though, it's on my list "Stuff I wish I could do."

The honest answer is we don't know. We know hardly anything about dreams, we are not even sure why they happen.

Obviously you don't physically travel to other worlds, but perhaps a portion of your mind can, or perhaps you create a world.

We may never know.

Why stop at dreaming? Why not every time we use our imagination about a scenario that isn't our own? What about every fictional scenario we witness through TV, books and video games?

Yeah, we don't have any idea if it's possible or not. That's why it remains a mystery...

Could it be that the inspiration for every fiction story is because the mind of the author has touched upon another world, where it is true?

Fun thoughts.

Food for thought time.

People always use reasoning like "we can't control ourselves" or "we aren't physically there" to figure how real something is but if we are travelling to other worlds, different dimensions even, then why would you assume that the laws of our reality apply there at all? Does it take your physical body to still take part in another world? You are still essentially there by creating a secondary body with your thoughts and subconscious.

Many people can't control themselves in their dreams but there's nothing saying that you get direct control, more like you get to witness your body doing things based on your own thoughts and emotions. It's disorienting enough that it leads us to believe that it isn't real.

We're essentially thinking of these dream worlds with minds that are accustomed to the laws of this world. It may never be possible for us to even fully understand how that world works because we are seemingly built to function in this one.

Or perhaps our minds just hitchhike in the body of another being?

 I've thought of it that way for years. Either they've touched another world and the story gives us a window into it or it could go even further and every author is actually the creator of that world and things like books are our window into the world he has created. No one understands a created world better than the creator.

Yes, I've thought exactly like that myself. It helps that I read Heinlein's Number of the Beast.

Of course, we'll never know for sure unless we can physically travel there, in which case EQUESTRIA HERE I COME!

The only thing is that our own physicality is probably what prevents us from fully traversing to other worlds. Also acting as a sort of prison mentally as well as physically that keeps people thinking that "if I can't experience it with my body, it's not real." We are so obsessed with our senses that we believe anything that isn't sensual can't be real.

You've got some really good points there. All of us might have a dreamy body which changes form depending on our dream. All of us can imagine if these facts are surprisingly true or not.

Then the simple answer is to evolve beyond the need for bodies. Well, I say simple...

Not going to happen in my lifetime, of course.

Another thought: Are you sure you are not me?

Have you ever heard the theory that we are alone in the universe and everything around us was created by us or for us for the sake of cultivating us into a predefined being, potentially a deity? ;)

Or how about the one where we are NOT alone but we also don't necessarily witness everything the same. Sure, we've got simple stuff like perspective and experiences that affect our perspectives but maybe we all see entirely different worlds with different laws of physics and we're all just avatars for the sake of interacting with each other in the true reality?

Yes, both.

well see I don't exactly believe that because it's proven psychologically that dreams are from our subconscious and what we go through daily but why are dreams crazy? because if dreams were as CLEAR as our situations in real life we would actually never sleep because of the trauma. We would be waking up multiple times in the middle of the night because you don't even want to deal with the issue which explains why dreams are abstract. Yes some religious, philosophical or/and superstitious people do believe they have meanings... maybe they do you never know in that area I am quite superstitious somethings just make sense but don't think I only cling onto that I also look at the psychological reasoning all together and TRY to figure out what's up with my brain... I actually have a big problem dreaming especially recently. I ALWAYS remember my dreams because of how vivid they are and it drives me INSANE because it's with the same person almost 95% of the time and I'm SICK and TIRED of my issue with that person and I want to be able to have a dream without him in it for once. Sometimes these dreams either create false hopes for me or make me hate the person and neither is great this just sucks honestly I would love not to dream at least with him. In fact I have not been sleeping well for months because of this, in fact last night I slept only 2 hours because I just didn't want to sleep I'm sick of dreaming and I'm sick of crying my eyes out either going to sleep or waking up. I never though I was gonna go through this sh*t I even thought I must have done something horrid for me to get my *ss kicked like this by Karma

More food for thought.

The reason our dreams are spawned from our subconscious could be a forced limiter so our dreamselves can't bring us to a world our mind would not be able to comprehend, potentially driving us mad or giving us knowledge we were never meant to obtain. ;)

I am sorry to hear about your predicament though. As someone who adores my sleep it saddens me when people can't get enough of it.

---

MORE DREAM THOUGHT.

You know how when you're dreaming you don't always realize you are, in fact, dreaming? You believe that world to be real regardless of what happens in it?

What if we are a dream? The fact that we can acknowledge that we may be dream versions of ourselves implies that we are the dream of a being with much higher intelligence, much like when we are sleeping we seemingly have little to no control over ours and our reactions only exist with the scope of our own minds. ;)

oh I see what you mean XD yeah you're right in fact it could be another world in a way perhaps

and it's ok I actually adore sleep as well I literary punched a kid in school for waking me up (it happened unexpected and fast though like he woke me up abruptly so I just *BANG* O_O) it's just difficult sleeping when the dreams are vivid, I always remember them, and the fact that it's with the same person all the time, and the fact it's with the person I'm debating whether to forget or not it's just ARGH! o__________o idk it just really hurts when a friend of yours completely changes out of nowhere and you don't even know what to feel or how to feel it's kind of like if they died or someone else kidnapped them and now there's this "new" person taking over their bodies o_o and it's even worse if you fell for them GOD! >___<

My short answer is yes and definitely.
The long answer you can find by visiting these links ;)
Happy dreaming!

I don't think so. My dreams are usually just random insanity that I hardly remember when I wake up. Maybe they do that, but unless you can control your dreams it would be rather useless.

There is a way to control your dreams. This is called "conscious dreaming" (or "lucid dreaming" by some, but this name could be confusing). There are also methods for improving remembering your dreams (which are the part of the training of lucid dreaming, since it's a waste to have a lucid dream and forget it).

I would need some kind of proof to believe in such a thing.

Unfortunately this is pretty much impossible to prove. You can only convince yourself by doing it and being there on your own.

Well, there were some experiments by Dr Stephen LaBerge from the Lucidity Institute at Palo Alto. He let his subjects to sleep and monitored their brains' electric activity to spot the moment they're in a REM sleep, and then signaled them by light flashes to awake their consciousness in their dreams (they were trained to notice these signs and recognize that they're in a dream when they see light flashing in their dreams). Then they were instructed to move their eyes left and right in a special Morse code-like pattern to signal that they're conscious and aware they're in a dream. These eyeball motions were then recorded by the scientific apparatus.

Unfortunately, one can always object that they just learned how to respond to these signals automatically, not being conscious at all. (Though one can object the same for all human responses, but whatevr).

People always use reasoning like "we can't control ourselves" or "we aren't physically there" to figure how real something is but if we are traveling to other worlds, different dimensions even, then why would you assume that the laws of our reality apply there at all? Does it take your physical body to still take part in another world? You are still essentially there by creating a secondary body with your thoughts and subconscious.

Exactly.

I know of a couple (a guy and a girl) who were good at lucid dreaming and they once tried practicing mutual dreaming, that is, they tried to meet each other in their dreams and dream together. Once they planned to meet in a dream on a beach. When Zaphiel came there, he haven't met Oliko there, and he was a bit disappointed, so he stubbed his katana sword into the sand and went off. When he woke up and asked Oliko what she has dreamed about, it turned out that she dreamed about that beach and she also haven't met him there, but she saw his katana sword sticking out from the sand.

This phenomenon could be an indication that the dream world is not necessarily that much subjective place as we all think of it. Since one person can leave something in a place and the other person can find that very object in that very place, from my perspective it can be considered objective reality.

Once I tried to meet with them, too. I appeared in a camping truck and they were there. We came outside and they took me around the place, which looked like some place in Arizona. There was a red desert with canyons visible in the horizon, there was a blue car under a tree, and some little houses from the suburbs.

When I woke up, I contacted Zaphiel and described my dream to him. He said: "I don't remember meeting you in my dream, but what you say is nevertheless very strange. Wait, I'll send you some screenshots..."

I was surprised: "What? Screenshots? From a dream? How is it possible?"

But I was even more surprised when I actually saw these screenshots: It was exactly the scenery from my dream! :-Q

img-2556408-1-raystantzaykroyd.jpg

"How the hell is it possible?!" -- I asked.

He explained that this is a video game he and Oliko play recently many hours throughout the day, so they often dream that they're in that game together. I've never seen that game before, and I've never played it. So the only possibility I can imagine is that we've actually met in that dream and that's where I saw this scenery, but Zaphiel and Oliko haven't remembered that dream.

I had several other experiences with mutual dreaming, but less impressive, so I won't describe it here.

Mutual dreaming is not a fantasy, it's actually possible, and there was a scientist woman named Linda Lane Magallón, who did a lot of study in this phenomenon and wrote several books about her studies.

Serves him right for interrupting the best time of the day: nap time!

Random changes often spawn from things happening in their lives that they may or may not care to share with people. Perhaps he's going through a rough time and could use someone support as opposed to being pushed away.

But in the end, don't be afraid to let him go and forget about him. Associating with him is obviously causing you great distress and you gotta keep yourself healthy.

It's all psychological. It's just mental images formed in the center of your cerebral cortex after the rapid eye movement cycle during one's sleep.

What a boring answer. Have no you love for adventure!?

true

No I perfectly understand that and I know a lot of things and I ALSO did noticed that he seems down but he is treating me like crap though and confusing the hell out of me mind tricking me and I just can't I would actually jump of a cliff for him in the sense he was in danger but this just hurts I don't like having my feelings being messed with and him feeling down or having low self esteem (which he does and I'm not assuming this) doesn't justify him treating me like crap what bothers me is the lovely solid friendship we had he even defended me from my bullies EVEN if they were friends with him, now he even pays attention to what strangers say grrr and it's not about defending me either I only mentioned that to show the level of trust it was there we used to tell each other many things it's like all that has vanished (but I am very serious though I have discussed this with many people and no one understands his behavior he's really confusing me but the problem is when I reach for help (BECAUSE I HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE I'M GOING INSANE D: ) then people confuse me more and otherrs start getting involved ._.

and I see what you mean there I I'm trying as much as I can at least I haven't crept on him on facebook as much as I used to which it's a step although it's a BIT hard with him freaking sending game requests everyday ._. but I don't like deleting people JUST because of an issue I only delete people when I feel in danger or I have a strong hatred against that person .-. (for whatever reason)
