lomk 20,663 May 20, 2014 Share May 20, 2014 We go to college and get 4 year degrees to get chimp jobs because a chimp job sure beats the crap out of keeping that high school diploma and having a dog job. Personal opinion. I refuse to let go until you're impressed. I refuse to let go until I'm depressed.

Kel_Grym 1,917 May 20, 2014 Share May 20, 2014 I'm a human being! Not some monkey for some chode that owns a business. This is the thing I think you overlook a lot. Being brutally honest. When you say that you're a human being and not some monkey that works for a business, you are blatantly disregarding the fact that it isn't a monkey working for some chode. That monkey is a human too. Probably with a wife and child. He's doing what he has too to put food on the table. The machine may be a machine, but it is a machine made of people. Real people. Never forget that. Society has a lot of problems, but the biggest one that stands in the way is when we look at the sea of humanity and fall into misanthropic thinking and begin to only see the class division. That's when we start to dehumanize our perceived enemy. I work in fast food, and it's easy for me to think of all the customers that come by and order food, as a single conglomerate entity, with an insationable appetite, who's only purpose is to work me to the bone. It's easy to view humanity as a disgusting monster that just won't quit and leave me alone. So I curse and vent, but I don't forget. They're just people. I can't blame them. I'm part of that monstrosity when I swing by taco bell to order food. I have been thinking about boycotting fast food entirely, but since I work there I might as well make myself comfortable and take advantage of employee discount. Maybe later when I get a better job.
Jeric 46,852 May 21, 2014 Share May 21, 2014 KelGrym! Well said. Trying to see people as having more substance that our fleeting interactions allow is how we avoid seeing our fellow man as a 'Them'. And once again I'll say, college isn't useless. Yes the debt to potential income ratio isn't as favorable as it is was in the past ... but I sure as hell don't want to be in that past where life had even greater challenges. WWAPD 126 May 21, 2014 Share May 21, 2014 When it comes down to it, I think it really matters what degree you get in college. Companies are always going to pay top dollar for their engineers, computer scientists, and statisticians, but you can't really complain about not finding work with a degree in history or liberal arts. Anyone will want an employee who's educated over one who's not for just any job, but the high paying jobs go to the ones who majored in what they were hired for. Rarity is best pony. Starshine 16,334 May 21, 2014 Share May 21, 2014 Because there are hundreds of people out there with a degree and more qualification who are willing to work cheaper and longer. Not getting a degree in anything is a basically a suicide if you don't have decent enough network.
