My Rainbow Dash drawing! Look up in the sky! Its a bird its a plane no.. Its..

Hey y'all I'm here again after spending some time drawing my Rainbow Dash picture, this is again the first time I've drawn Rainbow Dash(Like all of my other Mane 6 Drawings have been so far.) however it's mane is somewhat similar to my Oc's mane so it wasn't as unknown for that part.

 

However the colors in her mane took a little bit. It wasn't quite as hard as I actually thought it would be.

Well I guess thats about all I have to say, so without further rambling I'll just get to the pictures!

I used this as reference(Google images ftw .)

 

I used GIMP and a mouse like always, I think this one took me around 1 1/2 hoursish. In my opinion I think it was easier then Pinkie's overall since I was use to the mane, and because it wasn't quite as complex to draw as Pinkies mane.

 

I also tried to size up the eye size and hoof's size because in my past drawings they've always been quite small in proportion(As has been pointed out by critique ) So I this time I decided to flat out draw them huge to what my mind currently thought of the proportions, and I think it turned out better overall(I have to admit the hoofs in my pinkie drawing especially where quite small.. And the eyes we're pretty small to.)

 

I guess thats about it, next in line I think I have Rarity to draw! I think she might take some effort, but I'm gonna do it(eventually.) I'm not sure if I'll be able to get all the mane 6 drawn once by Christmas, but It depends on how much time I spend drawing I guess . I'll be gone the day after Christmas, so I won't be able to draw, but hopefully within the next couple days before Christmas I can finish them(I have a plan that I'm thinking about doing with them.)

 

Anyways leave your critique as always! Its always welcome as I can only improve with critique!

Edit: I fixed the small error with me totally forgetting the cutie mark(Which I seem to forget quite often.)

Also I changed it to PNG format, due to suggestions.

It doesn't look 2 bad.

 

For drawing, i ALWAYS hand draw mine.. I would recommend you drawing by hand before you draw using a computer program because it's more complicated using a Online drawing program than it is to use your hands.

 

But it doesn't look 2 bad.. looks decent, and it's ironic because i've used the SAME reference to draw rainbow dash, but mine came out pretty damn good.

 

But just keep practicing.

Yeah, Its about 2 minutes here now when it'll be the 22nd. . I'm pretty sure nothings gonna happen in two minutes though.

 

Pretty sure the mayan calender was already proven wrong, but just in case a Pony Art thread(and luckily mine .) Is an ideal place to spend it .

I just never really hand drawn ponys because of the fact that I'm still a closet brony, and if my parents come in(Or my brother) While I'm drawing it would be... Awkward to say the least(Plus they can come in pretty much anytime due to the lock on my door being broken :/.)

 

And also sharing a hand drawn picture to here is a little harder for me(I don't have a scanner or anything). I don't have a tablet to use to hand draw into a digital program either, so I'm pretty much using the most convenient and on hand tools I have.

 

I'm sure I can only improve with practice, right? .

The eyes seem a little weird, the wings look off, there is no cutie mark, mane could be more smooth, nose is to pointy, hoofs need a little more curve to them, chest seems to extend out to far, ear is oddly shaped, and you saved as a .jpg (save graphic images as .png for less compression resulting in much higher quality).

Wow it looks pretty sweet, you got a pretty darn good bit of talent there .

The eye's do seem off, I think they highlights in the eyes aren't lined up correct, I think they're both facing kinda inward when they should be both facing in a certain direction. The wings are just really, confusing to draw for me. The cutie mark thing... Ugh, I knew I was forgetting something. . I'll proably go fix that later for future reference(What is with me and forgetting cutie marks.. ;/)

 

I think I actually went back to my jagged edged mane feel which is much to jagged looking I think especially after you pointing that out. The nose while one of my better attempts at the darn nose, is still a bit messy I agree. And the hoofs do have a bit of a problem I can see now.

 

The chest issue I've been trying to fix forever with my art, it seems to always be off. I'm sure with enough practice I'll find the correct way to fix it.

 

And the ear is really just a big pain to draw for me somereason, I couldn't get the ear to look right at all, and to be totally honest I just got frustrated and eventually quit at it. I used the best one I could really come out with using my trys.

 

As for the JPG thing, I actually didn't know that. Thats a nice tip, thanks! .

As for the sketch, I'll try it sometime, I assume when you say mouth you mean her nose and mouth and all of that?

And I really need to get some practice on the wings sometime. Pointy nose thing is been a problem in alot of the stuff I've drawn, I'm working to fix that though!

Yeah, I'll be trying to fix the nose for my next drawing. And I fixed that cutie mark issue! Silly me always forgetting cutie marks!

Sketching is the first thing you should do to start a drawing. It's a lot easier to fix a sketch before you draw the outline so you have a vague idea of where to draw. I've attached a sketch that I did for my recent drawing. It doesn't look perfect, and a few things were changed, namely adding a cutie mark, her horn,  moving her left hoof into a salute and adding goggles. But the sketch gave me a basic idea on how to draw the body. Some people draw sketches with normal sized brushes at lowered density. I just do it with a very thin brush. Canvas size also helps. I happen to do mine in 5000x5000 with around a 9 brush size for the outline brush and size 4 for the sketches. Hope this helped a little!

I see, so then basically all you do is just draw a sketch to see how it should look roughly, then take the sketch and draw the outline around it and fix that?

I guess it makes sense kinda,  I suppose it is easier to not worry about drawing the drawing perfect first to get the proportions right and then draw everything to proportions and without lines everywhere.

 

I may try it sometime I guess, it sorta makes sense, maybe I have to try it first for it to click in my mind, idk .
