I actually hated the Twilight/Tirek fight scene

The reason is because it reminded me of one of the most broken, pathetic, overhyped anime to have ever crapped out of Funimation and Saban: Dragon Ball Z, which was part of a long line of inferior sequels. Dragon Ball Z's fights dragged on for too long, Goku is overpowered, and his entire non-saiyan ensemble cast gets disposed of and reduced to extras.

And, the fight scene had one of those problems. It reduced Twilight's friends to disposable extras who could just die instantly and not make much of an impact on the story at all. Meanwhile, Twilight becomes an overpowered Mary Sue, most likely due to the alicorn magic given to her by all the other three princesses. That, and it's nothing but brainless, retarded spectacle I could just as easily get in Dragon Ball Z itself, which I have and don't want again.

Thank God for the Rainbow Power scene, which at least restored Twilight's friends' relevancy. All of them, not just Twilight alone, received their own Rainbow Power transformations, which helped them overcome Tirek's alicorn magic.

DBZ is the most overhyped piece of shite to have ever crapped out of a once beloved manga artist and writer. It got rid of the original Dragon Ball's core essence for the sake stupid spectacle, like almost every other sequel ever made that tried to one up their originals and went too far with it. And, MLP shouldn't reflect that, either. The Twilight/Tirek fight was just another example of pathetic spectacle creep which, once again, turns Twilight into a Mary Sue, and her friends into disposable extras, because Meghan McCarthy and her writing staff wanted Season Four's finale to one-up the past three finales.

So why the buck the Twilight/Tirek fight, but not the Rainbow Power scene, which at least made Twilight's friends relevant alongside her?

Oh no, the entire fight scene sucks because it reminds me of something I don't like and it shows that Twilight thinks her friends are disposable! Never mind the fact that she determined that they were more important than safeguarding the power of three additional alicorns on top of her own power. They don't matter to her, at all, and she would never risk losing all of Equestria to Tirek for them. Except when she did.

Well, it's true.  The entire non-saiyan cast of the original Dragon Ball (and 18, if we include her) all get reduced to disposable extras whose only purpose is to die, while Goku, Vegeta, and their sons become the most overpowered piles of bucks I've ever seen in my bucking life.

Twilight's friends were disposable in that fight scene, and would remain that way until the girls opened the Rainbow Power box, which restored their relevance upon being opened.

Even as a DBZ fan I will admit you have a point about them being overpowered and even though Twilight becoming overpowered was one of my main concerns about twilicorn I am glad that this infusion of power was only temporary as anything permanent would indeed make her a Mary Sue. Nevertheless I still loved the fight scene and the finale and would like to see similar ones in the future just maybe not with Twilight being the only one to fight the big bad.

Don't worry.  All six of the girls banded together to defeat Tirek once they obtain Rainbow Power.  In other words, the conflict was resolved the same way as most other conflicts: Through the magic of friendship.

Please tell me how determining that her friends were more important than being overpowered means that she thinks her friends are disposable. They were powerless, yes, but Twilight chose them over power.

It's the fact that so many people are constantly talking about and enjoying that one stupid fight scene over every other aspect of the finale, or Hell the entire show, let alone Season Four, just because it resembled one of the worst anime sequels ever crapped out and hyped to death.  That's my main problem here.

Probably because it was surprisingly violent for a cartoon meant for kids and their parents to watch.

I don't know what you got against Twilight, but she sure as hell doesn't see her friends as "disposable" like you accuse her of doing. She united them time and time again, and ensures that all of them work towards a common goal - spreading the magic of friendship, acting as a leader more or less in this quest.

Oh come on people! That was the most action I have ever seen out of this season...possibly out of all the seasons, this has got to be the most climactic. You gotta think, Tirek was out of control and was going to take everyone's power...the only thing Twilight could do to defend herself, for she was obviously the only one who could, used the alicorn magic to fight Tirek head on...most likely one of the only things she could do at the time because Tirek was after her.

The DBZ scenario is kinda self explanatory when you think about it. Not sure if it was intended, but I doubt that. I think the scene was to entertain fans and the little audiences...using a climatic, adrenaline pumping scene. I thought it would please fans...sure did me. I've never seen Twi so angry and fight like a friggin' baws! We need more of this. Honestly. Season worth spent.

And that scene destroyed any relevance Twilight's friends could've had, up until the Rainbow Power scene, which managed to restore it.

Besides, if there was any lesson to be had from this stupidity, it's that alicorn magic can't trump friendship, because the former was more useless against Tirek than the latter.

You know there are more important things than fighting? Just because Twi's friends couldn't fight in this case doesn't mean they are useless. They have plenty of other talents. They are far more important to Twilight than power.

I could say the same about Goku's "weaker" friend's. They are worth more than just their power level.

This, this. So much this. Twilight doesn't see her friends as cannon fodder, oh no. If she did, she woulda objected to them being in the same castle as her at the end of the episode...s. Nor would she have united them together through friendship and helped them to spread friendship to others as well. Sometimes, she didn't even need to help her friends.

There is more to a friend than how powerful they are. A lot more. To think that Twilight values her friends based on how powerful they are is simply put, wrong and completely misses the point of the whole show.

Plus... Twilight as has always had more power than her friends. They actually praise her for how strong her magic is.

But they don't constantly question themselves for their uselessness toward Twilight.  Even Spike contemplated that more often than the Mane Five, and yet he saved the Crystal Empire twice.

It'd be nice, though.

Guy who made that liked the fight scene based on the description.

Stop acting like you know Twilight's character when evidently you only pull negatives out of thin air, please. Twilight is not who you accuse her of being. Without her, the show wouldn't even exist. She coulda kept all the alicorn magic in Equestria, but did she do that? No, she chose her friends over that, Discord included. If she was who you accuse her of being, she woulda kept the magic, but did she? No, she risked losing Equestria to Tirek because she knew she couldn't defeat Tirek alone and needed them to help her win. "Disposable" my ass.

Did you just try to use a fan comic to disprove that argument. What?

Friendship is more important than power. In a way the two are even the same thing. This is true in Dragon Ball Z as well. Goku ascended to a super saiyan after witnessing Kuririn's death. Gohan became a Super Saiyan 2 out of a desire to protect his friends. Just because someone can't fight doesn't make them unimportant.

If you were to ask Twilight what means the most to her, she would say her friends and family. After watching Dragon Ball since childhood, I think Goku would say the same.

But these two characters are also holding their friends back, keeping them from reaching their own potential so that they could be the ones helping the two main-protagonists.  And when a bunch of supporting characters stagnate because the hero reduces them to prized possessions rather than individuals in their own right, you know you have a problem.

How is Twilight holding her friends back? How is Goku holding his friends back? Twilight gave her power up for her friends, it wasn't even her power to begin with. She cares about her friends and wants them to be the best they can be.

Goku cares about his friends too. He willingly sacrifices himself multiple times for them. He encourages them, and helps them when they are in trouble. You're not making any sense.

And besides, Dragon Ball Z is one of the worst anime to have ever been crapped out into America and dubbed into something "extreme" and "cool".  It's overhyped, milked to death, and is so badly written, overly draggy and repetitive, and imbalanced in its own ensemble cast, that all the praise given to it just baffles me.

I don't want to compare DBZ with MLP, because neither of those shows are comparable with each other.  The former is a hyper-violent fight fest on the level of those two other Hasbro toy franchises, Transformers and G.I. Joe.  The latter, on the other hand, is a show about friendship and sentimentality, not idiotic violence that reduce viewers' intelligence.  Yes, G4 MLP is currently nothing like G3 MLP, because it replaced saccharine stupidity with actual conflict and character-development.  But it shouldn't go so far as to become one of my most hated anime to have ever existed, either.

I'm just so bucking sick and tired of Dragon Ball Z.  I'm tired of hearing it repeated ad naseum and beaten to death, both by fans as well as corporate executives alike.  I'm sick of it being treated like the ultimate anime in the universe, even though it's terrible.  Even Themanime.org considered it terrible: http://www.themanime.org/viewreview.php?id=245

So why continue beating that god damn, mother-bucking dead buckity buck-flank horse (no pun intended)?

Well, Shep, I liked the DBZ inspired battle scene but I'm not drooling over it like some fanboys.  I'm almost willing to admit it may be, shudder the though, overrated.  It ended in a stalemate because no single pony, no matter how much power was handed to them, was going to defeat Tirek.

The good news is that the most powerful magic in all of Equestria, the Elements of Harmony/Rainbow Power, can only be wielded by a TEAM.  That means the rest of the Mane 6 will always be relevant.  I'm just trying to come up with a good headcanon on how Princess Celestia was able to use them by herself against Nightmare Moon in the Season opener flashback.

I admit DBZ has flaws. I admit that it has a lot of flaws. I still like it. Is there something wrong with that? It didn't make me any stupider, if anything it was a positive influence. I got my first real friend through a common interest in the show, I had tons of fun watching it and playing the games.

I wanted to be like Goku for a time. Strong but caring and kind. I changed my mind later, but I still like the character, and the show. You don't have to like it, but there's no need for the hostility.

Good.  Unfortunately, that scene is constantly being overshadowed by the Twilight/Tirek fight scene, just because the former was rushed while the latter was more suspenseful and better paced.  And that pisses me off, because the Rainbow Power scene restored Twilight's friends' relevancy.

But the question is how did it restore their relevancy if they were never irrelevant to begin with?

When was it ever hinted that Twilight thinks her friends were ever irrelevant? Frankly, I've been seeing her worrying about them, trying to make sure they can give their best and putting them back on the right track if they did something wrong. If they were irrelevant to her, she wouldn't do any of this.

Here's the thing.  The blue box containing Rainbow Power was supposed to be the ultimate solution to the Tirek problem.  But then, the writers deliberately abandoned it for the sake of giving Twilight the other princesses' alicorn magic, even though that kind of thing would inevitably fail.  Which was why I was thankful that the Rainbow Power box -- and the real magic, that of friendship -- was eventually brought back...

...And yet people cared more about Twilight's one-on-one fight with Tirek than the Rainbow Power scene in the climax.  The fact that the one-on-one magic fight between Twilight and Tirek stole most of the two-part finale was what stripped Twilight's friends of their relevancy, even when they received Rainbow Power.

They did not "deliberately" abandon the box for the fight scene. Twilight didn't have her key yet. How could they open it without all six keys? And Tirek was in the way of the sixth key. Also, Twilight was pretty pissed off because Golden Oaks Library got destroyed... y'know, that happened?

You don't seem to have paid any attention to the plot other than finding some way to put Twilight down. Shame on you.
