They actually weren't that imaginative  thats just the nostalgia speaking. I think that the Pokemon games have been slowly improving, albiet, very slow. The first generations are the best still missing things that add a lot of depth to pokemon (see EVs and stats) I feel like a lot of the newer games offer more entertainment, but at the same time, nothing will ever match up to the original three. Even Leaf green and Fire red. They aren't the same.

na the first gen is definitely the most imaginative.  So many of them are based off real mythology too.  Now pokemon are based off trashbags and icecream

Because it's not like Pokemon were based off rocks and pokeballs before. Maybe I'm so defensive because 5th gen is one of my favorite gens if not my overall favorite, but every gen had really crappy Pokemon. Of course with the good comes the bad, so for every Trubish and Metapod we got an Arcanine or a Gallade. And yes I was around for the 1st generation. Granted I didn't play the games until a while after but I watched the original cartoon every single day.

N is right. Each generation had its bad Pokemon we are just jaded by nostalgia.

Ok so maybe Gen4 isn't THAT good, but it does have some instant favorites. More so than any other gen I think.

I like all the gens, albiet I haven't played 5.(No DS anymore.) 1 and 2 were my personal favorites, but that's certainly the nostalgia talking.

Gen 1 and 2 were the absolute best. Soooo much nostalgia ;_;

Also, the pokemon were much more creative and original. 

While gen 2 is my fave (Crystal), I must disagree. Thats nostalgia talking. The only difference now is the maths and the more story-driven gameplay. Which I like.

Gen 4 is my personal favorite, and I expect Gen 6 to be full of shit.

I can't say that Gen 1 is the most creative, since that is sort of an opinion. I am no true pokemon fan, so I don't care that much.

I will never get the hate on vanilite. I find an ice cream pokemon pretty imaginaitive.

Vanilitnite is actually the most powerful non-lengendary ice types in terms of stats.

Besides, he is at least better than a slude with eyes or a seal spelled seel. :/

(Note, i like grimer and seel, but the argument of the pokemon being unimaginative is pretty bad,)
