Common Windows 8 Complaints

Discorded Bluenote

(Yes I'm doing this! >:U )

Windows 8 is the newest platform from Windows, and it has caused much confusion and complaints over it's style. I'm going to clear this up.

1. Start Screen?!? What about my Start Button and Desktop??

Calm down, Windows 7 fantast. The Start button is replaced by the Start Screen. The Desktop is just like always. You can only pin things on the Start Screen, however.

Desktop also has Personalization like Win 7 (Windows 7, expect a lot of shortenings.), so don't worry about it. You can even download all of your previous programs! (Note: Win RT will NOT let you do this. It only uses apps from the app store.)

2. MICROSOFT IS GOING MOBLIE

Forgot the exclamation point. Anyways, it already has. Seen the windows phone yet?

The two stores are not merged though.

3. I AIN'T GOT TIME FO DOS APPS1

You should. There are some notable ones too, like Music (Xbox Music), Desktop, Youtube Player, Google Search, Wikipedia, and Windows 8 Guide.

4. Is there <Insert Fandom here>?

Maybe. If your talking poni, a few. Furry, no idea, and any others, no idea. Go check yourself. :U

5. Too Few Features.

Many* I fixed your sentence. Download All about Money, Goals, TuneIn Radio, Skype, Skydrive, Maps, etc.

Am I missing some complaints? Put them in the comments below! Thank you!

Here are my complaints:

  • Flash is always flipping out on internet explorer in Windows 8
  • Finding programs is more difficult. For example, I still don't know how to get to basics like MS Paint
  • I'm always switching programs when I try to click on things near the corner of my screen.
  • It's too much like Apple.
  • More difficult and complicated to use in general.

Hit Windows + C or move the mouse up to the top right corner of the screen and hit search. Or better yet, start typing from the Start Screen.

There is always other browsers. Google Chrome is compatible with Win 8. There is also the desktop, where you can download other browsers (But not Win RT)

That is a problem that is just with the limitations you have to live with.

I don't have to do that often, however.

Yes, it is. However, switching before Win 7's End Of Life will let you have more time to adjust, and all than don't will have an abrupt change when finding new computers.

My biggest issue is, the way I set up my Windows 7 Start Menu, means i have quick access to less frequently used programs, as to not place them on my desktop. But Windows 8 doesn't allow this easy organisation. In fact it makes it a lot slower for me and disallows me to use Windows in the way I am used to and comfortable to.

There is also the option of pinning Windows 7 programs on the start screen.

I used to complain a lot about Windows 8 when I first started using it, now I really like it. Other than a few minor quirks, its better than 7, in my opinion. My only gripe is that Windows XP Mode no longer works, which is ok since I can put XP in a Virtual Machine.

I have the Start Screen set up so that "Metro" apps are on the left, and other apps are on the right. Simple, yet efficient enough for me, I also don't have to dig through a menu to find what I am looking for.

Actually there are a few ways to go about that. You can type "mspaint" for Paint, "calc" for Calculator, and "note" for notepad. Of course, search from the Start Screen like Third Octavia mentioned. When they show up, though, right click on the tile, and then click "Pin to Start" on the bottom of the screen, and it will appear everytime you open the Start Screen.

I just like the classical look of Win7 and back, I don't really care for many of these new features that Win8 has, and naturally,I'm just going to stick to Win7 until I really need to update.

Plus I don't really like the look and layout of Win8.

Windows 8 is just an attempt to make your computer work like a tablet. To fully utilize it, you'd have to invest quite a lot in a touch screen monitor. No thanks, Microsoft! I'll keep Windows 7!

Windows 7 is fine with me... I hate the layout of Windows 8. It's much too fluffy and mobilized. I prefer being able to do stuff with my technology, thanks.

From what I read here, it's just Windows 7 but more complicated and a new interface.

So I think I'll stick with 7 :/

I know how to pin stuff to the start screen, that's not the issue, the start screen is slower in use, it's big and bulky and in the way.

This organisation i did is quick and easy to use, the Wndows 8 on my laptop can just never match how quickly this is to use. Not in a million years. Pinning things to this start was quick access. Pinning things to Windows 8 start is slower and more annoying access cause all those stupid tiles. And I still can't find everything.

I can't play Dark Souls on my new laptop, not compatible.

Games for Windows Live not compatible with Windows 8?!

gg Windows.

Note: This isn't a ranting page, this was made to clear confusion. I was NOT trying to move people over to the new version, and if you do, for any reason, it isn't my direct fault.

Now.

Games for Windows Live not compatible with Windows 8?!

Windows Live is moving over to Xbox and Skype. Said so on the Windows website. That was a bad move in my opinion.

And I still can't find everything.

Right click on the Start Screen and click all apps..?

If for programs, you can find them all under uninstall, but I dun do dat.

It's called the mobile movement. ;3

Which is what Windows is trying to do.

It's much too fluffy and mobilized

I don't understand what you mean by fluffy.

Finally! Someone gets it! :D

Nope.

I use a laptop for Win 8, and I'm getting my money's worth.

My Grandma's really...

Win 8 is compatible with Touch and Mouse interfaces.

To be fair, I've always hated how Windows Vista and 7 start menu's were (in comparison to that of Windows XP) so I welcomed the new change.  I prefer quick clicking than scrolling.

Windows 8 isn't bad, but it's unpolished. The not-metro interface smells of beta. The start button is gone because "We killed it" according to some div at microsoft whose name I've forgotten out of rage. Getting to the control panel is awkward and the settings menu is duplicating functionality. Going into the UEFI on my mother's new laptop that it was installed on required me to go into advanced settings, which required a restart, and then click on access UEFI, which required a restart, rather than say, just pressing F2 like a normal PC. Like I said, its not bad. It didn't crash and it wasn't any slower than 7, but it isn't polished and is going through some growing pains. Luckly for me though I got to replace it with Linux Mint 14 at her discretion which makes my life easier.
