LOL - MLP dissed by little girl

I might write a long account of my experience at the UK's convention "BUCK" later, but I wanted to tell you about a funny experience I had on a bus on the way from Manchester Airport to the city:

An senior lady entered the bus with her niece, who was like the perfect target audience for MLP in any way; must have been between 5 and 7. I talked to the lady and mentioned MLP and the convention and we chatted. She asked her niece whether she had heard of My Little Pony, and the little girl said, in a rejecting, kinda snobbish tone of voice, something like: Yeah, I know what it is. ... But it's for little girls!

I guess from a different perspective it's not just funny, but also a little sad that we live in a society where some young girls deny their age, their identity, and thus, in a way, their childhood. Has society become so unsupportive of childlike nature that the desire to be all 'grown-up' has permeated through teenager level into kids' age?

Of course it's just one case, but I still find it a bit sad. ... In retrospect, that is. At first it was really just ironically funny.

I'm so happy that MLP inspires so many people to nourish and maybe even rediscover their inner child.

To be honest, I think it's less that she's disconnected from her innocence or something, and more like she's basing her opinion on MLP as a whole on the older generations, i.e. the most widely known versions of the franchise. And can you really blame her?

It's funny, a child's greatest wish is to be all grown up, but an adult's greatest wish is to be young again.

Eh, some little kids don't like when they're treated like babies, and that causes them to try to act like they're much older than they really are. I don't think it's that big of a worry, but I definitely think that the girl would be happier if she just embraced her age rather than try to avoid it.

Well, I mentioned the whole G4 show revival by Lauren Faust at an early point, and considering her age, it might be unlikely that she consciously encountered G3 toys.

Well, adults are on average more messed up with fear complexes, and when those control people, they try to perpetuate themselves, and innocent and joyful, careless children are like an insult to fears. Children easily believe what adults tell them. Those adults who wish they were children again are a different kind than those who try to convince others that they should be afraid, too.

I can understand her. She's trying to think of herself as a "Big Girl". She's not going to want to admit to liking cartoons. It doesn't mean that she actually doesn't watch.

To me, she's probably repeating what somebody probably told her. Maybe she told a friend that she liked it, and her friend said it was for babies, blah blah blah. Maybe her family just didn't approve of us bronies. That's just sad.
