No, it's not the networking, it's the job. I did enjoy setting up virtual servers for various services like routing, DNS, DHCP, mail server, proxy server, or even those annoying traffic thingy, but in industry, it's not very likely that you will always tinker around it. If your network is running properly, you won't have any interesting task to do. I've talked to some of my friends and they said that being a network admin is boring.

And what exactly are you doing with two instances of Windows 8 running at the same time with no router or server OS?

I rarely liked networking when I was still studying it. I always thought the job would be boring, so I moved to programming. I don't know what my friends who are focused on networking are doing in their companies now, but I find developing web like what I do now is a lot of fun.

I thought you were studying network routing, or setting up some kind of server. :v

Nah, I believe I've seen it before. You can always use Google, though. According to my experience, having a virtual interface connected to NAT has contributed on numbers of failing students in my class during the practice exams. I even almost failed once because of it.

Have you ever wondered if you can enable it without re-installing VMWare? It's a possibility which is very likely to exist. I believe a networking student could have seen it on the first glance.

Well, I didn't know you're a networking student seeing that you have a problem with connecting a VM to the Internet.

      It works now?

Why do you need a virtual machine anyway? Studying networking?

I believe you need to enable bridging for that. I just forget where is the option in VMWare. The last time I played with it was one and a half year ago.

Or you can simply connect it to VMnet1 (Or whichever), set the IP for both interfaces, try to ping to each other, and test its connection to the rest of the peers on your physical network.

That's exactly what your problem is. Either connect it to one of the virtual interfaces on the physical machine, which still can meet a problem with the Internet sharing, or simply bridge it.

And the one on the virtual machine is? It has to be connected to one of the physical machine's virtual interfaces, or to make it easier, just bridge the damn thing.

Tell me about its network interfaces. Bridged? Or at least where it sits on the virtual network.

Yeah, illegal drivers. There are still trojan, worm, and other malware that can penetrate Windows security these days.

Depends on the business. If a computer is just for typing reports and other simple stuff, Windows will be sufficient. If it's a computer used as a server or router, or simply anything Windows isn't capable to do or can't guarantee the security, people will use Linux. Well, most routers these days use Mikrotik, but still.

Windows what? There are Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8 x64. Of course the security improves, but it's still worse than Linux because of the system design.

I hope more companies realize that Linux users are growing from days by days and take the marketing advantage. SDL is very good for gaming already.

No. Not virus. Linux's security isn't flawless, indeed. Being able to hack a Linux isn't so surprising, but virus? Nah.

Just say I make this small program to get the root password. It's purpose is to read the file where the passwords are stored, and secretly send it to my email when the client is connected to the Internet, like a trojan. Here, my program can't read the target file because the user isn't running as root (only fools will run on root for daily...

I'm using Linux all the time. Don't talk to me as if I'm new to it.

To make it simple, you can't make changes to Linux file system without root privilege, which requires the action to enter the password every single time it wants to make a change. That prevents unwanted software to do things without the user knowing. Privileges are very carefully managed in Linux. In Windows, once you log in as an 'administrator', you can make changes to the file system with...
