better target like the white house or the pentagon, you guy are really overestimating the damage, and on top of that, the space elevator would not be carrying people, only supplies to the people already in space, nothing would be accomplished if some one destroyed it, besides, if terrorists wanted to attack some thing space related they would go after the kennedy space center in flordia, and the space elevator would not even be a traditional elevator, theres the base, which is a building, and...

the top is another structure, the rest is a long cable made of carbon fiber nano tubes, the way it keeps afloat is using the earths rotation as centrifugal force, and besides, the base wouldnt be near a populated area anyway
