    1900

Welcome to my new blog. Join me on a journey through the greatest of centuries (the 20th), as we look back on the music that shaped and molded our millennium in utero. What are the rules? It's simple: One song per artist. Apart from that, anything goes. Every day, I post one song from the 20th century, working my way up year by year until we conclude in 1999. Along the way, we will see musical styles change drastically with the years. We will see entire genres and disciplines rise and fall. An entire century will pass before our ears. Today, we begin our voyage through time in the year 1900. The late Victorian era, just after the end of the Gay Nineties. Today's recording is Bird in a Gilded Cage by Steve Porter.
  2. Who would be interested in a blog series where I post 100 songs from the 20th century, working my way up by one year each day?

  3. Actually, it's best that you don't go with a single breed. The breeding process may result in some very cute puppies, but it also leads to a host of health issues. Mixing the breeds gets rid of these problems, assuming they're tied to recessive genes. My dog is half boxer, and half something else entirely. He's a little hellraiser when you leave him alone, but he's a smart, caring little puppy who loves people and loves to play.
  4. Not even close. We fought a 5 year long war based on secession. There isn't a snowball's chance in hell of it being permitted. However, in some circumstances, states are allowed to split apart into two or more separate states, provided both states remain in the union. Most famously, this was how West Virginia was formed. Doing this strictly for bronies, however, seems pretty pointless.
  5. Not Christian, but I know good music when I hear it. Always preferred upbeat gospel to straight hymns, but that's just me. Anywho, does Johnny Cash count as a hymn?
  6. As someone who has been watching more Mad Men than could possibly be healthy, I have learned that bigger isn't always better. Best Night Ever is one of my favorite episodes for a reason. Hell, the concept of ending each season with an epic climax didn't even come about until the massively overrated Canterlot Wedding. FiM, like most shows, is at its best when it slows down and smells the roses. I'm fine with epics when they're nuanced and smart (see: Return of Harmony), but that's hardly ever the case. Give us something simple for S5, and take us back to the roots of the series.
  7. How do you think Captain America got his start? This long predates Adam West as Batman. And more on topic, it was the era that made the fedora synonymous with cool.
  8. Finally caught up with Mad Men. God, how I wish there was more. ;_;

  9. Oh my, now Scott's just patting himself on the back. If there's one thing I can give the first two games, it's that they got uncanny valley down pat, and that setting it in a Pizza Place was actually a very good idea. And now, in FNAF 3, Scott literally just wrote a storyline about how scary his games are, and he did so by removing the one great idea his games had. The one thing that gave them any kind of subtlety or uniqueness.
  10. Before, I would just listen to whatever was on the radio, but I had a specific love for rock, pop, and orchestral. The oldest stuff I listened to was 80s hair metal. When I joined, I almost immediately formed a reactionary, blood-curdling distaste for the majority of brony music. Not all, but definitely the vast majority. This soon spread to almost all electronic music (with the exception of ambient sci-fi music. I still adore that shit.), and then eventually to almost all modern music in general (again, though, there are certainly exceptions). Nowadays, about 90% of what I listen to is mid 20th century classics (from the late 30s to early-mid 70s), but with special exemptions given to modern songs that stand out from the crowd. So, basically Rock, Jazz, Blues, Big Band, Swing, and classic R+B.
  11. @@Yoshi89, "Okay, fair enough," Greyshod resigned, "Let's cut to brass tacks, shall we? What did you see during the shooting?" Lockjaw excused himself, ostensibly for a cigarette. "I'll be back in a few. Keep him on his toes for me, Grey." (OOC: That's really good. I think I'll use that.)
  12. Hey guys, some crucial plot details just got leaked. This is a doozie.
  13. I can sing the Italian parts of a few Dean Martin songs decently, with sufficient rehearsal.
  14. @, Alright, just give me a character entry that I can link in the OP. What's his occupation?
  15. @@Yoshi89, "Hand?" Lockjaw snorted, "What the hell are you, some kind of fascist Griffon?" "Clam it," Greyshod sighed, "It's been a really mild winter, wouldn't you say? Even in Manehattan, it hasn't really snowed since Hearth's Warming." "Pegashits are the laziest sons of..." Lockjaw intoned, staring out the open door as Beansprout bent down to pick up a box of papers. "ANYWAY," Greyshod interrupted, "I may not be an expert on parks, but I took my family to Astro Park back in the fall of '49. It was cold as hell, but we went. Is the closure just seasonal? Because the temperature doesn't really seem to matter."
  16. @, Just spitballing ideas to make the story more interesting.
  17. @, Traditional state armies aren't perfect either. Now, I'm not saying we should make them cartoonishly evil or anything of the sort. But, for the sake of avoiding having an obvious "good guy," maybe they simply sweep any incidents under the rug, if it involves a high ranking or otherwise exceptionally profitable individual. Example: a prestigious Major in Equestrian Strategies takes advantage of a Saddle Arabian mare, but he isn't punished, and the crime never comes to light. The woman is paid for her silence, and the world turns as if it had never happened.
  18. @, It's the 50s, so yes, there are nuclear weapons, but they're alot harder to get a hold of than they are today. For Saddle Arabia to be nuclear, the weapons would have to have been provided to them by either the Equestrians (or one of their allies) or the Changelings. Perhaps the RIA agent is doing all of the above. He's spying on the Prench to find evidence that would damn the war in the face of international law, he's investigating war crimes on behalf of the mercenaries, and he's trying to investigate a possible connection between the Saddle Arabian rebels (or the government, for that matter) and the Changelings. Come to think of it, I should really put out a radio news segment about the war. Haven't done one of those in a while...
  19. That sounds like a good idea, but what's the story justification? Is he undercover, and spying on the Prench?
  20. Learning to step away when somebody says something maddeningly stupid. It can get fucking tough, but I need to.
