I was ACTUALLY a bit disappointing that the rest of the mane 6 besides twilight looked old and had bags under their eyes, but i guess the story is about twilight she IS the main character of the entire story.

I think it is that same "issue" that the Frenemies episode had, where the bell wasn't well hidden (at the end) just so the viewer would see it.
They are probably not that old, as they are portrayed, but the story required them to be visible older. The easiest way is to add bags under eyes, rather than redraw most shapes.
Most of the Mane 6 parents look a lot younger (maybe saving Equestria so many times took its toll on them).
