I call myself an Olive Garden Italian, in that I'm Italian by descent but not of the actual culture or norms or anything of that nature, nor do I know a lick of the language.

I would also say that Avatar (though one of my favorite animated series'!) is not anime, in that it isn't eastern animation- it is western animation that borrows heavily from anime.

Though it seems that that brings up the point of what anime actually is. To us westerners, anime is the specific style of cartoon that comes from Japan and other Asian countries, but in those countries, anime just means cartoons.
