Crustalization (Alternately: Crustylization): Dirt, corrosion, or other such detritus that has acumulated on a suface, forming a layer with properties similiar to crystal. The crystaline properties mimicked by the crustalization may be but are not limited to: brittleness, transparency, sharpness, etc.
Crustalization is most often used to describe the accumulation of an undesired material. Ffor example, if one was attempting to form sugar crystals, crustalization would not technically be the correct word but may be used anyways. examples: The black char that build up on a BBQ grill's grilling surface may be refered to as crustalization or the grill may be said to have been crustalized. The corrosion that forms on battery terminals while technically a mass of true crystals may be refered to as crustalization.
