I like dark versions of heroes. The concept may work better for some heroes than others, and it is a bit overused, but it's kind of like a "what-if" scenario where the hero is actually a villain/anti-hero. I may not hate Rarity, but I can't stand the fact that she's such a snob! Silver the Hedgehog's head looks more like a maple leaf than a pot leaf. Yeah, that goes against the rules of Death Battle. The first rule is that ALL battles MUST end with a death. I have to disagree. Rainbow Dash's Sonic Rainboom is just a colorful sonic boom, which happens during at least Mach 1 or 2. Even then, that takes her tremendous effort. Sonic's speed has be confirmed to be beyond that. Not only that, but Sonic has more experience, durability, and more impressive feats than Rainbow currently has. Rainbow is also more arrogant, and hence is more likely to screw up do to her extreme cockiness. Sonic is also more experienced in fighting. That's not to say the Blue Blur isn't without flaws. Sonic is also arrogant, and is still very likely to fuck up because of it. He may be able to jump high and have a homing attack, but he can't fly and the homing has limited range, so if RD flies high enough, Sonic will have a tougher time catching her. As for going Super, Super Sonic is nearly invincible, travels at the speedos light, and can fly, so Rainbow can't do jack shit to SS. Pfft! I bet Popeye could never hold a candle to the Godly power of Magikarp!

Well, besides Pikachu, Mewtwo is arguably one of the most popular Pokémon ever. He was dark, cool, mysterious, and just overall badass! Mewtwo has been in the hearts of many Pokémon Trainers for decades, and seeing him in a game about Nintendo all-stars fighting each other made fans extremely happy. We were all saddened when he didn't come back for Brawl, and when we heard SSB4 was gonna be a thing, most of us were praying for Mewtwo to be in it. But then he wasn't, that saddened us even further, and I don't think most were expecting DLC for Smash Bros. But then, when we saw those feet, then the entire model, then "Mewtwo is On the Way!", our hearts exploded. Our Mewtwo was back. And he won't be forgotten. Well, there's your reason right there. You never played Pokémon, so you have no idea what Mewtwo was and how big a deal he was back then. That, paired with thefact you didn't play Melee, also means that you didn't get to experience the joy Melee players had when they got to play as the legendary Mewtwo.
