I don't really like to think about The Split. For me, it's one of the biggest facepalm inducing things in motorsports, right after the politics that led to the demise of Group C.

It's almost always politics in some way; either that or economics in the case of LMP1 at this point as well. Yah know, I wasn't that much of a general racing fan until the early 2000s and at that time it felt kinda nice have two American open wheel series to watch, though as time went on it became apparent that one would have to go away in some form.

It was also the same sort of thing with GRAND-AM and IMSA, except it was actual competition instead of a pissing match. In this case, economics was the reason for their merger.
