Why are there people up in arms when someone spoils the story of super mario odyssey?
Guys, these games are not rocket science from a story perspective. Bowser kidnaps peach, Mario rescues peach, the end.
The mario games where always strong from a gameplay perspective and that's what Nintendo is good at doing.

Actually the only controversy I've been hearing about the story is the ending where
SpoilerPrincess Peach rejects BOTH Mario and Bowser and just wanted to go home after being dragged around the world. At least in the post-game, she actually been found in certain spots of each of the levels, apparently finally getting to see the sights for herself.
The Creator of the Mario series even said that Mario, Peach, and Bowser are like actors. They usually play the hero, damsel, and villain respectively most of the time just to give the game its excuse for Mario (and the player) to go on the adventure through wondrous places and challenges that is the game-play, which is the real thing that separates each game in the series from the other with its own identity.
Heck, this is the reason why in the spinoff games like Mario Kart and Mario Golf, All 3 characters CAN get along like friends. The usual Hero rescue Damsel from Villain dynamic is just part of the show.

I wonder if, in between games, Mario and Bowser get together for beer pong or something?
