Personally I like to think that Spike is older than he looks. despite being transformed into a dog when in the human world, I like to think that he's more like a young teenage boy around the Cutie Mark Crusaders age if he's human.

Heck don't forget that snips and snails and Trixie's debut had Spike speaking with Snips and Snails like they're friends but they really don't interact with each other all that much that you wouldn't think that they're friends; probably acquaintances at best
