    In our society, it's easy to get caught up in the fast pace of our world and lose our sensitivity to one another. But compassion is one of the most beautiful and selfless emotions we possess. It transcends differing cultures, brings us together, and helps to mend each others wounds. I realized that I didn't know the word for it in Japanese; which is why I'm sharing it with you. ^-^

    Living this life to our fullest requires some degree of courage. Whether it's stepping out and making new friends; learning a language; or facing difficult circumstances head on. To be courageous is trait that I and many of you aspire and work towards one step at a time. It's just a matter of bringing out what is already inside...like the cowardly lion. #corny_but_true, lol. ^-^

    Hello everyone! ^-^ As some of you may know, I have been studying Japanese for several years now. I haven't, however, been studying much this year; which has resulted in loss of vocabulary. For this reason, I created this blog to learn and keep track of new (and relevant) words on a daily basis; as well as to share them with you all! It's a win win! If you're studying Japanese as well -- or have a remote interest in the language -- I hope this helps in your language journey or ignites your interest in it! So without further ado...

    If you have any questions about the language -- be it, grammar, studying tips, Kanji etc. -- feel free to ask down in the comments section or through PM. I'll be glad to help however I can! じゃあ、またね!^-^

    Hello everyone,

    I suppose this is a rather strange request, haha. But I'm looking for an Atheist, a Roman Catholic, and a Muslim who are willing to be interviewed for my intercultural communication class assignment. I don't know anyone that are a part of these three groups in real life and your help would really be appreciated. ^^ Here are the questions:

    1. What role does religion play in your family?

    2. Specifically, how has religion helped shape your family and the relationship among its members?

    3. Does your family talk openly about religion often? Have there been conflicts in your family that centered on religion?

    4. Does your family eat dinner together?

    5. Is there a great deal of "play" and humor in your family?

    6. Does your family share leisure time together?

    If you are interesting in helping me out, you can post your answers in the comment section -- or if you prefer more privacy, you can send them to me via PM. Thanks in advance!

    (To avoid the possibility of more than one of each group answering, I'll keep tabs below so people can know if I have a interviewee in a certain group. So far there are none yet.)

    One Roman Catholic
    One Muslim
    One Atheist

    Thanks to all the people that decided to be interviewed. Thank you guys! /)

    I'm not sure about anyone else, but I love to watch people in public places. That's right, just sitting and watching people -- but not in a stalking way. Today at a mall, me and my family took a break from what we were doing and just sat down. I took the opportunity to just watch people that were going about their way. It's very interesting to see how people act and interact with each other. And you learn a lot about people and get to see into their lives -- even if only a glimpse. There is a saying that people wear their lives on their sleeves; from the clothes they wear, to how they talk, walk, and act around others. And it's true.

    Why is people watching so interesting? I guess because I just care about people. When you go out side, just watch. Watch a father and his child walk hand in hand together; or a couple that's clearly in a rough patch even though they smile. And you just may see what I mean. If your a writer, you can get some of your best story ideas by just watching people. Sometimes we can get detached from others and get engrossed in our own lives; so just stop and look around you. Don't judge, just observe and take note of what you see. It has a way of making you appreciate people more and have more compassion for the struggles we all go through in a world that has caused people grow indifferent and distant from one another.

    Hello all,

    Since posting my story on Fim-fiction less than a month ago, I've learned quite a bit. I'm still a newbie to this new world on MLP story telling and I still have a long way as a writer. But some thoughts have been swirling in my mind, so why not share them here?

    I never knew how frightening sharing your work with others could be. It's easy to say that it's no big deal; that is, until you actually do it yourself. After waking up the morning after my story was published, I felt like I had a knot in my stomach! And I had to find the courage to check to see how my story was doing.

    Going into this, I thought that people would like my story as much as I did. I was optimistic, excited, and really nervous. Checking my story that day and seeing another down vote, tore at me. I tried to not let it bother me, but slowly and surely as more people down voted I literally wanted to cry. So many questions popped into my head. Why didn't they like it? Why won't anyone comment? Am I a bad writer? I had to push these thoughts aside -- I realized I got caught up.

    I was being prideful and having people down vote something I worked so hard on really knocked me off my high horse. And that was a good thing.

    I learned from this experience so far that it takes a lot of guts to do something worth while. Nothing worth having comes without a challenge. This has challenged me as a writer more than any other situation. Am I going to give up? -- or am I gonna keep going? As discouraging and frustrating as it is, the former is not an option.

    I realized I care too much. I cared too much about what others thought or what others will think. And I let that influence my writing. Reading my story now, it doesn't have the same spark anymore. I came into this with the mentality that I'm writing this for myself more than anyone else. But over time, this faded away without me noticing. I began writing for others; and not for myself first.

    I see now how it feels to be on the receiving end of a down vote...it's not fun. I let it slowly chip away at my motivation to write the story. I respect people's stories more now as a result. When you down vote a sorry; it's not just a story. It's someone's hard work manifest and down voting it can be like down voting writer. It's really easy to take it personal. And it hurts, I imagine especially if your new. Now, when I see a story I like, I go out of my way to say so; because I know how much I wanted to see someone praise my work but never did. And if I read a story I don't like, I will give it a fair chance before I down vote and explain why if I do.

    Seeing other people's work do better than your own is hard. And I had to fight off jealousy. There was one story I read that was published around the same time as mine and it was good. Inside l didn't want to acknowledge it, though. But I realized how silly that was and gave a comment and like. It's really easy to be jealous of other people's work and success while you see your own flounder. But it taught me to be truly happy for other people when they succeed; even if I don't. ^^

    I don't know if I will continue with the story or take it down; but I'm not giving up. Since coming to these realizations and changing my mentality on these things, new ideas are manifesting themselves out of no where. And writing them is fun; not work. They aren't filtered through what I think people would like to read -- I like the stories first and truly. More than likely I'll post them on Fim-fiction, but this time with a new set of lenses after everything I learned with the last one.

    These are just some of my thoughts. Feel free to comment.

    Hi everyone!

    I came into a little bit of cash and I decided to spend it on a MLP t-shirt! I've narrowed it down to three that I really like, but I can't decide which one I want. Which do you think is the best -- atheistically speaking? I really would like your opinions. Here they are:

    I am in no way a poetess, but these are just some thoughts I had about the riots taking place in Baltimore -- that so happened to come out as a poem and I just went with it.

    Dear Baltimore,

    My heart breaks that you are so sad;

    I see past the anger and I understand why your mad.

    You're fed up with the way you've been treated;

    Another black death is again repeated.

    You need an outlet to release your rage;

    You want freedom from this cage

    Of oppression, violence, and the like;

    You're tired of sitting hands; you're ready to fight!

    But wait! There's gotta be another way;

    Violence, arson, and looting is not okay.

    I know it feels right, but it is very wrong;

    You'll find you've done more harm than good all along.

    So dear Baltimore, I hope that you hear me;

    Think twice about what you're doing --

    Because the whole world is watching.

    Enough destruction has been had;

    Instead, work towards the future, and hold solemnly to the past.

    Strive for a better future for your children;

    Not leave your own community in desolation and ruin,

    Dear Baltimore.

    建前 is a tricky word to translate because there isn't a word for it in English. Some explanation is needed to understand it. ^-^ In Japanese culture, 建前 means to say what one ought to say to keep harmony and peace within a working or impersonal relationship. There is a stereotype about the Japanese that they don't always tell the truth. This isn't for malicious intent, at all -- but to keep the peace. For example, if you ever talk to a Japanese person in their language, they will often tell you that you're very skilled at it. I'm afraid to say that most of the time this isn't true; they simply are trying not to hurt your feelings. Even though other cultures don't have a word for this social function, we all do it. This video will explain it much better and explain 本音(honne) -- the opposite of 建前.

    I've been thinking today about how I choose to express myself artistically and came to some personal realizations about some things. So, this blog is aimed at myself, but if it resonates with any of you, that's great; which is why I chose to write this.

    The MLP fandom is made up of an incredibly talented people and some have pulled their talents together to make a name for this community. There is so much fan music, fan art, and fan fictions out on the web. Being a naturally artistic person myself, I know that I can be a part in adding to this fandom. And I have so far with writing a MLP fan fiction; with more stories that I haven't published. But upon some introspection, I realized that I've abandoned other original endeavors for ready-made ones. What I mean by this is that I have ideas -- original ideas -- that I have just sat on for awhile now in favor of writing or drawing MLP related things.

    Now, there is nothing wrong with fan works -- at all. But personally, I feel that I have paid way too much attention to it than cultivating other original ideas that I have. And now I know why. It is much easier, for example, to write for pre-made characters that already have their own personality and back-story than it is to make your own. It is much easier, to write in a pre-made world than it is to design your own. For me, I paid more attention to MLP related things, because I didn't know how to create a likable world and characters on my own. And this is mainly because I filtered it through what I see in MLP. How can I make such lovable characters? How can a fashion such an intriguing world? I became intimidated from deviating from what I knew worked; but I also was lazy in putting effort into my ideas as well.

    I came to the realization that I, in a sense, feared originality. I feared that I couldn't live up to -- or write up to -- what I saw in this show. But this was wrong frame of mind that I didn't know I had until today. I compared and in that comparing I discouraged myself from trying something new. When in reality, I can build a unique world just as intriguing and even more so in its own way. And I can create lovable characters the resonates with the reader. The only true limit is not only my imagination, but the limit that I place upon myself. That's not to say that I won't write fan fictions or draw art -- because I still enjoy doing it. But what it does mean is that from now on, I will pay equal (if not more) attention to my completely original ideas.

    Again this, of course, is not meant to put anyone down for MLP fan-works. This is personal to me and what I've come to realization about myself. Feel free to comment, if you'd like.

    This is just another one of my pondering sessions and I'm inviting you all to join in with me. If my thoughts seem a little bit all over the place, that's mainly because I'm writing whatever comes to mind.

    So, happiness? What is it? Everyone wants this simply thing called happiness; it drives us in our decisions, friends, hobbies etc. Without it, life feels like it isn't worth living. At the same time, the very thing we want is the very thing we are afraid of. What's standing between you and happiness? For that matter, what's standing between me and happiness? I think I know what it is; fear.

    To have happiness, you have to face your deepest fears. We all have them; they haunt us when a opportunity of happiness presents itself. That last hurdle that follows us at every turn. Relentless. It seems like when were so close, fear makes you feel like you're so far away. Do you want to be an artist? Then you're probably afraid of what people will think of your work? Do you want to be a novelist? Then you may be afraid people will hate your writings. Heck, do you want to climb Mount Everest? You just might be afraid of heights? Do you see?

    Whatever you want to be happy is what your most afraid of. How about this...Do you want to be yourself? What do you think the fear is? There's no reason for me to answer that, because we all know what it is. You see, it takes bravery to be happy. It takes effort to have joy. It doesn't just plop in your lap and we all know this. A lot of have this helplessness and feel like we have to wait for happiness. When in reality that's not how this element works. Happiness is for those who chase it. But unfortunately, many are tired of running. It just seems too far to attain; like it evades capture. As much as it feels impossible, it's really isn't. Everyone has skeletons in their closest; it takes courage to clear them out and start fresh.

    It takes valor to be happy; to face your fears to have what you want -- what you need. So instead of sitting passively and waiting for it to come to you, chase it! Pursue it and have perseverance. What ever fear you have to face, just do it. Tear down the wall that stands between you and happiness; put some elbow grease into it. What does this mean for me?

    I want to strike up a conversation with anyone and not be afraid. This means that I have to get over myself, walk up to someone, and just say hi. I want to travel. So, I need to get over my fear of planes. I want to help those in need. This means I can't be afraid to see pain in others.

    So what about yourself? I hope that this put some thoughts in your head. And I hope that we all dare to be happy. Feel free to comment, If you'd like.
