      the first movie isn't bad, but it has plot issues, and the bad guy is a cardboard cutout of a villain

      In my opinion the first movie was complete cliche rushed crap to make extra money to sell toys... However, Rainbow Rocks was surprisingly amazing :D I recommend watching that one, or both.
