Is that real? I haven't looked at the teasers and stuff like that much (I try to avoid spoilers), but it seems so... The other pictures in that link aren't as bad, but this is really awful – I thought it was a meme edit or something like that. The other images look like something out of a low-budget PS2 game, which isn't as bad, but not exactly amazing either.

But compared to something like Spike (not chad Spike, the original one), Smolder or Ember, this is a huge step down. As for what you said about the 2D style looking better, I can't help but wonder if some of the G5 designs were originally created with 2D in mind, as they look so much better that way. The Mane 5 and Misty look fine in either form, but I think the designs of Opaline and Sparky work so much better in the TYT versions. Opaline's color scheme isn't as garish as in MYM, and I think the 2D style actually makes Sparky cute instead of just weird-looking (though I'm not a big fan of him as a character). And I think some of the background ponies, like Dahlia, also stand out a lot more with their TYT designs, though the 3D ones aren't bad either.

Oh yeah, Opaline, wasn't that the alicorn? I remember the teaser or whatever where she was first shown, her colors hurt my eyes. 

Yeah, that's her. I really don't know why they went with that exact color scheme for her.

The TYT design uses a slightly darker purple, which is a huge improvement – and the lack of MYM-style shading helps too.
