  1. Ha, whaddya know, I kinda called it.  I said right from the start that Rockhoof would be a great source of oral history, his first class was clearly going great, with his storytelling evidently enrapturing the students (his smashing up the classroom aside) and it turns out telling yarns to other ponies truly is his new calling after all (while also helping ponies remember and preserve their history, culture, and where they came from).  Awesome episode, if I do say so myself, and a pretty cool lesson to boot about the pricelessness of history, memory, and passing it on to others to help us understand how we got to where we are and where we came from.  This public historian, for one, VERY much appreciates that. :muffins:

P.S. For those pointing it out, yes there is also definitely a lesson here for suicide-prevention as well, which I have to commend the writers here for for handling so well.

P.P.S. Yona is officially best yak and is, frankly, just amazing overall.  I mean she is just such a fun ball of energy and I love every second of screen time that we get of her. :ticking:

  2. As someone who's studied public history, museum studies, and anthropology, I can VERY much relate to that poor mare's issues at the start of this episode.  I mean, yeah I feel bad for Rockhoof, but that'd be a nightmare for any anthropologist ^_^ (though the oral history opportunity would be priceless :ticking:).

  3. Hey everypony, glad to be one of our readers.  Just had my first session tonight, and it was quite a lot of fun if I do say so myself.  I hope everypony else had as much fun listening as I did reading.  Down the road I plan on reading some much longer fics (in multiple installments, of course), and I'm very much looking forward to that, but for now I'm happy to say that I'm having a lot of fun already and this was definitely worth signing onto.  Let's make our brand new, sparkling library an awesome place to be! :muffins:

  4. MINIONS OF THE MUFFIN, LEND ME YOUR EARS!!!

Our fair Derpy Hooves faces a most daunting match indeed this day.  She of the muffin, the heroic Daring Do, and the hippest of the hip, Vinyl Scratch, are in a pitched battle with the hordes of Beardy McBeard Wizard, the pony who became Equine Venom, and of course, SPARKLE BUTT!!!  The votes are tight indeed, but our brave and true mailmare and her colleagues are holding their own.  However, they cannot advance without your assistance.

LEND HER YOUR AID, I SAY!!!  PLEDGE TO THE PRINCESS OF THE MUFFINS AND FOLLOW HER LEAD TO VICTORY!!!  ONWARD MUFFIN BRIGADE!!! :muffins: :muffins: :muffins:

What about THAT particular episode made you hate it so much, more so than the other stinkers?

The two key factors were (1) unlike my previously least liked episode, “MMMystery on the Friendship Express,” “Hard To Say Anything” had a major plot change in it that was a GOOD one mind you (i.e. Big Mac getting in a relationship), it was just handled very poorly, and (2) the characterization was so bad that new and old characters alike came off as painfully dumb, and some exhibited what could be described as sexual harassment or even attempted assault.  Yeah it’s a kids show, but that is REALLY not how you handle a kids episode of how to get in a romantic relationship.

  6. Well it’s kind of a subjective question.  The early seasons have this raw freshness to them where the energy levels are just through the roof and you can tell the creators were still finding their footing and getting comfortable giving the show an identity.

The later seasons are more sure of their identity and, as a result, more comfortable addressing some very complex subjects.  The new additions they’ve made to the show in these seasons tend to last and broaden the size and scope of the show and its setting.  But at the same time, while the show is more polished these days, and that polish is very much appreciated, it is apparent in everything, from the show’s animation, music, even humor and character traits.  Its presence means that certain elements of the show feel more calculated and less raw than they used to, and there’s definitely something lost in the absence of that rawness.  I would personally argue that, aside from some rare gems, the music has even started sounding redundant, especially in Season 8, but it’s still very good all the same.

So all in all, I’d say that there are many things that you do get in the early seasons that you don’t get in the newer ones, and vice versa.  They’re all worth appreciating for their own reasons, and as for me, I’ve loved every minute of the ride so far (aside from “Hard To Say Anything,” that episode can burn in Hell :baconmane:).

Can't you people do random draws?

I mean basically what’s winning right now is Octavia with a horn, and... yeah, not like we have any shortage of art of her. :bea:

  8. Aw shucks, none of my selected categories are winning.  Come on people, who doesn’t want to see a sports fan/ sports playing crazy/drunk bat pony/ vampire pony/ spider pony?!!!!???! I mean really now. :mlp_pout:

Welcome back, old padre.  Man, with all of the old gang getting back together, we seriously need to bait - *ahem* I mean, invite DashForever back to hop back on the forum bandwagon sometime soon.  But anyways, I'll take whatever old friends I can get, and it sure is nice seeing an old face around here once more.  Come then, Lord of Chaos, join me on my dramatic exit!  We're off!

  10. This is some damn impressive work.  I say this without knowing whether or not you do commissions already (or even sell any art pieces), but if you don't yet, you should seriously consider doing so.  I'm not aware of that many sculpture makers in the brony artist community, so there's definitely a bit of an untapped market there.  Of course, if it's purely for your own personal pleasure as well, that's just as great, just offering my two bits.

EEEEEE-ing intensifies!  I am so excited about this latest addition to MLP Forums and can't wait to see what comes of it!  Hopefully we get some awesome fic readings in here and more folks interested in MLP fanfiction in general.  Have fun, everypony, and get to reading, writing, and recording!!! :muffins:  I'm off!!! *cue dramatic exit*

  12. Not looking to apply myself, but keep me apprised as to who is looking into it.  Poniverse PR would be happy to be connected with Event Coordinator activities since it will allow us to more easily stay on top of special events on MLP Forums and throughout Poniverse as a whole, thereby making it easier for us to promote them as well.

  13. Very nice to see little events and activities like this being boosted on here again, looking forward to 'em!  Let me know how you'd like PR to boost them if need be. :rarity:

  14. Those are some pretty nifty ideas, @Jeric, thanks!  I'm sure a lot of this will be commission work, namely since we don't exactly have room to store a lot of premade stuff to sell, but that just means she'll be super flexible on the customization end of things.  Trickiest part will probably be determining prices based on the order, but Juli's so familiar with the industry and what reasonable rates are for so many items sold in it that I'm not too worried.

Since the sewing machine is gonna be the main tool, I'm thinking of something centered around embroidery. Maybe patches, clips. Maybe tablecloths or handkerchiefs that are personalized. Perhaps pocket fans so the attendees can stay cool during the hot months in outdoor weddings?

Sorry if my brainstorming ideas sound cheap.

Nah you're good man, since it's gonna start as an out-of-home business smaller items will probably make up a lot of what she's making.  Juli's great at crafting all kinds of things and has worked in the wedding industry for years, so I'm sure she's familiar with a lot of what you're suggesting.

Smaller? :ooh: I can probably think of something for that...

Since your sewing machine seems to be the main tool, how about certain small decorations like these~?

    b24cdbc8617420b4c4ba79eadec3a9a1.jpg

These can probably be pasted in various areas around the wedding area, such as the chairs, out-of-the-way areas of the tables, etc..

Again, though; I'm full of cruddy ideas, so take this with a grain of salt. :muffins:

Nah, you've been great so far!  Thanks for the suggestions and please share this thread with anyone you can think of who might want to respond as well! :fluttershy:

You want me to be completely honest? Chairs. I'm not sure about the other folks here, but every single wedding I've been to has those metal folding chairs. Sure, they work... but they're not very aesthetically pleasing. :please: They just stick out too much among the high-end clothing, flowers, and scenery. I think specially made chairs would make a pretty good product for a business like this. Admittedly, this could be pretty tough to handle, considering that they usually need to be bought in batches; you can't just buy one chair, after all~! ^_^ Cushions would probably be a lot more manageable.

If you're talking more about singular items, though, then I think specially made banners would be quite nice. Sure, they aren't the most practical thing I can think of, but having one personally made by someone else can make it a bit more personal. :ooh: Whatever they look like is up to you, though.

Please note that this is coming from a soon-to-be 16 year old who was no plans of getting married, though; take my suggestions with a grain of salt. :muffins: If you had something else in mind,  just let me know; I might be able to come up with something better.

Definitely some good suggestions here, but keep in mind that this is probably going to start as a SUPER small business working out of our 3-bedroom apartment, and Juli's best work tool at the moment for this job specifically is a $2000 sewing machine.  We probably don't have the capital to handle some of those larger items (aside from maybe the banner), but what kind of smaller ones can you think of?
