I used a badge maker once, it was the most fun I've had with a non-electronic machine/device/system.  

Also, that's a really nice badge!  

I cheated a bit and printed the cutie mark from the file I use for my avatars - but otherwise, entirely mechanical (and good fun)

build quality seems decent - the metal base is two part, so the edges of the image are wrapped under and clamped between the parts.

helped that my cutie mark is already circular
