So I’ve made it a bit into season six in my journey of rewatching all the seasons again before watching 8-9 for the first time.
Got to “Newbie Dash” that I know everyone seems to dislike, but I have to say I liked it just as much the second time as the first.
That said, it’s not like I’m hard to please at all. And you know. I think that’s my favorite thing about me. That I’m easy to please. I just don’t like going into something and thinking too hard about it. It’s okay if yall do, but it’s just not how I am.
And you know there is a deeper reason I love FiM so much that I wanna share that I haven’t shared before.SpoilerIt’s actually always been impossible for me to speak much bad about the show. It came to me at just the right time in my life. I had just gotten out of an abusive friendship that once caused me to impulsively attempt suicide which failed by a stroke of luck, and somehow graduated high school when I thought I wouldn’t, and had made a plan to die the summer of 2011 after failing.
Yet even though I passed, I heavily considered just going through with the plan anyway since I still had nothing to look forward to.
Then I saw Winter Wrap Up. The moment I saw Dashie pop up, start to sing, I was sold and just had to go watch the show cause it was already too cute to me.
Was the best decision I ever made. I had something to look forward to, and the ponies really cheered me up.
I’m not as open or as expressive about how I feel about the ponies as my friend, @TomDaBombMLP is, but the feelings I have for them in my mind are similar.
And you know I’ve actually run into a bit of a problem as I near completing watching where I left off. I’m actually kinda afraid to watch the last two seasons, and not sure I want to.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m in a much much better spot today than I was then, but there’s something about the feeling of it ending, and not having anymore shows to look forward to that scares me.
And this community has been great to me, too. Y’all are all amazing.
And now I say goodnight. See y’all tomorrow.

@CypherHoof 🐎 I actually hated Rainbow Dash at the start. My abusive friend was arrogant as well and RD just reminded me of her. Especially after “May the Best Pet Win”. I didnt exactly like how she treated the animals.
But then Sleepless in Ponyville happened and I loved Dash after that.

I think best pet is one of the learning moments for dashie, but I also like how she eventually chooses the loyal and determined pet instead of the flashy and talented candidates - although it occurs to me now that tank is more like AJ, while the other candidates are much like Dashie herself.
By the time of Tanks for the Memories, Dashie is a little TOO attached to Tank, although they may have overplayed that in order to make the episode work (it is of course more an allegory for grief and loss, rather than a straight story about missing a friend)
Her relationship with Scoots is of course one of the pillars of that young filly's life - although I often think its uncomfortably like they bond on the fact that Scoots worships Dashie and Dashie worships Dashie too.
I can't imagine Dashie being deliberately abusive, but I CAN see her taking her competitiveness too far - as we see in several episodes with AJ (such as the running of the leaves) - and stepping over a line. Despite being the literal Element of Loyalty, she repeatedly fails to learn that loyalty means putting someone else's needs over your own desires from time to time.
